Why I love Margarine Taylor Grifter
Why? Because she is the gift that keeps on giving.

Margarine recently tweeted:
"I’m glad I ran into you today @AOC to plan our debate about the Green New Deal. After I finish reading all 14 pages, like we agreed, I’ll schedule time for our debate."

Needless to say, the replies to her tweet were truly awesome. So much humor, and much of it priceless:

Is there an audio books version of that to help her get through it? Who will sound out the big words for her?

We live in the dumbest timeline. How dumb do you have to be, after attacking something for over one year, admit you have not even got around to reading what you attacked and it is only 14 pages?

The worst part is how few of the people that voted for her care.

You know, maybe in Borat-style speedos.

You don’t think she should have read the whole 14 pages before she attacked it for over a year? She couldn’t find time in that whole year to read 14 pages that she has spent lots of time attacking?

Not only is the Green New Deal only 14 pages, it's written in a bill writing style (not sure exactly what that's called). There is very little text on each page. Anyone else could probably get through it in under 10 minutes.

Also I'm constantly amused by the uproar the GND causes. It's not even a proposed piece of legislation, it's just a plan. Basically an extremely general idea of what future legislation could look like.

I just read it, 9 minutes. Not much of it was even objectionable and all of it is a long way from actually establishing any specific policies.

I would like to the see the debate but I think it would just be AOC saying, "that's not what it says" 100 times.

AOC may have snookered her here, both getting a confession that MTG never read it AND that 14 pages is past her abilities . . .

anyway, points scored before the debate even happens

I just read it in 5 minutes. 🏆

But I didn’t retain anything beyond the impression that it looks good.

Summary: whereas we have a lot of problems (human-driven climate change and social and economic stagnation and bad feelies which will result in financial losses), the US has a duty arising from outsized contribution to problems and outsized ability to solve them to get their shit together (by investing in clean energy, regular workers, listening & supporting vulnerable frontline people—including their participation in democracy, farmers, small businesses, yada yada yada.

I hope there’s a debate.

The issue with a debate between the 2 is that MTG won't even notice that AOC is making her look like the moron she is. And MGT's supporters will also think that Marj is kicking butts and taking no prisoners.
Insert that meme about playing chess with a pigeon. As wind said, the best thing to do is to ignore her and hopefully she will return to her trailer park and gym fuck buddies.

second, it can't be a debate when one party literally has no ideas. what's MTG even offering except a long list of grievances?

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., got into a heated exchange on Friday with an aide to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after the staff member told the lawmaker to take off his mask as he was leaving the House floor.

"I had a mask on as I stepped off the Floor," and the aide "yelled at me to take my mask off," Swalwell tweeted after a reporter for the Hill tweeted about the confrontation.

"No one should be bullied for wearing a mask. So I told the bully what I thought of his order," Swalwell tweeted after a reporter for the Hill posted about the confrontation.

Greene is a never ending train wreck

An investigation revealed that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has violated Georgia state law by filing two homestead exemptions in two different counties.

In a statement, Greene’s office told WSBTV to “mind their business”and called it a “pathetic smear”
https://www.wsbtv.com/...PBFBGLCFF5ZV44QC6XY/
Quote:
A homestead exemption is a big tax break any Georgia homeowner is entitled to for their primary residence. It is against the law to file for more than one.

But Channel 2 investigative reporter Justin Gray pulled records showing that the Greenes are getting the tax break on two different homes in two different counties.

It's because for people like MTG, Gaetz, and that loon from Colorado, politics isn't about policy and governance. Rather, it's a kind of performance art, fueled by follows, comments, likes and retweets.

Why would you blame people like MTG, Gaetz, etc? They did not create the environment that got them elected, it is not their fault. They are exploiting something that already exists.

One factor is that the GOP and the right wing media ecosystem are tied to each other very tightly. They are dependent on each other. The right wing media ecosystem requires politicians to shout about grievance. The GOP requires the right wing media to amplify their grievance. So it creates a feed back loop where each side gets rewarded for pushing the boundaries. So the GOP is rewarded for having members that excel on being on Fox News for example. This does not create politicians that excel at governing or even policy. This creates politicians that are more similar to opinion commentators. Also, they have no reason to care about governing. They are not judged on governing by right wing media, they are only judged on fanning grievance. Their entire political career is based on support of right wing media, so why would they care about governing?

Another factor is a failure of main stream media. They should care about being objective, but instead they are so scared of being called "biased" they can't be objective. The GOP has played the refs so well here, they bitch and moan about bias so much that the media is so scared of it, they allow them to get away with so much. For example, the media can't just objectively say "the GOP does not care about governing." Sure it is objectively true, but they are too scared of being called biased, they won't say the objectively true thing. This goes for things like calling out trump's lies or any of the other things the GOP does that the media just dances around. This results in the media treating the GOP equal to the DNC in every way, but that is a false dichotomy. This is important here, because it gives people like MTG or Gaetz more credibility than they deserve. They know they can act like maniacs and still be given deference by the media.

