Ha! Was waiting for that. I was checking the di2 battery and it went down to the small ring.
But, you would be surprised how hilly 70.3FL is. They found the only hills in Florida and put a race there.

Notice how the bars nearly meet at the end (especially when the bars are mounted in their 'longest' position)? Does that bother anyone else? It makes shifting difficult and thumb/finger position a bit of a hassle. It's my only issue with my Tactical. Love it otherwise.

There is a small amount of play in the teardrops (basebar) for the extensions. (where the spacers intersect the bar) If you want them narrow or wider at the hand position you can adjust and then tighten the bolts.

Many athletes are turning the shift buttons up on the 1.0 shifting with thumb. That is the way I set up up the shifting and found it much better.

On the 2.0 (single button end shifters) its no longer an issue.

Dan the Premier "2.0" Tactical is at the top of my list. I am still making my way through these 27 pages.

Was there any discussion on down hill high speed aero stability? Practically in front end.

Maybe I am missing something in the new technology, what is the steer tube diameter?

My 2012 Felt B12 and Zipp 808 combo was destroyed 3 years ago. Now I am looking to get back at it after all the healing. This package is disastrous to my LBS. So hopefully I will be contacting you soon after a new fit. My last fit was a little over 3years ago so things have changed.

Jack Toland - rides a lot in the mountains in Colorado. He has posted his comments here on this thread.

With the ability to adjust the front trail you should feel very stable in any decent. Maybe Jack will chime in for first hand experience.

Thanks Dan! Found it page 16

Handling

- Tactical feels very stable at speed. Confidence inspiring for cornering and descending in the aerobars (49mph cornering in aero today).

The XS passed all the tests and is in production. 4 decal colors (blue, pink, white, red); all new molds for wheels - disc, 88 front and rear, 50 front and rear all 25 mm wide in 650c, Continental GP tires, 155 arm cranks with 52/36 chainring - InfoCrank Power Meter, ceramic Ultra-glide BB86, Shimano R8000 Ultegra DI-2, center pull brakes front and rear.

For athletes 5'6" and under this will be one sweet ride.

I don't have a firm ship date yet - but they will be included in the next bulk shipment.

We have a number of pre-orders for bikes in each size (XS - LG) for the next shipment. The only size currently in stock is size SM.

Does the seat post have to be removed to charge the battier?

Thanks

No - you do not need to remove the seat post. There are two 5 mm bolts that hold the BB cover on. Just drop those two bolts and it charges through the A Junction with the charger cord, you will see the charger as soon as you remove that cover.

Not sure where to post this but since it seems many people view this thread I just wanted to give Dan a huge shout out for the amazing customer support he's given me.

I was having trouble packing my bike in the box prior to my flight to Oceanside this last weekend (user error on my end!) and Dan walked me through it step by step. Once I got to Oceanside my Di2 wasn't working (again, user error) and Dan called me and the bike mechanic I was with to help out. Totally unexpected and very appreciated that he is that communicative and willing to help. I can't speak to others experience's with other bike brands but this was exceptional.

Seriously phenomenal customer relationship has me a customer for life.

Hey Dan,
I have a question.
I was cleaning the bike after the race and it occurred to me that I don't know how to deal with your optimized chain.
I used citrus cleaner in the park tool chain cleaning tool to get all the road grime off.
Do I need to oil it? Did I take off the wax?
What is your recommendation?

i couldn’t agree more. i was having user error issues several times. dan was on the phone calling me to get it lined out.

you don’t get that with cervelo or specialized.

Normal riding dry conditions: For regular clean up of the optimized chain you just need a dry rag, apply some pressure and turn the crank backwards. Then a small amount of clean-up on the sides of the pulley wheels. Add more lube and let dry overnight.

Once a year its a good idea to remove the chain using the quick links, do a good cleaning and then re-lube.

If you are in really sandy or muddy conditions - you should do the removal and cleaning more often.

Please don't use any oil based products. It will create a dirt and grim paste and wear out the chain.

