I appreciate the confidence & inspiration K!!!

Unfortunately, it was a shade over 40*F when I got home form work, and being the first Day of Spring, I had to get outside for a few

Now that I've reached 70 runs [bare minimum for a medal] I may just stop logging my runs, and watch myself slip to the bottom

Well. I made it. 100 / 97. #100 today was 11 miles. My first double digit run in 2019...a tick slower than my last 10+ in 2018...but, my legs are fried from bike and run tempo, and threshold work all week.

Now that we're near the end and l'm pretty sure l'll make 100/100 by Sunday, I'd like to share the following comments and reflections (in no particular order):
  • I have no issues with starting earlier next year
  • Yes, I'll probably do this again next year
  • Which is better, running 3+ miles every day or running 9+ miles every 3 days?
  • Why must people walk on treadmills?
  • Having this happen during ski season was challenging for me
That is all. Overall I found the challenge worth it, but would describe it as kind of a pain in the ass. I do feel my ramp up to TRI season (from a running perspective) over the next 2 months is going to be less painful than in previous years, and for that I am grateful.

Anyways, thanks Slowtwitch!

I share several of your sentiments...the challenge definitely got to be a pain, as I became way too interested in getting in those runs. I think I got a bit manic the last couple weeks, to be honest. Which was really silly and served little purpose. At least I didn't annoy my family much.

I originally figured I'd hit maybe 80 runs total, but started finding windows in my weeks, and did above-par.

But I skimped on some snowboarding, which shows a terrible ability to prioritize. I mean who picks a run over a decent boarding/skiing day? smh.

One and done for me I think, although if I pin on a number this year and crank out a really good time somehow, then I may have to reconsider. Maybe I'll actually do a tri this year while I'm at it.

Thanks for playing, everyone..enjoyed the thread and the progress people made! Fun to see the pics and hear the tales.

Dear all,

First of all, I would like to thank Dev and Slowman for putting on the Challenge. I have never attempted anything like this before. Second, thanks to everyone who participated on a regular basis, posted their runs and pictures, and to those of you who unknowingly pushed me to do more.

The end result: I ran every single day, every run outside in the wonderful winter cold, and did it 129 times.

I wish everyone a great final day of the challenge!

Ciao

P.S. Next year I will take a day off every once in a while :-)

Thanks to the organizers and congrats to all. It was pretty amazing some of the numbers people put up! I was one of the "right to the minute" folks...I will probably do 1 or 2 more today right now 113/100.

I ran a fun run the other day and even with only light speedwork during the challenge was able to put up fastest time in about 10 years. It was my first time doing the challenge will mark my calendar for next year! Thanks again

Add my thanks to all for participating and commiserating in my first foray into the ST100 in 100! I almost always focus on winter R base but the accountability and social factors were very important. Happy to exceed my goal *(stated goal was 70) ending at 82 after I go for today's run. Cool to see Rusty *(Tankboy) make it to the top 10-additionally challenging due to travel for a while there, but I'm sure lots of people had similar obstacles. I am simply in awe of those at the top. Tremendous dedication and focus. Congratulations to everyone that participated.

There was some personal slowing by me as I shifted my focus back to triathlon training during late Feb/March or I'd have certainly come close to 100. Starting earlier would help, but there will never be a way to please everyone. I'm a traditionalist so I'd vote to keep the start date. The opportunity is always there to bank some runs in the dead of winter to make up for the spring shift, if achieving a number goal is really wanted.

I am hopeful that there were fewer injuries than ever and that people have become more in tune with their bodies during this adventure. Fabulous pictures *(especially those from ultra-mistress K the counter) and great banter between everyone. A very enjoyable experience. The world we live in is quite spectacular.

Special props to Dev, who made it all the way back from lying prone on the asphalt under the big yellow bus. So great to see you back in the pool as well as get back on the bike and be able to run again.

Finisher! All 100 runs done, one per day, in 100 consecutive days (by the book). It was a good challenge and I'm happy to completed it with no injuries something a year ago I would not have thought possible as I have suffered with plantar faucitis and insertional achilleas tendonitis for the last four years. I'm anxious to see what this training brings to the table as I start to train for this race season. Congratulations to all participants! Oh yeah, I got caught up in the competitive nature of the board and joined the Big Kahuna :)

So today to finish 100/100 I did 2:02 run and it only counted as one run. Which it should anyways..

Anyways lets get a list going. Who did 1 run per day, for 100 total consecutive days, of at least 30 minutes? (Thats how many interpret the challenge before the cheat rule got in)

Day 100 coincided with my Boston capstone run. Today was 22 done as:

5 easy
6 avg 5:25
5 avg 6:20
4 avg 5:30
1 easy
1 push at 5:38

I have a couple runs that I need to adjust (warm up and cool down for a race) but ended just shy of 1,000 miles.

95 runs total, all in singles. This was my highest mileage build up and am expecting a good day in Boston, weather permitting.

I’ve enjoyed seeing all the miles everyone has been logging and the work getting done. That’s the ultimate way to get faster.

Haha. I did 100 runs. Finally. Can’t believe how neurotic I had to be. I thought this was WAY harder than the usual triathlon training. With usual training, if you don’t feel it one day, you just don’t train. But in the 100/100, you don’t feel like it, you have to do 2 tomorrow. Lmao.

