Here's a video of how to go down Mohonk. Strava has me at 62.4mph that day before sitting up to go around this motorcycle. I go by Barry near the end of this video. ML and I lost KOM on this day by 1 second. I'll be on the hill again next week, looking to get it back.

When I saw how you blew by...I realized why I was 2 seconds behind you at the end. :) (Well not to mention you stomped my bike time by A LOT!)

So just out of curiosity, did anyone else lose GPS signal on the Mohonk descent? I had 2 Garmin devices on (yes, I am that nerdy and like to carry around extra weight) and they both lost GPS signal on the right turn before the awesome decreasing radius left. It messed up enough that Strava doesn't recognize that I did the segment...and damn I'd be KOM I know it! (Okay, not really, but I am heavy and was in aero the entire time)

Of all the people in the race, he picks me to film going down? Thats just wrong. Going up, maybe.....

For the rest - that video does not do justice to what Eric looked like going by me.

Don't count on the beautiful weather that they had this year. With the good year/bad year history of the race you better be ready for something like this:

Next time I'm using the rain jacket that I left in my bag last time.

Yes. First there was 6 weeks with the chiro working on my glute and on a new problem, four bulging discs in my neck. But then I still had problems because I had no strength on that side. Next I did 3 months with a PT at Pro PT in Garden City. Then things were great until I got hit with a bout of prostatitis; flat on my back for a week. Now I'm back again.

It's not easy being 64!

What a race. I popped my AZ cherry in style this year doing F1 and loving most of it. It's as promised, long and tough but also one of the most scenic courses around when the weather is good (which it was). I heeded the warnings to go easy at first and raced conservative and evenly until quad cramps shut down my style on the last lap. Probably not rocket science to avoid that though:train more, weigh less.

After the race I briefly met the famed Murphy's Law and a few others. Sucked down several awesomely cold beers and some tasty Bistro food (thanks Doug!). I will be back next year for sure, had planned to race the short course but now I've got to do F1 again and see if I can dial my last lap a little better.

I was kind of counting on shitty weather to be my wildcard. I was out riding the course in late February......yeah with ice and sand on most of the back roads. Sunday was very nearly the perfect temperature and conditions all day. Never hot, never cold and the roads were clean and dry.

It's a win-win - nicer weather makes for better après race activities, crap weather makes for better racing and epic stories.

You always remember the epic days forever.

Hope you got a stein. You deserve on just for being out there on those roads in the ice and snow of February!

Very true. My two fondest race memories were absolutely miserable at the time.

2007 Chicago Marathon (Hot)
2012 Boise 70.3 (cold)

AmZof in good weather was pretty cool. Bad weather would have would have really added to the memory.

I cannot voucher that the video was actually on AmZof course. 4 laps last year and I couldn't see 20 feet in front of me. Certainly didn't look like that!!

Maybe you rode all day in the ''rose colored glasses''. Maybe you rode the whole race under that almost clearing that I saw near the top of the Minniwaska climb in the CWD race. That picture is someone coming over the top of the Mohawk climb. It's from the race photographer's websight, weather you believe it or not.

Hi All,
I am that racer who crashed coming into T2 on the CG F1 race. Before I go any further I want to give a shoutout to Vicki Wardle from Mapso Tri as she took first female overall. Maybe I'll post some more but right now I'm limited to my phone so it's a tough go for now.

I have no recollection of how I went down. All of a sudden it was Wednesday morning in Summit. NJ. 'da fuq did I get here?... I will say this though, I did not have any sort of hypoglycemic bonk. I consumed 2 packets of Generation UCAN mix 30 min before the race and consumed a bottle of Hammer Perpetuem on the bike leg. I do weekly workouts much longer than 3 hours fed like that. Still- however it went down, *I* WENT DOWN - HARD. Prior to going down I was mentally reviewing my transition plan and looking forward to running the course now that it would be less crowded, especially on those tricky climbs. Loved that chicane through those huge rocks towards the end of the woods before going back out into the field. Great run course.

In the crash I broke my left clavicle, injured my right knee somehow and suffered a severe concussion. You should see my helmet -and those videos my wife keeps telling me she took on Monday and Tuesday. Or those earrings and tennis bracelet she says I promised her when she picked me up. In all seriousness I'm posting this from a rehab hospital in Morristown, NJ where I'm not allowed to walk the hall without an aide escorting me for at least a few more days depending on how I do in PT sessions later this week - more than 10 days post race. Talk about something that puts a whole new perspective on life in ya...

So, I know that MY race was finished lonnnngggggg before yours did and I gather I didn't stick around for the festivities. How did everybody do? The comments seem mostly positive. I wish I could have hung around to join in on the laughs post-race.

To finish, I want to thank the rescue professionals and volunteers who put me back together the best they could before sending me off to the hospital. I hope my gaffe didn't screw up that section of the course for too long. Even though I have no recollection of it, that doesn't mean I'm not horribly embarrassed by it. Maybe I'm just meant to be the model for that "Don't let this happen to you!" poster.

- Peter