Testing on the aero road bike is not completed.

We have been concentrating on bringing the XS Tactical to production.

The bar/stem interface on the road bike is a totally new design from anything on the market so we are doing a lot more testing than is required modifying standard knows. When I can speculate on a date I will post it.

Is the citrus cleaner bad? Dishwashing liquid?

Is there any harm in completely washing the wax off more often?

When we do the final process with heated chains and melted wax in the uttrasonic cleaner - that process does a really good job getting the wax down into all the small areas of the pins, rollers and plates. In addition there seems to be a strong bonding effect. Finished cool chains are a bit stiff until all the links are manipulated.

If you have a really clean chain and add wax lube - you may not get the same penetration and adhesion. I don't have any data to back that up - just a lot of time working with the process. A clean lubed cool chain does not seem to have the same initial stiff feel before manipulation. I'm not sure what that means.

At some point getting a chain really clean and starting over is better - I'm not sure where that point is.

Dan,

If I order the Duel Pioneer power meter will it be completely (both sides) installed when I receive the Tactical?

Thank you.

Yes - we remove the crank and send the crank out to Pioneer, they install the dual power meter and send it back to us. Then we re-instal the crank and ship the bike to you.

We do it this way because some athletes prefer to purchase the Tactical without any power meter.

so here is a mini-review of the premier after my first big race, ironman 70.3 texas.

full disclosure. im a tri noob. only done a few smaller short races up till this one, and i havnt had the best year regarding training and ability to get my fitness where i wanted it for this race. hurricane harvey flooded my area / home so training has been sorta secondary related to getting life back together after a natural disaster, but ive managed to do decent. also, my job put me working 7 days on NIGHTS 3 days before the race. so, i was swapping my body clock back to days just prior to the race.

ok, enough with the excuses. :-P

the bike leg of the race is an out and back completely flat save one causeway bridge that has to be crossed twice. i treated myself since it was my first "real" race and picked up some zipp nsw 858s from raceday rentals. as an aside these guys were super nice, super professional, super cordial and easy to work with. the tech seemed competent and prompt.

race conditions were around 55 degrees and below for the duration of the bike leg, tail wind of roughly 13mph on the trip out, trip in headwind of 13mph.

you guys can look at my pics in previous posts and see how i have my nutrition setup. i had 20 oz of water / infinit in my bta setup and 2 20 oz bottles behind the seat. i wasnt sure what to expect my time to be so i had 3 full hours of nutrition if i needed it. all this weight was up high on the bike. on my road bike (specalizied roubaix) when i carry two bottles up high behind the seat i cant stand it. bike feels very top heavy compared to bottles down on the tubes. i quit carrying water up high on that bike for that reason.

i cant say how pleasant this ride was on the tactical, bike handling and feeling wise. with a tail wind pushing me i was able to fairly easily maintain 25-26mph the entire way. bike felt planted and balanced. there were a few spots where there were crosswinds coming off the beach and i could barely tell. not once was i shoved around and felt like i was hanging on the aerobars to keep the bike straight. the thing just tracked straight.

into the headwind i was doing 18 or so with my race wattage. headwind was a heart breaker but i knew it would be. again, the bike didnt care. 100% straight and true and comfortable. i never felt like i was fighting the bike to do anything.

after emptying the front hydration bottle progressively then filling it back up i could tell the weight difference in the front end. 20oz of weight different in the front was noticeable, but hardly an issue at all.

i did have a "professional" fit done in houston tx by tag hughes. great guy to work with and seems to be at the top of the fit game from reviews ive read. i know that aided in my feeling so comfortable in the bike.

lastly, the last roughly 4 miles i stayed out of aero and sitting up. honestly my back was completely done holding me in aero and the roads back to transition get a little sketchy so i decided to just try and get comfy for a bit before the run. sitting up on the bike felt just as good as my road bike really.

this race solidified my decision to choose this bike. i couldnt be happier with it. on top of that i think there may have been one other premier bike in a sea of shivs, P5s and felts. it was nice having something a little new and different.
