Premier Tactical at Kona [ In reply to ]

I saw an article that tallied up the bikes used at Kona. There were two Premiers - any good stories from the riders?

As others have said, the hydration needs some work. Most of the BTA's I've looked at incorporate a garmin mount. I've been at a loss at where to put my garmin that is still within eye shot. The big flaw that ended up biting me in the A$$ for Chattanooga, the cap. It's not secured to anything and after visiting aid station #2, gone. Had water sloshing out after that. I'm trying to figure out how I can mount my garmin toward the front and secure the cap.

I used a hole punch in the tab on the fill cap and use a zip tie with one of these from Menards. I'm going to start including them in the kit. You can purchase 100 for $10. They have adhesive on the flat side.

Jack Toland is one of them and he's posted in a few other threads. He'll probably chime in here also.

I've got a hectic next few days, but will try and get a brief bike, if not race recap, up sometime next week. Tactical performed flawlessly. 4:44 on 246w AP.

I tried this, but in travel to IMLou my zip tie ripped through my end cap. I was putting it in my mouth through aid stations. Massive pain. Dropped it once and ended up grabbing it from a volunteer on the following lap (after sloshing water for 40 miles).

Has anyone found a bite valve that fits the standard hose?

For the price of the hydration I really don't love the hacks. Right now I have half a Velcro job to keep the hose down, a ripped cap from the bike punch zip tie job, and a Garmin mounted out front with a bunch of zip ties. All with this, I still have a bottle on the down tube because my saddle/seatpost measurements prevent a bottle from fitting (tried everything from Sonic wing to cervelo style xlab, but refuse to literally drill into the seat post). Just feels like a total hack job :(

Keep the hydration tips coming folks. Really hope someone "nails it" soon.

JFYI - the adhesive on those things sucks. They always fail in pretty short order, If that's the insurance against losing a fill cap, I suspect that there will be more than one surprised person that will lose a fill cap when this thing comes unstuck.

this bite valve fits the straw. i had one laying around and as i was cobbling parts and pieces together trying to get something together i was happy with i accidentally discovered it worked.

Maybe its the brand. I've had mine on for about six now.

To answer another question form a poster. If you are using any of the cage options on top of the main unit you can just put the straw in from and back and it will stay down between the elbow cups.

I just want to say thanks to everyone for their honest opinions and big thanks to my wife for understanding me wanting (not needing) a new bike. I pulled the trigger and now I get to anxiously wait around like a kid the night before Christmas. Props to Dan for answering my questions and being patient while I wavered on what bike to buy. Even if I’m not fast, I know I’m going to look fast on my new bike. Next stop IMAZ!

I’ll report back after I get the thing and put a few miles on her!

I’ve been happy with my PD FC35. Mount the bracket upside down so it sits lower. I moved the straw to the BACK, and changed the rubber grommets, including plugging the front one completely. That has taken care of any leaking. I use TriRig elbow cups (just got them) which are a bit oversized. That works out because it keeps the back of the FC from rubbing against the base bar. And lastly, to keep the unit from sliding forward, I looped 2 zip ties around the extensions through the holes, just to give a barrier to keep the bracket from sliding freely. The thing is solid and doesn’t leak, and it’s easy to refill.

Oh, and for the straw, I put it in the dishwasher and had each end stuck in the prongs inside the dishwasher rack, and when I took it out the heat made it a nice “U” shape. So as a result, it doesn’t stick straight up anymore.

I had the fc35 set up previously. I had it under mounted but with the amount of stack I have and angle kit, it never quite fit right. The hydration system fits nicer, just needs some work.
I’m either going to buy a small pvc pipe or cut the tube part off the fc35 garmin mount (that I never used anyway). I’ll stick that between the bars in front of the hydration system in order to mount my garmin. I’m gonna use the idea of the zip tie mount but maybe something that’s a little more robust on the cap.

Think I found my solution. The zip tie mount is glued down. The zip tie “head” is also glued to the cap. Found a good spot to put my straw too

Yes I’m still rocking a Garmin 500. If it ain’t broke...

Soya -

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I was waiting on INFOCRANK to confirm.

Yes - all the various ring combinations made by Praxis with the regular bolt pattern will fit the dual power meter crank that we are using on the XS Tactical. That will give you a very wide range to choose from.

I got 3 flats in 2 days and I'm starting to get paranoid. Has anyone been able to carry 2 co2 canisters in the rear storage? What is everyone using for a 2 bottle BTS option? I'm currently using a 1 bottle gorilla lab and happy with it, but rather change to 2 bottle holder so one said can hold spares.

If you take off your storage lid and look inside there are two plastic pieces that extend across the width. They are just part of the injection molding process. You can remove those with no effect on stability with needle nose pliers. That will give you room in the lid for an extra CO2.

I'm running two bottles behind the seat. I posted a few images on our Facebook page yesterday.

Thanks Dan. What's the brand of the 2 bottle BTS you are using? Will it work with an ISM saddle?

I just used two of the regular cages that are included in our hydration set. I think and cages will work. I have the bolt through the top holes in the cages and through the seat post opening at the back. I think your seat will be fine if you are at least 76 degree seat tube angle leaving room in the back for the bolt.

I just tilted the cages with the bottle in to get them as close to the back of the seat and still get the bottles out- then removed the bottles and tightened the bolt.

Not sure how you got the co2 to fit under the lid.

They come in a few size diameters- mine are fairly thin.

Ahh- size small. Yeah it only works on medium and large which are 20 and 40 mm deeper.

That looks like the wide CO2 so it would not fit in the larger sizes either.

That lid looked short in the image.

Ok so I mis-spoke. I just took my lid off (had to cut the RTV I use to keep everything sealed) - anyway - I put two tire levers (cut short), Air filler for CO2 and crack pipe for disk in the lid. That gave me room in the main storage for the extra CO2.

I'm using Genuine Innovations CO2 which is 20.5 mm wide.

Do you offer a code for individuals who have spent $7k on your bike and want an 88 rear wheel and a bike case? If so, that would be awesome!

BTW, love the bike! Won my first 70.3 on it a week after buying it and then qualified for world in 70.3 a week later on 10% lower NP.