Interesting take on the media's role. the first point goes without debate from me. The second point is evolving and we are almost to the point where the "scared" is lessening and GOP whining is being called out.

So this clears up a few things. MTG doesn’t believe in evolution so that’s why she thinks masks are tools of oppression.

Wait— she does believe in science, though, because she’s certain Covid is man-made. So, why are masks tools of oppression? I don’t know. She picks & chooses her science.

I mean, this sort of nonsense would not be out of place for a third world country despot, and we’d snicker behind our hands at how backwards such thinking is, but this isn’t supposed to be the third world rather one of the pre-eminent economies of the World.

Quote:
Greene did not present any evidence but rejected the possibility that the virus was anything other than an intentionally created bioweapon. She cited her disbelief in evolution while declaring that she was opposed to gain-of-function research. She also alluded to a conspiracy theory that claims the virus was created to sell COVID-19 vaccines.
"No, I don't believe in it because I don't believe in evolution," said Greene. "I don't believe in that type of so-called 'science.' I don't believe in evolution, I believe God. And these viruses were not making people sick until they created them and weaponized these viruses... There's no need for a vaccine if the virus doesn't make the human population sick to begin with."

It really is quite stunning that this is one of the most publicly visible elected officials in the United States. Similar to the Dominion lawsuits, it is approaching time for the Department of Health to seek legal redress against these accusations.

Just had a quick Google search and I am absolutely shocked there aren’t any memes coming up for the search “marjorie greene rides a dinosaur with guns”.

She’s saying the right things regardless of her beliefs because 68% of Republicans don’t believe in evolution. And jharris wonders why people call these people stupid. What’s the Venn diagram crossover for the evolution deniers and those who believe the election was stolen and those who haven’t been vaccinated?

I heard her on the radio the other other day and thought what an idiot. But she did mention the brown shirts and kind of laughed that when AOC and others call republicans Nazis, that is o.k., but when the republicans do it to the democrats, its awful and a big deal. She, like AOC knows how to play the other side.

Let's be honest. There is nothing short of committing genocide where someone should be using Nazis as a comparison. It is offensive, hyperbole and I have yet to see a situation where the comparison is even remotely valid.

Down in the Confederacy, they've been working to keep everyone who ain't white, male, and fundamentalist "Christian" from voting since they came over and started plantin' tobaccy back in the colony days. Of course, there was that brief interruption starting in the corrupt 1960s, with that pesky Voting Rights Act. But Neil, Brett, Amy, Clarence and Co are correcting that aberration. A regular visitor to Colorado and not an expert, but from what I can tell there are the front range folks and then there are the folks on the other side of that range. In Boebert's defense, her argument as stated in the link was fiscal and lack of a CBO score. I'll give her a pass on that.

Don't lump all of us in with those folks that voted her in. It was not a vote open to statewide participation. She was District 3 which, although large in terms of land mass, is pretty sparsely populated compared to the Front Range.

They don't need to unite America, they just need the right votes in the right place to get power. This is a winning strategy for the foreseeable future.
.

I disagree. I have faith people are seeing through these acts. A moderate Republican will likely never win her district, let alone a Democrat. Other closer races aren’t in areas where the GOP can afford to turn away from the people in the middle. Their tactics of baseless fears only stoke the extremes. They turn off rational people.

You think this is going to hurt her with the voters she needs? I think this will only energize her voters.

The question is whether there are enough people who support her to give her enough votes to win. I assume that in her first election she was somewhat unknown. Anyone running against her will have plenty of ammo.

I did see where some people are challenging her eligibility based on the KKK act (IIRC) like people in NC were doing with cawthorn. If nothing else, challenging that will call attention to her actions for those who might be moderate.

That would be nice, but evidence does not support your faith. trump almost won in 2020, tactics of baseless fears work.

You have to understand that the fight wing media environment is very good at keeping damaging stories from getting in front of these voters eyeballs. They also have trained them to distrust any none right wing source. So they won't even hear anything bad about MTG and if they do, they are told that it is lies.

They don't need voters in the middle, they can instead just make sure that those in the middle are so disgusted by politics they don't vote. Which is a self reinforcing mechanism, Republicans make politics terrible, so it turns off people from even voting against Republicans. Then they just stoke their base and use anti majoritarian mechanism to retain power without popular support. Once again, getting power without popular support just causes more people to be disgusted by politics and not vote.

