I posted this as a separate thread, and of course, got roasted. Nate/Chad, no commenting. This is for the ST folks....

Folks, got A race on 10/24 (Great Floridian, IM distance), and have had incredible success prepping for the race with TR.com (chad and nate have been incredibly helpful via offline emails, going above and beyond!!!). The actual race is rolling hills, 5500 feet of total climbing. My virtual FTP is 270.

How do you all transition from using the virtual power in your workouts to no power in the race? No HR either, I will only have cadence to measure.

Thanks for feedback.

well with not much data to go on, you'll probably just want to go on perceived effort. get a feel for what 60% or so feels like on the trainer and plan for that on race day. don't overcook it on the bike.

Hi Nate,

The instructions for the Time Crunch Low Volume plan suggest : "both the warmups & cooldowns can be extended based on time availability - extending your warmup is our recommendation if you have a little time to spare..."

How does one go about extending the warm up & cool downs? Is there a way to keep a workout from saving at the end to extend the cool down? Or, do you have to open another workout as the cool down?

Thanks for a great service!

There's no way to extend workouts for cool downs. The best thing to do is just to spin normally if you need more, or to open a free ride to spin normally. Sorry it's not more seamless :(.

Thanks Nate. I'd love the option to automatically extend a workout into a cool down. Stop pedaling to automatically save the workout, or keep pedaling to kick you into a cool down/free ride mode.

I have just noticed that the average speed reported after a TrainerRoad workout does not match the average speed on my Garmin. i.e. 26.8 km/hr on TR vs. 31.2 km/hr on Garmin. Looking into some insight into why the difference. Apologies if this has been covered before but this is a huge thread so search through.

Sounds like wheel circumference is probably off between your Garmin and TR. Check that number within the app and on your Garmin and make sure they match up.

I had adjusted the TR wheel circumference but didn't the the Garmin. It ended up being off in the opposite direction. Thanks.

Nate, I have seen the early adopter news for the E-Motion roller wireless adapter. I believe your company was helping them during testing.
I was thinking about ordering the adapter for my E-motion rollers, but would like to know if it is possible to use control by power meter option built into TR will work.

I do use this power meter option with Kickr / Quarq / TrainerRoad.
On the E-Motion rollers I would like to use PowerTap G3 / TrainerRoad

There is not much information out at the moment and no details in how it can be used.
I am not sure if you can add anything in how it can be used with TrainerRoad.

Hi. It does work today with our current production app.

It also works with our brand new Windows Beta released today :-D http://www.trainerroad.com/install/beta

Power Match isn't in the beta yet, but it's on the short list to add.

sorry if this question has been asked, but when i sync a workout to training peaks, does the TR workout show in the description of TP?

ie ride @ 180 watts for 10 min
ride @ 200 watts for 12 min
etc

No this level of detail does not populate in the Training Peaks "Description" field. I typically just copy and paste the workout details from TR into TP directly.

Example:

Zones:
SweetSpot

Description:
3x10-minute intervals @ 85% FTP with 4-minute recoveries between intervals. Cadence will vary from 20rpm below your natural cadence to 10rpm above it but will never be lower than 70rpm.

Climbing specialists should consider elevating their front wheel and time trial specialists/multisport athletes should spend tolerable periods of time in their aero position.

Goals:
Increase your ability to keep power on the pedals for longer periods of time, i.e. strength/muscular endurance; improve your ability to climb faster & longer, face stiff winds, ride faster for longer; target specific attributes you want to improve outdoors, e.g. climbing, time trialing, riding lower.

Does anyone know whether Surface Pro 3 or 4 is enough to use TR.com

also i just only recently moved to smart trainer; and what i am stillg etting used to is power adjustment. Especially in the hurt locker i would appreciate more leeway in the power; ie so it start adjusting when i move more than 10 watts away from the target

is there an option in TR to adjust that

I use it on my surface pro 3 regularly no issues - it acutally has enough horsepower to handle Zwift too.

I've fired it up without issues in a small virtual machine too - and I suspect that my 6 and a half year old laptop has enough juice for it. Trainerroad isn't exactly a graphics hog.

Nate,

It would be a cool feature to add a %FTP reading near the power output reading.

Thanks!

Nate, I thought I would check again because a beta tester for the E-Motion rollers wireless resistance controller sent me an email stating that as far as he knows it will not work with TrainerRoad yet and he has even checked the new beta to see if it is built in. I checked TrainerRoad online for supported electronic trainers and E-Motion rollers are not listed yet.

I am on the early adopter order list and would like to confirm the status of TrainerRoad working with E-Motion rollers. If it is not available or will not be available for a while I would like to cancel that order as soon as possible and wait until you do have it as approved for use within the TR app.

Much thanks

by the way, the new beta looks very nice. I was at first baffled looking for a place to enter my power meter sensor ID and use power meter option, but it picked it up in the beta and used the PM automatically.

Nate,

Is 'Power Match' your term for 'Power Meter + Electronic Trainer Interactions' as it's stated in the production app? If so, you're saying that in the beta app, I can't use my power meter to equalize my Quarq and Kickr readings with the former ruling, correct? But the app does let me connect both devices, so which is the master and which is the slave in the workout. I haven't actually done one yet in the beta app, so sorry if this is obvious, but I have connected the devices and can't find anything self explanatory on this.

Thanks...

Yes, power match is where we detect the offset of the power meter and electronic trainer and bridge the gap.

And yes, power match isn't in the current beta yet.

If you pair both right now, your Kickr will drive the resistance and we'll show the output of your power meter.

We will get the e-motion rollers working in the beta. They currently work in our production app.

I've got a task to get them working set for next week. I'd keep your order.

Thanks Nate for adding clarity. I was a bit confused as to what was going on from different sources of information. I am going to keep the order.
Before getting the Kickr I was using TR with E-Motion rollers in a non-smart connection and by being a slave to watching the laptop screen as it progressed through the intervals. Plus holding my power as near as I could to the interval targets.

Even if power meter control is not available at the moment for the roller resistance controller it is my hope that it will be close enough for longer winter sessions that will be more of an endurance level. I can use the Quarq / Kickr / TR when I need to trust the power meter to have me in the shorter higher intensity type intervals.

Gys question;

when i want to do my 'best effort'intervals, liek for example 20 mins ftp test - do i set specific power or use it as dumb trainer.

if the latter ; how to make trainer go from power - in the warmup to 'dumb' later?

If you have an electronic trainer like a Wahoo Kickr or a CompuTrainer we'll automatically switch your mode to "slope" when you hit a test interval. That means your trainer turns into a "dumb" trainer and you'll have to shift gears.

This lets you truly go all out.

Nate, is it just down to the correct technique to minimise the drop in power when shifting gears?
I've just done Centennial as part of the medium build and it involved out of the saddle efforts but maintaining FTP and the drops really make me barely achieve 50% accuracy.
I know I'm shit....I'd just like to try to be less shit.

Dont complain about the results you did n't get from the training you did n't do.

If you're in ERG mode you shouldn't be shifting at all. If you get out of the saddle for the interval, try to get out of the saddle like 10 seconds before the next interval starts. That will help the Kickr adjust to your new cadence.
