just installed my Torpedo 100 system - and the drinking straw (placed in the front hole) can hardly fit under the dolphin tail as the cage's triangle end-piece is right there. am I doing something wrong?

The Torpedo System 100 straw takes a little more effort than the 400 but shouldn't be very hard. Are you pushing the straw under the dolphin tail or pinching it? We have found if you pinch the straw near to where it will go under the tail, it makes it easier. If that's not it, email us at info@xlab-usa.com. We may have some more options you can try.

I would like a 3 piece straw with a 45 or a 90 bend at the exit of the bottle

It may be listed in the 13pgs of responses so far, but:

What is the diameter of the straw included with the 100? Please specify OD or ID. (Pretty simple to refit the bottle if I know the tube size - hoping someone answers today while I'm in town. Would measure my own but it's back home).

Thanks for the kind comment.

What computer do you have mounted? That would then tell me the clearance you have. The Podium Chill bottle is slightly longer than your standard size bottle, so that may be the issue.

Hi candice i have the garmin 910xt. I also have another inquiry regarding the diameter of the carbon torpedo cage on my 400 system seems like its too small to fit regular size bottle. Im afraid to try and push the regular camelback podium chill bottle in it cause i
Might crack the cage . Thanks candice!

The Garmin 910xt would be fine with the Torpedo bottle, but as I said the Podium Chill is longer than standard bottles so won't fit. I went to look for some bottles, but my design manager had his way with our test bottles, so I need to find some more to test. Would be good to know the maximum standard bottle length that will fit. I am thinking 20 ounces, but length is TBD.

As far as the Torpedo Cage, the sides do flex outwards so that you can pull a bottle in and out fairly easily. A podium chill bottle with a Torpedo cage by itself (ie no computer mount in front) works just fine. In fact that bottle has thinner sides than our Aqua Shot bottle which we use in all of our testing.

Hi candice went out for a ride today, did some climbs and sprints plus tried some rough roads with the xlab 400, i can say that i love the system, no splashings, the computer mount was perfect. The straw was very easy to use even on high speeds. Plus it can easily be tuck in the dolphin tail when not in use! just have one question is it normal for the mount to shake a bit when going ove semi rough roads? Or the straps needs some more tightening? All in all im very happy with my torpedo 400 system!!!

The straps need to be as tight as you can get them. Also a helpful tip to stabilize the computer mount more is, if you haven't already, move the mounting straps forward, closer to the computer mount itself. Glad you were happy with it apart from that, but if you do the 2 fixes I mentioned you should be set!

Candice, this may have already been answered, but I can't find it. Is there any difference between the 100 and 400 as far as the mounting bracket? or are the systems the exact same with the exception of the use of carbon instead of composite material? Also, is the bottle material/design the same between the 100 and 400?
Thanks!

The 400 comes with a carbon fiber mounting plate. The 100 comes with an Aluminum plate and is also bent to maintain the high level of stiffness we require :)

As far as the bottle material/design that is the same.

Another difference is the cage; one has a carbon cage vs a nylon composite cage. The last notable difference is the colors. The 100 comes with black spacers and a clear bite valve. The 400 matches the bite valve & spacers with the color on the bottle.

took my brand-new Torpedo 100 for a ride.

overall, clever design - easy to drink through the straw with bite valve, HOWEVER

1. the bottle would jump out of place on road bumps - first rotate and then almost fall out - had to catch it literally. NEEDS a string around the straw at base to hold in place. next ride used a regular specialized bottle - and it stayed in place fine on same bumps

2. NOWAY does the straw fit under the dolphin tale with the currently supplied bottle cage - the clearance between the corner triangle of the cage and the dolphin tale is minimal and does not allow the straw to enter even if forced. however, had no problem with un-tucked straw as it's fairly distant from the face and glasses (placed in the outer hole). imho - use the screw hole instead of dolphin-tail for a garmin holder somehow.

what says ye?