What ammo exactly? Like her telling to a gay man to stay out women's bathrooms? The people turned off by that were not going to be voting for her anyway. Is it the insane conspiracies? The GOP is made up of conspiracy theorists. Just look at those Ginni Thomas texts to the White House chief of staff, she is a powerful woman in conservative circles and a total loon. Not to mention Mark Meadows, who is not some random person either, but was also texting wild things. Just look at polling how many Republican voters believe his nonsense. Conspiracy nonsense is not turning away her voters.

I don't think an attempt to keep her off the ballot, or what will inevitably called "cancel culture" will dampen her support with Republicans.

The thing this tactic is not sustainable long term, many Republican strategists know this, they know these voters are dying and not being replaced. But they also see that trump almost won in 2020, they see Republicans are basically a lock to take the house, and they see a chance to take the senate going down this path. They know if they pivot to Mitt Romney, it will hurt them, because the trump voters will stay home. They now see this strategy is going to work to work for at least another decade, if they keep the trump voters totally engaged. It could last even longer with SCOTUS under their control. So while they know a cliff is coming, changing course now means no power now, but possibly power in the future. The problem is that it is not logical to give up the power now for a possibility of power later, so they will keep their foot on the gas and the car headed for the cliff. They will deal with the cliff when it comes, but that could be well over a decade from now, so why worry?

I have to give Boebert credit for a sensor of humor, replying, "They should see me in church," after being asked about her theatre groping.

As others have said, I wouldn't mind Boebert and MTG if they were really looking out for the less cultured, less affluent people in their districts and the country. But they're both ladder kickers looking out purely for themselves and the cult leader.

On Tuesday, the band honed in on a new object of ire. When they played anti-war track “Holiday,” Armstrong swapped out the lyrics to make a dig at a prominent US congress member.

“Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has the floor,” Armstrong sneered over the breakdown, before diving into the track’s bridge, a satirical pro-fascist screed that kicks off with the words, “Sieg Heil to the President Gasman.”

I am confused by this as well.

She thinks God is telling us to repent.

I think God is telling her and all of her asshole friends to stop being such giant assholes.

Both options are equally viable.

As you can see in another thread here in the Lavendar room, you get to interpret God's word however you want. Most people miraculously interpret it to say what they want to hear.

When all you do is troll, is it fair to call it “just trolling”?

Here is what Heather Cox Richardson said about it, in part:

“the extremists… tried to load the measures up with amendments prohibiting funds from being used for abortion, removing humanitarian aid for Gaza, opposing a two-state solution to the Hamas-Israel war, calling for a wall at the southern border of the U.S., defunding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and so on.

Greene was especially active in opposition to aid to Ukraine. She tried to amend the bill to direct the president to withdraw the U.S. from NATO and demanded that any members of Congress voting for aid to Ukraine be conscripted into the Ukraine army as well as have their salaries taken to offset funding. She wanted to stop funding until Ukraine “turns over all information related to Hunter Biden and Burisma,” and to require Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to resign. More curiously, she suggested amending the Ukraine bill so that funding would require “restrictions on ethnic minorities’, including Hungarians in Transcarpathia, right to use their native languages in schools are lifted.” This language echoes a very specific piece of Russian propaganda.
…
Many congress members have left Washington, D.C., since Friday was to be the first day of a planned recess. This meant the partisan majority on the floor fluctuated. Olivia Beavers of Politico reported that that instability made Freedom Caucus members nervous enough to put together a Floor Action Response Team (FART—I am not making this up) to make sure other Republicans didn’t limit the power of the extremists when they were off the floor.

The name of their response team seems likely to be their way to signal their disrespect for the entire Congress. Their fellow Republicans are returning the heat. Today Mike Turner (R-OH) referred to the extremists as the Bully Caucus on MSNBC and said, “We need to get back to professionalism, we need to get back to governing, we need to get back to legislating.” Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) told Juliegrace Brufke of Axios: "The vast majority of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives...are sick and tired of having people who...constantly blackmail the speaker of the House.”

When all you do is troll, is it fair to call it “just trolling”?

I said "just trolling" because I am hoping that she doesn't actually believe there is a space laser technology that COULD be used. It is probably a misguided hope because she really is as dumb as a stump. But maybe.

I'm beginning to think that we are much more fucked than I thought.

Wow, this is good.

Does Margarine just think that the "jewish space lasers" can vaporize migrants from space, like a death ray? That's her solution? I wonder if she will be our next vice president?

No discussion of weaponized lasers would be complete without mentioning sharks with frickin' lasers attached to their heads. Makes as much sense.

Oh, so now that it's suddenly fashionable for the far-right to be pro-Israel the Jewish space lasers are suddenly a useful thing.

This has to be such a confusing time to be a neo-NAZI.

Greene has got to just be trolling, right?

To be fair to MTG, she has long wailed about the possibility of US citizens being conscripted to fight in Ukraine.

Everyone just thought it a unhinged warning, not a rare MAGA policy objective.
