Others might learn not to leave a guy to die

what i am learning from this is to be sure and run from the scene, as there is a chance I might totally get away with it, and if I don't no big deal.

So I guess I can murder people as long as I am willing to make payments to his surviving family members?

Explain to me how the lesson he learns from going to a place where we the taxpayers have to pay for his crime is better than him paying for it by paying to make the injured man's life as good as possible and being an example to the public of how making a mistake can cost him and teach him without costing us.

Guy should lose his license, pay all court costs for both sides, pay restitution, and pay for his crime through educating the public via countless hours of community service and his money

Maybe Governor Ritter and Lance Armstrong need to get involved.

Seth,

While we all seem to somewhat agree that extended prisontime is not the answer here, it seems ridiculously unfair that his life will not be impacted by his reckless behavior. Dr Milo will have permanent damage from this accident, and the fact that Erzinger not only fled the scene, but was attempting to hide evidence of the crime should be considered culpability. He should, in fact, have to explain his actions and behavior to his employer as well as future investors. I would NEVER trust my funds to a person of such low character.

I have emailed the governor, attorney general and also sent DA Hurlburt a message on facebook. He deserves to suffer the consequences of his decisions.

I feel like the title of this thread should be changed. This is an issue for all cyclists not just those in Colorado. It's time to step up for our rights. Hit and run is not OK... Even if you're rich :-P

Rappster,

Thanks for giving attention to this. Google the drivers name. His bio states that he never leaves home without his Wallet and Blackberry. If I were a smart DA or lawyer, I'd check his texting and email history in comparison to the accident time.

The attention this is getting- I bet there will be a 180 from the DA and the wealth management team at Morgan Stanley is having a midnight gathering for damage control.

Trust me, we may be small beans, but even a small bean makes ripples. I'm working to make sure that people who are NOT small beans is aware. I have a contact who works in PWM for MorganStanley. I'm getting the bosses contact info. And I'm pursuing other channels. Beyond that, though, this has gotten a LOT more attention than just what's going on here. I think we'll see some action...

I do not doubt something will change - the fact that you and his boss have the same Alma Mater is huge. Few local stations get on this it could get bigger...if the driver is a Repub. we need to send the story to Maddow, if he is a lib we need to get it to Hannity, Rush, O'Riley, Beck and the rest of others on the right.

Erzinger allegedly veered onto the side of the road and hit Milo from behind. Milo was thrown to the pavement, while Erzinger struck a culvert and kept driving, according to court documents.

Erzinger drove all the way through Avon, the town's roundabouts, under I-70 and stopped in the Pizza Hut parking lot where he called the Mercedes auto assistance service to report damage to his vehicle, and asked that his car be towed, records show. He did not ask for law enforcement assistance, according to court records.

Sorry, but as the article states above, leaving the scene of an accident and then calling for service for your Mercedes car does not strike me as someone who has Panicked! Sounds like someone who was more concerned with his car than a human life. There is no way this should be prosecuted as a misdemeanor. Apparently in Eagle CO if you are wealthy you receive less severe punishment.

While I appreciate tribreck's comments, Badger911's comments pretty much sum it up for me. Should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Panic or not, in any other world if you leave the scene of an accident with injuries or a fatality, it's called "felony hit and run" which means jail time.. period. There's no excuse, especially with the "leaving the scene" circumstance for the DA to even be thinking about a misdemeanor charge.

Interesting what this DA does consider a felony......

http://abusivediscretion.wordpress.com/...cutor-strikes-again/

Yea, the guy charges 2 women for "cheating" at a sporting event with felonies, yet a misdemeanor for a hit and run against a cyclist whom he seriously injured. He either has his head up his ass or is taking some serious bribes.. or both.

Rappstar,

Your efforts to bring attention to this story are working! The story just showed up on the front page of Drudge, under the headline "It's good to be rich......", the link goes to the story in Vail Daily.

Not an American or in vail, but I am disgusted. I don't know what this says about the justice system in this district, but it is sad that we are talking about it.

Sure it was a mistake, but if I, do too incompetence at something, hurt a fellow human being, I should get more than a slap on the wrist. This guy is obviously rich, so hurting him financially is not a real punishment. Destroying his chance at running for Senate is starting to get close.

If I were a voter in this district, I would not want to be represented by the likes of him.

You have to friend him or LIKE his senate one but neither are working (or were when I tried). You can send him a message on FB though.