I purchased the 100 series model 2 days ago. Two rides later and the nylon cage is in the bin. It's junk. Every time I hit a bump in the road the bottle would shoot forward and knock my computer forward. It had almost zero purchase on the bottle.

I have switched it out for a gorilla cage I had lying around.

Guess it proves you get what you pay for. I would gladly have purchased the 400 version had my local shop had it in stock. I can't imagine what I will ever use the nylon cage for!

On a brighter note. The system itself is great. Coming from the old profile aero drink I really appreciated the straw being tucked away when not in use.

Now to find someone in Aussie who stocks the delta wing 300...

Candice: I have a Garmin 910XT with the quick release kit.
Is there enough clearance for that to fit in the computer mount in front of the bottle?

Sorry to hear that you had issues with the system. There was a very small batch of them that went out missing some hardware that would basically extend into the bottle groove preventing it from doing that, but as you bought it 2 days ago that is puzzling me. Could you let me know the name of the store you bought it at? I will also check that the systems we have going out and make sure they are assembled correctly.

If you need ay help finding the Delta 300 our distributor there is very helpful: http://www.echelonsports.com.au/contacts.php

As I mentioned with the other poster, it shouldn't have rotated like that if you had this particular hardware. Can you email our customer service and we can make sure you have all of the hardware that you need? info@xlab-usa.com

We do have tips on how to put the straw under the dolphin tail, they would have come with your system when you bought it. Although slightly harder than the 400 you should be able to squeeze it in. Again you can always email or call us and we can help.

Hey,

Yes it will work. There are 2 ways we have seen it done. Mount directly to the aerobar with the Torpedo Mini Mount Plate or the spacers included in the system. We haven't personally tested them, but the 2 customers seemed happy :)

Hi Candice

I bought the 400 but unfortunately i can't get the system to work on the new speed concept with both the bottle and computer mount working together.

The first picture in your post using the mini mount plate was how i wanted it to work - with the bottle and the computer mount being attached to both ends of the mini mount. Unfortunately the picture on your previous post isn't like my 2014 speed concept 7.5 - which is pretty much standard. If you look a picture of what my aero bars look like online (http://aerogeeks.files.wordpress.com/.../07/asset_168514.jpg), you can see on my bike the elbow pads are attached to a bar that is screwed on top of mono aerobar which i cant see in your picture. Its possible to attach the mini mount to the two center holes in the monobar with spacers only if you turn the mount around front to back, however when you do this, there isn't enough length to then attach a waterbottle cage and have enough room for the computer mount at the front with the water bottle in.

The second option of just screwing in the bottle cage is only possible by drilling another whole into the bottle cage holder so that you can use those centre screw holes.

So it seems in either way you have to drill some holes into the mini mount or water cage to get it working. Unless any other owners have found another way? I'm a bit nervous about drilling new holes but there doesn't seem like any other way.

Are there any plans to release anything bta specifically designed for the new speed concept?

Hi Stan,

Let me discuss your post internally with our design manager tomorrow and see if we have any ideas of working it or modding one.

Unfortunately no plans specifically for the speed concept just yet as we have a few other design projects we are working on :)

Stay tuned!

Hi,

So I spoke with my design manager and Trek does have a bracket that goes over the base bar. You can see it here just below the cage. If you get that you can mount the Torpedo Mini Mount on top of that and then add the computer mount to the front. We haven't officially tested this method, but looks to be the only option if you wanted the computer in front.

Candice, does X-Lab have any plans to offer a water bottle/storage container for the down tube/seat tube junction of the Cervelo NP2/NP3? Cervelo will be selling a boatload of these bikes so there should be high demand for such an accessory.

There have been multiple requests on this storage box area for us. All I can say at this point in time is that we know there is a need for it and it is on our list of product ideas.

Love the xlab setup. Works and looks great on the bike. Only complaint is my bite valve got a tear in it after about three weeks of use; probably just swap out the hose and valve with a camelback I have lying around that I don't use anymore.[/img]
