That does seem pretty low for that speed at Columbia. Here's what I did:

1. Average watts: 330, NP 336
2. Average Speed: 25.3 mph
3. Distance: 25.2 miles
4. Rider weight: 173 lbs
5. P4, 808FC front, Renn disc rear, fast tires and tubes.
6. Foggy and rainy. Had to take it a little easy on some of the corners.

This past Sunday a 20K tt in Kankakee, Illinois:

1. Average watts: 281
2. Average Speed: 25.9 mph
3. Distance: 20K
4. Rider weight: 160 lbs
5. Scott Plasma 2 Zipp 808, Renn 575 3T Brezza bars.
6. New course and the pavement was a little rough in spots and probably should have pre-rode the course.

Kansas 5150

Average Watts: 177
NP: 199
Time: 1:11:52
Speed: 20.7 mph
Distance: 40k
Weight: 155lbs
Elev Gain: 1469 (according to pt, so probably not accurate)
Bike: 2011 Trek SC 7, Bonty Aeolus 5.0 CC's with pt and disc cover, Latex tubes w/ Attack/Force, Torpedo bottle, Giro Advantage 2
Notes: Swim was cancelled due to lightning, had a random tt start and first few miles seemed a bit sketchy with all the groups. Clearly need to work on my power.
*Don't have a pic yet of me in position but here's the bike pre-race.

This wasn't a race but part of my training this past weekend. I train with power but currently don't race with it - will be racing with power mid summer.

Low Heart Rate TT (low z2 or target IM) - 56mi

Average Watts: 221
NP: 226
Time: 2:32:57
Speed: 22.0 mph
Ave. HR - 145
Distance: 56mi
Weight: 158lbs
Elev Gain: 440ft
Bike: 2011 Felt B12, Steep setup, 32spoke rear, 28spoke front standard training wheels, no aero gear (aka reg road helmet)
Notes: Eased into this effort for the first 10 minutes. The course consists of a 6.3mi loop with a u turn at each end. Pretty uneventful but great for TT test. This is the same loop I do my FTP test on because its consistent without traffic problems. Typically a 5-10mph crosswind off the Bay.

1)354w
2)28.7mph
3)9.4mi
4)170
5)P5-6 rear 404fc front and back with butyl tubes, round water bottle on frame and seat pack
6) 357w avg while pedalling, completely misjudged the turn around and sailed 40' beyound before turning

misc, decent 12mph tail/cross on way out and head/cross on way back, only 80' elev change, semi-rough chip seal,, 58deg. since i did not have race wheels, i decided to just try and focus on power so left bottle and bag on bike. figure i lthrew 25-30w into the wind as a resultof equipment(anti-free watts) 30mph out and 28mph back with even power both ways, was a power PR on that course where the little ups and downs usually affect me, which is good to see. hopefully this mean my thyroid meds are helping out

Thunder Road TT - 6/2/13 - 16 miles (closer to 15.9 according to my PT) - Average grade 1-2% on the way out.

Average Watts: 291
Average Speed: 26.92 (per results), 26.75 (per PT)
Rider weight: 88.5kg
Setup: Cervelo P2 (no bottle holders), Flo 90 front (GP4000s), Mavic Open Pro w/disc cover (Open Corsa CX), Michelin latex tubes, LG skinsuit, Giro A2 w/visor, Pearl Izumi shoe covers.

Misc notes: Ended up much faster than I expected on fewer watts than I expected, especially on this course which should have been slower. I was targeting 305-310 for this race. There was a straight crosswind the whole time, so I think that benefited me some. I made some position tweaks recently. I raised my bars ~2cm from what was a relatively slammed position before. Switched to j-bend bars, went super narrow, and moved my pads forward about 2cm, and my saddle forward about 1cm. The end result being that my hips are more open, and from the looks of it I got a lot more aero at the same time. It's still an aggressive position, but I feel like I generate power a lot better now and I find myself not choking up on the bars as much late in the race.

Yeah, we lined up very well on several metrics!

Some interesting data from our training ride a few days before the race. On that long flat straight section on the way out when I was in front, Golden Cheetah estimates CdA of around .215, but on the way back, I was riding about 7-10m behind you and GC estimates CdA of .18 there!

Very cool. I think if I were to do that race again I would run a 23 in the back instead of a 21 with lower pressure because of that last 10-15 miles or so. Those rough roads really tore of my avg towards the end.

? why? They are 3t Aura Pros - plenty aero enough.
I have a set of pro missiles on my track pursuit bike that i might swap over after i get used to the P5, but i had the 3T auras on my Ridley Dean and i am trying to adjust slowly to the new bike - plus I have an entry in for the Brittish TT Championships and i need to be UCI legal, and i know i can get UCI with these.

part of the issue i think is the angle of the shot - Iain was really low when taking that shot - this is better -

pretty sure that power at that speed is not <0.21 CdA, I think you need about 45kph at 300w for that =~28mph, yeah no wind but also not the best crr

for ex. my tt yesterday was windy as well and between 50-52deg, I went 28.5mph on 318w which is about 0.21

my Cda estimate is from my coach who is VERY hot on aero testing - the 25 time / power quoted is not for a flat 25 - the middle 5miles was wey lumpy, hence the dip in speed - i've done a 53.20 on 300w for a 25 on a flatter course and a 21:20 (318wAP) 28.2 mph and a PB of a 20:44 at 325w - it is very course / temp / wind & road surface dependant... but as i said, my coach is very experienced in aero calcs ;)

3. 40km +/-
4. 162 lbs
5. Cervelo P4 with Stinger 9 on front and Zipp 900 disc on back.
6. Out and back course with one hill (1:45 minutes @ 3-4% grade). Two right angle turns and a turnaround. Headwind of 5-7 going out; tailwind back. Decent asphalt road surface with some mud clods left by farm tractors.
