My daughter had a fever yesterday evening. Knowing the little pumpkin would be home today to ruin all my fun plans, I woke up early to swim and run. I'll try to do the bike or another run after my hubby comes home this evening. Or I could do 2 s/b/r tomorrow.
6 am Swim: 13:48. I stopped after every 5 laps to check my time. Why 5 laps? Because the pool is 20 yards. Plus, I need a total of 22 (23 for the additional just-in-case lap) and 22 is almost equally divisible by 5. So, first stop was 5 laps at 2:52. Second stop was at 5:48. Third was at 8: something. Fourth stop was at 11: something. Three more laps put me at 13:48.
It looks like 13:48 is 828 secondsĂ·8=103.5 seconds or 1:44 per 100. That sounds right to me. Twenty years ago I could swim 13:30 for 1,000. (1:21/100). In the last year, I've swam a total of maybe 10 times. So, I think I feel pretty comfortable with this time and the method of counting 5 laps and checking my time. Maybe I'll try the alphabet trick tomorrow. I ran a 5k in 29:49 after the swim. It was lovely running at 6:30 am. So nice and cool!
I'm really glad we have more folks joining us, like LauraM, Davejustdave, and jaretj. Yay!
Finally, I've been unable to upload my strava to the log. I see a Strava Integration error message. Anyone have this problem before? I may have caused this problem myself because I've changed the units in my Garmin and I've recorded with cardio and renamed the sessions as swim.
Anyway, keep up the good work, all!
CJ - Actually, you went 4*(5*40 yd) + (3*40 yd) = 800 yd + 120 yd = 920 yd, or 9.2 * 100 yd. Thus your average pace per 100 yd = 13.8 min/9.2 = 1:30 per 100 yd, so much better than you thought!!! This makes sense since you were at 2:52/200 = 1:26/100 and 5:48/400 = 1:27/100, then you just slowed a bit over the last 520 yd. Still, 1:30/100 is pretty good for swimming once a month over the last year.
Hope your daughter gets to feeling better soon!!! Is she a swimmer???
