While I've been lucky enough to ride a Premier Tactical (on the Velodrome to test its aero-ness against a Felt IA) I had the chance to build one the other day. Riding a bike gives you a certain sense of it, but building one gives you some details that can't be found elsewhere. I'm really blown away but the innovation, simplicity, and care that went into this machine. A bike fit client of mine wanted a Tactical, came in for a pre-fit, and we established the proper size and front end configuration.

He has always wanted a Dura Ace Di2 bike so he ordered the Premier Tactical frame set and all the Di2 parts necessary separately. I cabled the bike and built it up. It's a super bike, so there some weaving of cables to keep them all hidden from the wind, but the routing is logical and I had great time doing it.

I know most folks will be deeply satisfied with the "Ui2" that comes pre-built and ready to roll, and at a startling price so you'll never have to cable up the bike. It's just fun to know that after a detailed look at the inside that respect can be elevated.

Curious what everyone else's experiences have been with the new draft box lid? As a precaution before my ride I put a piece of electrical tape over the top/down the sides and after my ride I noticed that the lid/tape had come loose and risen up a bit. It wasn't full on only being held on by the tape but it was loose enough that I think a few more rough patches of road might have knocked it off without the tape.

I might try coming up with some sort of system using magnets on the underside of the lid just to give it a little bit more downward force.

The lid survived the absolute war zone of pavement at Santa Rosa last weekend. No Issues!

Its definitely a much better solution but I have also added a piece of clear tape on one side. The roads here in Illinois will knock your fillings out - so an additional precaution for me.

Dan,
Any idea when you’ll have ski bend extensions for sale? The extension angling inwards are my only gripe with the bike.

Thanks for your post.

With all the different preferences for shapes and all the great round bar options on the market - I decided to offer round bar extension hardware.

That hardware matches up with our cockpit and will allow internal routing of the DI2 wires just like the current extensions.

The items are in stock.

I noticed that lid does move on bumpy roads once in a while. Put some two sided carpet tape around the tongue closed the lid. Carry my flat kit in there so do not need access much (I hope)

I’m sorry but I can’t find it on the website. Do I go through you for this or can you provide a link?

Everybody - just thinking about you.

Please be safe out there on the roads. We had another local cyclist get hit by a car today. In fact, we were out on a ride Thursday near the same road and a big black truck came barreling by trying to show us how we’re not supposed to be on the road. Almost hit another car trying to show us how disgusted he was with us.

Just another thought please - when you are with family and friends this holiday please let them know that it is against the law in many areas to ride bikes on sidewalks. That we are to ride in the streets and obey laws just like everyone else. That we are “our motors” and many times we are tired. We are trying to do something pleasurable and healthy and we appreciate that motorist must take an additional 15 seconds out of their busy lives to accommodate us.

I'm just so tired of this crap - I'm beside myself.

Anyway, please be safe.

Aero Adjustment Update:
I recently had a customer that was working on the Tactical 2.0 (adjusting position aero bars) and ended up doing a lot more work than required. Please remember that the Shimano R8000 system (1 button shifting) can be unplugged at the switches on the extensions. No more threading the wires though the base bar to make position adjustments. There are also a few tricks and tips to make those extension adjustments easier so please feel free to contact us or have your fitter contact us if needed. - Dan Kennison

Thank you Ian for the comments below:

So, on 5 July, I found out via email that my Dimond was still not allowed to be used at ITU Worlds next weekend. I guess that is on me for not knowing this in advance, but it wasn't readily available information. Anyway, in a panic, I called Dan at Premier Tactical, and he went way beyond any expectation I had. Within three hours of calling him, yesterday at noon, he had a bike ready and shipped it to me at my first stop of the trip to Denmark. I received the bike today at about noon. Holy cow, that was some great customer service. He even had it set up almost dead on close to my fit after about ten minutes of talking to me.

The bike was super easy to assemble, as Dan had done almost everything already. I have done only a quick spin on it, but it feels very responsive and fast. I'm going to get some miles on it tomorrow before packing it up for the trip to Denmark to get used to the bike. Again, I can't thank Dan enough, as I had no other bike options available to me yesterday, three hours before I had to head to the airport. I'm super stoked about riding this bike during the race.

If you have ever had any doubts about the customer service from Dan at Premier Tactical, get rid of those thoughts immediately. Thank you, Dan!

Finally got around to putting the Trirog Ergo cups on my Tactical today. It is actually very easy to put them on there. You just need a drill and that’s it.

Made 1 hole in between the a couple holes that are already there. And connected the 2 holes into a ridge. Honestly, a hole smack dead center between the 2 holes would suffice. Here are a couple pics.

I am still frustrated by putting a BTA and Garmin Mount and would appreciate any solutions that you guys may have thought of. I would prefer a cage in between the arms.

I'll snap a picture for you when I get home but I'm running a regular bottle & cage using the profile design HC mounts, the max width pretty much lines up with the extension width. https://profile-design.com/.../products/hc-mount-1

For my Garmin I have a DIY plastic piece closer up to the extension ends held on with zip ties. The quarter turn mount is held onto the plastic with the rubber bands that came with the computer. I'll redo this to something more elegant when I'm feeling inspired but right now it gets the job done.

Please post a pic. I’ve been thinking something similar but would love to see what you came up with.

Here you go... again not the prettiest solution but it works. I have a small rubber band looped around the front cage that I'll put over the bottle just as a precaution. I can't get a bottle out of a chimp or gorilla cage in aero comfortably so I'd rather use the band.

The computer is just low enough to not get in the way of my hands, if I used a PVC pipe it would be too high. One down side with this is the computer can get pretty sticky from the bottle contents. I've been just using the BTA for water so hasn't been a real issue.

Thanks for that. Looks something close to what I was gonna do except I had some epoxy in my mind. I think I like the rubber bands better. I also keep the front for water.

Dan, may I make a design suggestion? The extension angles 2 times. The first bend is upwards and inwards and the second bend is upwards only with transition from ovalloid to circular form. If that second bend was upwards and outwards so that the circular portion were parallel to each other, that would solve a lot of front end issues. I made a crude outline on this pic to clarify what I mean.

Have you thought about getting the adapters to use your own extensions? Obviously personal preference but I have always angled/rotated my extensions inward which isn't possible with the design of the stock extensions so I really like how the stock extensions bend inwards at the ends.

Is there a picture of the adapter?
Do the extensions clamp on the inside of the pad or outside of the pad?
I like ski bend and I would get the adapter but I need to be to the inside because i am concerned the distance between the extensions would be very wide like it is by the pads currently.

The round extension pieces are inter- changeable so you can mount them wide or narrow.

There is a hole drilled so you can run the DI-2 wires inside as well.

If you need any help just let me know.
