Hello all! Long post warning..

First off, shout out to Dan for answering questions about the tactical for me for the past month as I set my bike up. He truly couldn't have been more prompt or helpful through the whole process. Amazing!

I finally took my first ride today, and couldn't be more excited. I have a few random questions/comments that I was going to text Dan, but I figured there'd be interest for others as well on these considering the specificity:

-when I put the bike in the case, the derailleur is scary close to the zipper of the bag. My case didn't come with a derailleur cage, and even with the straps tight, I'm afraid the rear derailleur is going to take some weight of the bike. Any thoughts?

-is there a proper orientation to fit the rear and front wheels in the case? I couldn't figure a difference between my 2 wheels.

-i have a small, flat, black trapezoid shaped piece with two holes. What is this for?

-how do replacement pads work? I'd like to swap the forearm pads out

-I tried to find a way to arrange my spacers so that the di2 cable cutouts ran on the inside of the bars, rather than facing out. I tried a million orientations and only seem to be able to make them face outward on one, inward on the other.

-I want to move my extensions back one hole. I'd love a diagram of the di2 wiring so I could rewire this quickly from the extensions. I haven't read up on it yet, but I would hope it's as simple as disconnecting from the end of the shifters, fixing the cable length.

Some things worth noting from set up

-you gotta push in the di2 connector a bit harder than I had realized. I emailed Dan that I was having connection issues, when I simply wasnt pressing it in enough. I still feel dumb about this.

-when you buy the bike, go out and grab a long 9mm Allen wrench for the rear storage. Only way to get it on and off.

The battery inside the seat tube fell down the shaft on me. I set a piece of tape as a "catch" about 4 inches down so it won't fall down anymore.

I guess my only bit of set up criticism is that my bike came with the oversized pulley unassembled. I tried doing it myself, but didn't have the proper equipment or knowledge to swap the derailleur cage. I ended up taking it to a mechanic which was fine, but I was hoping the bike would have been assembled to the point where I could have thrown the chain on and rode away.

So stoked to put some miles on this thing! Thanks for reading.

The rear mech is held on with a 5 mm bolt. I have been taking it off for travel. TSA is very rough and will open the case. If they don't tighten up the straps that hold the bike - you can get rear mech damage. Same for the BB cover.

The small black alloy piec is to take the space in the frame for the front mech hanger so the void is filled if you decide to go 1X.

There are a number of pads that are direct bolt on's if you want different elbow pads. Profile Design FC35 aluminum or carbon as well as 51 Speed Shop cups.

The spacers have slits in the sides to make adding and removing faster. If all the slits are on one side - the wires can work itself out so they are flapping in the wind. They are made to so that the slit length is less than 20 mm. Side to side

The Ultegra DI-2 that is installed on your bike unplug at the extension shifter's. Just turn the switches clockwise and the will come loose, unplug, tap out the rear extension end plug and move the bars where ever you want them - then reverse the process.

The batter came with a small black alloy piece that has a 2.5 mm screw in it. The seat post has a center stiffener that has a small hole in it. Just unscrew the alloy piece and run the screw through the hole in the seat tube and the battery will hang down - secure - in the bike.

Enjoy the ride.

My LBS guy took the hard molded clamps for the Fc35 and dremeled out the holes for the screws for the arm bars to make it fit. It works really well.

Would you have a photo of how they were drilled?

I have done this as well. If you get the aluminum version or the carbon version they are direct bolt on's. The 51 Speed Shop cups are direct bolt on as well.

Yes they do, but you need to buy some longer screws :-)

Did you have to do any modifications to the BentoX to get it to fit? The bento rubs and moves when steering since it covers the top of the steering tube/column. I considered filing down the bento in the front. Anyone else having issues with a bento and steering?

I put 2 neoprene 1.5 in washers in the first screw. See the images here:

It’s the original Tactical’s. My bike is the 1.0 version with the old shifters :-)

Same extension tubes on the 2.0 - just single button.

How come none of the new bikes have the oversized pullies installed? Do they have decreased shifting performance like Ceramic Speed and the other over sized systems?

Thank you for your post.

It's one of those areas that gets a lot of thought ....but still leave me with questions. And, because the potential gains are so small I have been unwilling to resource to obtain the answer.

I decided to send them as a kit along with the Shimano installed pulleys. Ours are fast, built great and install just like other brands. We offer them at very competitive prices to all athletes and as a stock addition to our bike packages.

I'm not sold on large pulleys but I'm open - so instead of doing the work - I leave that up to each athlete to determine, test and decide what works for them.

I understand the benefits as well as some mitigating issues. I have done some limited testing in an effort to separate the marketing from the bottom line and have not been able to come to a conclusion. For me the potential up side for that particular item is not worth the trade-off in Shimano reliability at this time. So - I include the kit.

We do install our robust ceramic BB. The numbers are clear to me for that component. (We also give the stock Shimano PFBB with the bike as a spare)

On my personal bike I have replaced the stock Shimano pulley "wheels" with a version of our ceramic "wheels" a run them in the standard cage. I think that gives me some benefit and reduces some areas I still question.

Are your standard ceramic rear pulley wheels available for sale? The standard Shimano ones suck, but I’m not sold on oversize pulley either, but would like a decent upgrade to the stock ones as well.

The wheels have not been for sale. Maybe I will add them as an additional option.

hey everyone...

after being on the bike all winter in the garage on the trainer doing ERG mode workouts i finally did a zwift free ride and remembered the problem i had with DI2's synchro shift...

when im in synchro mode and the shifter will go from the big ring to the little ring or vice versa it seems its not going to the proper cog on the cassette, or not the cog i would want. from big ring to little ring it jumps so much i have to bump it up a few cogs to get the power back right, going from little ring to big ring the effort jumps so much i have to bump it back a few cogs to get the power back close.

is there any "DI2 for dummies" out there?

Will an X lab 300 rear water bottle fit on the seat post? I have an ISM PN Saddle, looking for rear seat hydration options.

if youre talking about a delta 300, then yes... thats what i used last season with an ISM saddle. worked like a champ. from my memory i had to get a little creative with the bottom bolt... i just sandwiched the seat post between the delta mount and put the bolt in the rear most bolt holes and tightened it down.

Do you have a photo? So you just used one bolt instead of 2?

i dont have one handy.

look at the product pic...

so the top bolt i just threaded through the seat post as in the pic. look at their product's first pic, the one with the red lettering on the seat post. you can either drill a hole through your seat post (i didnt wanna do this) or do like i did... just sandwich the seat post between the two halfs of the delta 300 mount and put the bolt through the rear most holes and tighten it down. it will be plenty secure and snug... at least from my experience.

Dan sent me a new widget to test in the wind tunnel for the Tactical bikes. Posted a spy shot on my IG. Looking forward to seeing how it performs tomorrow.

Brian has a new sample of a prototype nutrition/ Hydration system.

It test very well in computer simulations.

It will be proprietary for the Tactical if we move forward. It’s a modular system solution for Olympic, 70.3 and long course. Hopefully the tunnel numbers will match the computer numbers and the costs to produce at production levels will work out.
