Rob is back with Amber ( his wife ) and Sandy too, who he was a mentor with last season. It should be a fast paced start. I wouldn't be surprised if they gun for him quickly.

Maybe the title should say "whiners?"

They should make the first episode a double elimination so Rob and Sandra can both go.

I would hope so. If they don't he'll probably win again. I just can't stand the guy.

Parvati is the one that rubs me the wrong way. OK, thinking about it, Rob and Sandra do too.

I kind of want them to do a mass elimination to get on the island. Similar to what they do on the Ultimate Fighter, you have to fight your way on. At least then you might eliminate some of the complete morons that end up as nothing but filler. Or maybe they should do it EXACTLY like the Ultimate Fighter and have them beat the hell out of each other to get on the show.

Rob and Amber have had how ever long lead up time from finding out they were doing this to getting out there ( weeks/months) to make all kinds of plans, contingencies, if-then's and how they can work together even things they can do while they are on separate tribes with the people they may know from previous games. Big targets for sure. Plus it will be interesting to see what curve balls or new things Probst might throw in for this game.

Turn out the lights, the parties over. At least it wasn’t the first vote.

WTF, have these people played the game before? Sandra and Rob don’t even get a vote?

The trouble here is that if they go the same way that they did before, it was down to 5 players before people were definitively out of the game. By that time, most of us are all out of picks anyway. In the meantime, I'll note that he's technically at an advantage since he's got 18 picks remaining, while the rest of us have 17.

I'll suggest the following: if you pick a player who gets voted out, you're in the game until that player loses the next available return challenge. In other words, Amber has to win the return challenge that will likely take place at the merge.

Rob and Sandra definitely showed their skill at this game. Both of them were in the mix for early conversations on who gets voted out, and they both were able to shut it down very quickly and paint a target on someone else's back. Rob's move to confront Danni putting out his name and to shake out the info from Ben was especially clever. He realized that at the early stage people don't yet have solidified alliances yet and so was able to exploit the fact that she wouldn't have wanted Rob gunning for her so early in order to defuse the situation. Its a move that probably wouldn't have worked after a few more tribals once everyone got a feel for whom they could trust.

This looks to be a good season. We'll see how the fire tokens work out, but it seems like they're primed to add a layer of strategy.

too late to get in? I have't watched survivor since probably S3, but follow a couple of poker players who have either been on Survivor or Big Brother and somewhat interested in this season. FWIW, I would have picked Adam or Tyson in week 1. No way I would have picked Amber or Rob as they would have been my #1 and 2 to get voted off.

We have let people miss a week by picking two the next week. I see no problem with that here. It isn't like we have anything riding on this.

And for Exile didn't we have them keep picking until their person is out? Not sure what to do when they end up with multiple people on Exile. We need Rob Manfred to step in and tell us what to do.

I think that makes sense to go with your suggestion. If they throw another curveball in how they do exile we can reconsider. For now I would be willing to go along with this.

Holy guacamole... I thought my goose was cooked. I knew I would have to be a little more risky in choice selection this game but it was a downward spiral after they lost the immunity challenge and then how things paned out. I thought for sure I made a grave mistake.

Yeah, it was a close one for Parvati. I think it was a missed opportunity for the tribe. The combination of Rob and Parv is looking to be pretty powerful.

I think its pretty obvious that the game has moved on since both Rob and Parvati won their respective games. Rob won by controlling start to finish (which now gets you voted out quickly and really only worked since he was the ringer vs a bunch of new players), while Parvati partly won using Russell as a shield (Juries are now much less spiteful and are better at recognizing active gameplay).

Still, they're making all very smart moves. That dare to show your bags to see if idols exist was bold.

Yeah, I thought my goose was cooked with the way the episode started after they lost the immunity challenge. This has been a much more difficult season for me to make my pick decisions but the last couple of games my safe pick strategy and luck had me run out of picks before I was last man/woman standing. This is also the earliest I can remember having one of my picks voted off. ( Ethan ). I have some thinking to do about my next pick.

Thought I was done too...but squeaked by. No picks voted off yet...always my issue.

There were a lot of us trying to sneak in Rob and Parvati the last 2 weeks. I would have thought Ethan was a pretty safe pick last week. If you have the numbers I don't get switching off Parvati, and as others have said, I REALLY don't get telling Rob about it.

The switch to Ethan was to accomplish a few things:
1 - it teaches Adam a lesson that he shouldn't go running his mouth
2 - it prevents any idol play now that the target is known
3 - it keeps both Rob and Parvati as shields for future votes (which is what I think Adam is trying to do but obviously quite poorly)

The flip side to #3 is that it's clear that a tribe swap will happen. Maybe not soon, but it will happen before the merge. And with enough pre-existing relationships and "known strategies" you can bet that the votes won't necessarily fall on tribal lines

Our season may come down to who returns from exile. By my count 3 players chose Sandra this week.

