Btw, anyone know what her splits were prior to the crash? I get the impression that she completed at least one lap at that point?

I know at 21.8 km she was 33 seconds ahead of the Swiss rider.

I hope King Kung stomps out some power on the way back and hits the podium. I don't think it will happen, but I'm pulling for a breakup of the impending Ineos podium.

I've already given up on that, and have slipped back to my fallback position of "anyone but Dennis." (even though he was my pick).

Yeah, WvA wasn't going to let the Ineos sweep happen.

Dumoulin almost wiped out! Dang that was close.

That tarmac on the track is really screwing with the handling of multiple riders.

I'd love to see the watts Ganna laid down. During one of the virtual races earlier this year he did 463 watts for 55 minutes. I'm guessing he pushed in the 470s.

Still a track rider. Pursuit WR holder, multiple rainbow jerseys, etc.

He is amazing. He took some KOMs earlier in the year and posted the photo of his bike and computer. 526 watts for 13 minutes and change. The power from his 4:01 pursuit was around 610 watts.

He's a freak. WvA once shows incredible range, coming in second to the guy who's a nearly a pure specialist vs. the clock.

Sad reflection on me, but I was also in the "anyone but Dennis" camp.

So, not a terrible day.

WvA is a joy to watch race in so many disciplines.

These signings......EF seems like a farm team for the teams with more dough.

Sucks that D Martinez can walk from his commitment like that. Vaughters goes out and finds these guys and then they perform and add market value and Ineos et al say here's a bunch more dough and btw, EF, what will it take to buy out his contract? Or maybe they're not even that honorable, they just poach. Maybe EF says, look we've got a deal and we're holding you to it. And said rider says, ok, fine, I'll stay and be unhappy and just suck until the contract is up.

Or maybe the deal was sweetened some other way for EF.

I think Formolo did something similar. JV raises him from a pup, then it's like, later JV. Show business.

Just speculating here. I like seeing EF do well.

Yeah. I wish it had been Uran going to Ineos. I'd have no problem seeing him get a fat paycheck to line up next to Porte as a world class GT domestique.

It hurts to see Martinez do that so young. Though I get it. Money.

Good to see Ganna take one for the home team.

WvA is going to be a terror on Sunday.

You'd have to think that the deal was sweetened considerably. D Martinez was supposed to be EF's premier rider in development. No way Ineos just walks in and scoops them up prior to the contract being up.

Remember when they paid a pretty penny from Androni for Bernal? One of EF's revenue streams is educational travel. If the company is hurting, you'd have to imagine that the team is hurting.

JV seems to have a healthy disdain for Ineos and Brailsford so it would be interesting to find out exactly what went down.

Seriously. He could solo to victory a la Strade Bianche, he won't get dropped on the climbs, and in this race there's zero chance anyone beats him in a sprint.

There is absolutely no question he's the best cyclist in the world right now.

On the flip side, EF has not had the most stable backing. Everyone gets a little hung up on loyalty, but these riders have short careers and the next time EF loses sponsorship JV isn't paying them out of his pocket. In addition to what I am sure is an immediate pay raise, it's also more likely to hold up over the life of his contract with them. I know Ineos had a sponsorship shake up last year, but they came out as still the biggest budget team in the world. EF just keeps scraping by to survive.

Not saying one side is right or wrong, but it's not as simple as loyalty. When the money runs out, the riders are hung out to dry regardless of the length of their contract. $$$, opportunity and stability all play a role.

Well put. As they say in DC, if you want loyalty, get a dog. It's just sad that EF has to scrape by what with the obscene wealth in this country. I try to get 10 or 20k for a local bike team and it's a non starter from guys that spend that on a company dinner. Bike racing in the US is a cult.

In other news, the women’s race is pretty much over. Of course, the Dutch stranglehold is impressive, but it’s slightly boring in another sense, as there’s no tension.

Also, AvV sure recovered quickly

Anyone know what happened to MTM for men's worlds TT? I swear I saw him on the rider list a week or so ago, but obviously he didn't start.
