Recently took delivery of my "new" 2013 P5 frame due to warranty issue with my 2011 P4. LBS built the bike with my P4 components and all is fine but seems to be a problem with the rear brake not releasing with the plastic cover attached.....works fine with cover removed. I'm thinking of putting spacers around the cover but wondering if anyone else had/has this problem and a better solution. Any other tips to keep brakes operating smoothly are appreciated.

I have the same problem with the stock magura brakes. I indeed mount the cover with spacers. It is a bit cumbersome to demount and mount the cover now. It is clearly a quality failure. Anyway when mounted with spacers it is ok.

I add here that I read (I think here in this thread) that Cervelo did not find any aerodisadvantage if you simply not use the cover. However I did not find that a good idea because of dirt getting into the brake. The bike looks cleaner with the cover too.

I am currently building up a P5/3 and have a few questions. Any help appreciated.

Is the rear brake cover worth fitting? Does it keep much dirt off the brake?

Any recommendations as to both be to box and behind the seat carriers for long events? Profile or Torhorns box? Are the bento box fairly drag neutral on a p5?

Given the cut-out by the frame bottle bosses is an aerobottle like the tacx fairly drag neutral?

guess it does a job, better for protecting the brake should any stones fly up.. if you have it, install it.. depends how ofter you need to adjust the breaks.. i have magura so they adjust at the lever.. very rare do i need to do anything in the rear to warrant opening the cover

I use a TriRig Omega on the rear, so no cover. I reckon it's more personal preference rather than function.

The data I've seen suggests that bentos are dependent on bars and position in gelatin to how much drag they produce. The Torhans Aero bento is useless though.

There is no drag neutral bottle for the P5. The Elite Crono is your best bet for short races.

I keep my rear brake cover off. There have been a few times where my chain has dropped and it will interfere with the cover and could possible rip or break it if you jam up the chain enough. I don't ride in particularly wet or dirty conditions (I ride in hot, dry Phoenix air) but I haven't noticed anything concerning with getting it dirty.

If it helps, some field testing has indicated that our smaller bentos (depending on cockpit set up), like the 483 series can indeed be drag neutral (or better). However, our new much larger bentos, the 915 series, have not yet been tested. In terms of usability of our packs, there is a link to a bunch of unsolicited rider reviews in the signature below.

Thanks Grill,

I have the Aduro bars with the magura brakes, but when I build it up (money currently going on trip to Albi for Gran Fondo Chrono) Ì might look at alternative stem and bar options as it appears there are faster options and think might be a few mm's out with low euro's from current stack height.

Wonder what kind of aero penalty the Elite Crono has - not big enough to slow Mr Cummings down ;) .

Cool may not bother with it, though in the UK so if I didn't ride in the rain Ì wouldn't get out much!

Hey guys, question on sizing.

I'm very close to purchasing a new P5 frame and before I pull the trigger, wanted to see what frame sizes you guys ride on. For reference, I'm 6'2", 39" inseam (long legs) and currently ride a 58" p2.

Seems like dimensions more or less pretty similar across both bikes and I've been professional fit on the P2 and really like the way it fits me.

Would you guys mind sharing height and inseam just to get a feel for p5 specific sizing. I understand that there are many other variables here, but just trying to get a general idea.

Anything appreciated! Thanks guys!

I am 6'2" and I ride a 56cm P5. My inseam however is closer to 34/35

Wouldn't go any smaller than the 58 at your size.

Hey guys,

Just got a P5-6 and was wondering if all can help with some questions I have.

1) Can I install satellite shifters on the stock 3T aerobar?

2) I understand that if I switch to the Tririg cockpit I won't be able to mount the beard and brake cover. Is this an issue with the Enve SES aerobar system or the new Profile Design Aeria Ultimate as well?

3) which disc wheels are compatible with this bike? I own a Flo disc but read that it is a very tight fit and rubs when hammering away.

Thank you.

1. Yes. You can either take apart shifters to create satellite buttons if you use the Maguras, or use any Di2 brake shifter if you use mechanical brakes.

2. Not sure, but they don't make the bike any quicker (just cosmetic).

3. I run a Stinger which at 28mm is about the widest disc on the market. Had to shave the pads a bit, but no big deal.

Hey folks, posted a similar question to the felt thread, I'm shopping for a new ride, and always feel like I am in between sizes. I am currently on a Medium Trek SC9 (gen1), with a 100/45 stem, and a couple cm of spacers under the pads. Saddle height of 73.7cm (165 cranks). My stack to top of pads is about 64cm, reach to center of pads is about 45cm. Stubby arms, I don't use a lot of vertical drop, only a little over 3 inches I think, from top of saddle to top of pads.

So I can likely make the reach of either the 54 or 56 work. I really don't like the idea of having a ton of spacers or high V mount on the bars...and I know that for example, Felt recommends going with the largest size, and their calculator actually recommends a 56 for me for their IA frames.

Anyone have a P5 with a saddle height similar to mine that they could post a pic of (and include what size the frame is)??

Thx!!

i can't speak specifically to your fit, but with the P5 (or any bike) i'd prefer to NOT be reach limited. i.e. if you hit the 54 on the edge of its reach capabilities but with 10-15mm of spacers I'd rather be on a slammed 56 in the middle of its reach.

I think I've made an error with 0's on the end, and was hoping to get some feedback. I recently tried to install a Pioneer SGY-PM68 Ultegra 6800 power meter (53x39 Standard Chain Ring, 1725 Arm Length) on my 2010 P5. I was extremely disheartened to discover that the Ultegra crank is 24mm and does not seem to fit the P5's Rotor PF-30 bracket. Is there an adapter that would solve this problem?

Also, the strain gauge seems too beefy to clear the Cervelo's chain stay on the left side. Has anyone else faced this issue? I know Pioneer is a relative newcomer on the block and I wasn't able to find much online.

TIA..

Lots of BBs available for BBRight to BSA. Rotor, CBear, BBInfinite, etc.
Of course if the crank arm doesn't clear then you'll need to get something else (quite common when they put their kit on the arms which is why you need to measure or check their fit guide first).

guys question - is it ok to run the back brake without the cover; 2 out of 3 threads corroded away so only way to attach brake cover is with duct tape - (will also try the rare earth magnets - but here worried about interference with the powermeter)

for racing - is the brake cover aero penalty high?

thoughts welcome

I believe somewhere in the midsts of the 173 pages on this thread, Damon Rinard (Cervelo engineer at the time) came on and indicated that the rear cover has ~1W saving over no cover.

So no penalty and perfectly ok to run without cover. In fact, for UCI TT events the cover is (was?) not legal.

Probably according to tests in a windtunnel. But near the ground in a windtunnel the windspeed goes to zero, according to aerodynamics.

Correct. However, the boundary layer develops slowly over the splitter plate. Maybe it's a few cm thick by the brake.