Yeah, I didnt get that trade. Sandra made a comment to Denise in passing not to put her name down, but she knows no "deal" is enforceable. Great move.

I was sweating there for awhile as Tony was my pick.

On the other tribe, why didn't Nick and Yul speak up at tribal and say F you Wendell and join with the girls to vote him out? Wendell was openly negotiating a breach of their alliance!

I think the main reason they didn't was because then it would have been 2 v 2 (girls vs boys) and so they would rather hold onto the advantage (effectively 3-1 now). But they won't have been too happy with Wendell, and won't feel bad blindsiding him.

As for Sandra, it was a pretty dumb move without at least ensuring all 4 votes weren't on Denise. Denise played the idol for Jeremy b/c she couldn't imagine Sandra would be so dumb as to make that move without having votes on Jeremy too. Sandra herself should have voted for Tony or Kim, and could even have last-minute arranged with Jeremy to go for one of those two. So dumb.

Yeah, even though I got knocked out, I was cheering. Epic move.

I can't believe it! The only reason I took a chance on Sandra was she had the idol. I never thought she would pull something so stupid like that. I knew the moment she made that crazy deal Denise was going to do that. I don't know how someone is going to get back from extinction island but if it is a challenge there is no way I think she would win.

I think it was last season where I picked a guy because he had an idol. He went home carrying the idol in his pocket.

It would be boring as shit to watch the full footage. But sometimes I wish we had the chance to see more of what goes on to see why some of these guys do the things that look so dumb.

I heard that too. On top of it they seemed to hint it was Sandra. My other thought ( hope ) is that maybe more than one person will be able to get back into the game. I can't recall in the season opener if it was said explicitly that it would be just one coming back from edge of extinction. As in " one person " will get back in the game vs " you will have a chance " to get back into the game. In any event I would much rather have my shot to get back in be with someone like Rob, Tyson or Natalie ( who has 4 fire tokens ) than Sandra.

We don’t yet know how many contestants will return from exile. Previous seasons it was one but it may be more this season.

My opinion is that you keep picking until exile is resolved.

Next week is another pick crap shoot. They did a good job of editing that everyone’s name is on the block.

Why did Yul get greedy and try for fire tokens? He had a solid alliance with Nick and Michelle and then got greedy. Second week that an experienced player has made a rookie mistake.

Oh and just saw that not only is it merge next week, its also a player returning from exile.

And yes, as long as your person is still on exile you keep picking. Until Exile is closed. But last year they moved everyone from exile to the Jury. So Sandra quiting just took her off the Jury. And she may have only needed to stay a day or 2 more.

I saw Amber at the start of the challenge. Don’t know what happened to her after that. My chances to return do not look good. But Probst did tease another chance to return.

Going to be a huge jury unless there is a twist coming.

Isn't this exactly how they ran it last time, and they guy who came back late (since he was hanging with the jury) won, which is why everyone bitched.

But they did the same thing at merge had one person come back, and told everyone else they were on the jury (2 had just raised their flag the day before, like Sandra). I guess being on the Jury was no big deal for Sandra.

Some of the are tied to the number of people remaining so they have to be played at certain times.

Great episode, what a tribal! The Jeremy pickers must have been pretty nervous. It would have been more of a pickle for timbasile if one of the two people he picked got voted out. Since neither did if the remaining players want to let it slide you can do Ben as week 10 and Kim week 11 or let him declare one of the two as his week 10 pick and let the other survivor go back into the pool of his remaining picks.

Sorry for the confusion guys. I remembered making the pick but couldn't find the post a few mins before the show aired and panicked. I'm still stuck with Wendell on Extinction so I suspect this is all academic anyway.

I'll take Kim as my week 10, and Ben can by my week 11.

I'm also not sure why Sarah needed to play her steal a vote advantage. If it was 5/5 and Jeremy went home, then suddenly its 4/5 and she doesn't need to steal. She steals a vote so its 3/6, and they split 4-2 against the other tribe's 3?

Better to go and split 3-3?

ETA: Apparently Tyson was just as confused as well. A quick google yields the following vote count

I was also confused, and had to watch twice. Still we didn't see the votes (and I didn't google) so seemed to me when Sophie called the pow-wow, they decided to split the vote. Unfortunately Kim didn't gamble the right way for Tyson.

It was a great tribal, and reminded me of the All-stars season.

Also interesting that for family visit, they included all family and included extinction people too...wonder who has influenced that? Also really cute outtake with Probst and Exile-ers thanking him.

I don't have a problem with timbasile's retroactive pick.