I’m one and done. I think I’m more of a 60-70/100 from now on. I didn’t always enjoy running at 11pm in the bitter cold. Hahahah

Loved the challenge. Thanks to those who set this up as I wouldn't dared do something like this w/o a little accountability.

Today I hit the 100th day with 105 runs. Ironically I ran a half on this 100th day and set a new personal best.

Who plans on continuing past day 100? Will the tracker still function and tally runs?

Day 100 and 116 runs completed. This has been my first 100/100 and it was very rewarding. Definitely not easy and my speed took a real dip between runs 30 and 60 or so - however, after my body adjusted, my pace picked back up. I really have a solid base now and during the Challenge ran 1 marathon which was, while slow, fast enough to take 2nd out of 8 in my age group. Started back with swim and bike training about a month and a half to two months ago which made the challenge even more challenging. Did a Half IM last weekend and took 40 mins off my time the prior year (20 on bike, 20 on run) and finished 1st in my AG by a good margin. I attribute it to the solid run base from this challenge. Definitely will be back next year though not sure I will go for the full 100 (the Challenge drove my wife crazy). Thanks to the organizers and everyone who has been posting their inspiring stories!

27 days on
3 days off - calf niggle
21 days on
4 days off - back issue (not run related)
45 days on

Rolling 7 day average - 56.5 miles
Max 7 day total - 99.08 miles

Special shout out to ZippityDuDah for not syncing regularly the last week and giving me false hope I could crack the top 5, kept me cranking out doubles for another week :)

That was fun. Thank you Slowtwitch.com for hosting this and all of the runners who actively participated with posts, pictures, and motivation. Over 125 runners broke the 100 barrier! I was not expecting that many. We went hard this year. Also many kudos to those who met their goals that may have been less than 100 - keeping mind that not everyone's goal was to reach 100.

This challenge was exactly what I needed to jump start 2019. The physical fitness aspect has made me a better runner and cyclist. The mental aspect of running (many times per day) when I really didn't want to run also hardened me mentally.

On day 97 I set a new FTP on the bike while being 21 lbs less than my last test. I credit cardiovascular fitness gains from 100 days of running as the reason why I was able to set an FTP at a much lower weight. My limiting factor on the bike has always been cardio/HR maxing while my legs still had more to give.

On day 100 I ran 5 mountain repeats for 26.55 miles, 5,965' elevation, 4:15:08, 9:37 per mile. That was definitely a huge marathon PR for me given the elevation. (My flat marathon PR is 3:57:00 but I expect to shatter that when I run a flat one).

When I hit 200 runs with 20 days left, I decided to go for 250. My family and I immediately got hit with a nasty cold virus that lasted almost a week and a half. I decided to give up on that 250 goal by focusing on getting healthy and begin to do more meaningful long runs for race preparation. I also focused on muscle recovery by doing easy biking the days after the long runs.

My renaming 2019:

Hyner 50K - April
Flat 10K - May
Tour de Millersburg TT - August
Savageman 70 - September
Bike Everesting - Either May or October
Harrisburg Marathon - November

Here is my final nerd data dump:

I logged 1 run 18 different times...
... 2 runs 10 times.
... 3 runs 22 times.
... 4 runs 8 times.
... 5 runs 6 times.
... 6 runs 2 times.
... 7 runs 1 times.
... 8 runs 2 times.
... 9 runs 1 times.
... 10 runs 1 times.
There were 29 days where I didn't run.

Top 3 highest mileage weeks:
Week 0: 95 miles (challenge started SAT and SUN)
Week 1: 109 miles
Week 11: 94 miles

Top 3 lowest mileage weeks:
Week 2: 17
Week 5: 21
Week 12: 21

# of runs by day of the week:
27 - Monday
25 - Tuesday
18 - Wednesday
24 - Thursday
30 - Friday
53 - Saturday
43 - Sunday

Thanks and congrats to the Slowtwitch 100/100 community -- this was a lot of fun!! I finished with 80 Runs and I'm happy with that, as some carpet nails in both feet derailed my 90/100 aspirations.

* Again, I'd like to cast my vote for a Monday Nov 25th or Dec 2nd start next year, so that we can finish in early March.

Hats off to Bluestack who put in an unhuman amount of consistency and volume. And with a family in-tow to boot!! Bravo.

I ran 100 days in a row (up to 170 actually) but had one run that was 29:50ish (forgot about the 30 min rule) and one day I was sick with a stomach bug, and did a mile before bailing. I was lucky to get that mile in to keep my overall streak going. I think I only did a couple double run days and I know 2 were because I had to stop when I got a work call and then took it up later, it wasn’t a planned thing.

When I started my longer streak I was getting by with 10:30ish/mi paces. Last week I did a 6 mile run at just over an 8min/mi pace and it felt easy. The consistency with me has helped a ton. I have noticed that my recorded paces on the treadmill are a lot slower than what I run outside but I’ll take that.

I did a lot of runs on the treadmill just based on my weather, schedule and kid and I don’t hate it anymore. I don’t like it but I know I can knock out 10 miles on it if needed.

Depends on what you mean. I ran every day of the 100 days, but on some days I ran more than once. I also ran subject to the elements (no treadmill); however, some of the participants were running in much more extreme conditions than I was. It was rarely below -6 Celsius (ca. 21 Fahrenheit) here.

Hats off to those of you who braved extreme cold each and every single day (or most days).

P.S. I think being outside each day (running and sometimes biking to work) really helped strengthen my immune system. I was able to survive several nasty waves of illness at work, etc.
