Pussy in the Wind? Isn't that an Elton John song?

Goodbye UKINNY
Though I never raced you at all
You won the race all by yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woods
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me you rode your bike
Like a pussy in the wind
Never knowing how to bike fast
When the breeze set in
And I would liked to have raced you
But I was just a gimp
Your panties blew down long before
Your legend ever did

Obviously my favorite line is ' I was just a gimp'

You won't remember but you and I ran together last time I did this in 2013 chasing rich Burke

I was the first to go down with hypothermia

It's the most true line in the whole song. It's like Elton was singing about ME. ;-)

I'd forgotten that. Well, not the epic '13 conditions, naturally.
Ya gotta cut me some slack, I'm old and addled.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed my lame attempt at humor. Or humour, if you prefer.

Meh.

I take solace only in the fact that I didnt smack my face on a rock on my near face plant and, that in true AmZof spirit, everyone stopped to make sure I was ok.

Ah, who knows? It might have been an improvement!
Like that Simpsons episode where Moe's face gets smashed, and he turns into a movie star.

OK, maybe not.

Thx!
Would have preferred to be able to compete better for the win, but all things considered, coming home in 4th w/ yet another Big Honkin' Stein is a solid result for me these days.

And I managed to keep my streak alive by doing so - 11 AmZof starts, 11 AmZof finishes, never worse than 4th OA.
Thought it was in SERIOUS jeopardy this year.

Your humble RD for the past 12 years loves all of you. You all make the race, not me.

That's tough, being 50 and finishing 4th overall and you still don't "win" your AG. Great race, I can't even imagine doing "short course" in 9 more years.

Think it was cold yesterday? When I got up this morning it was 34. Now it's 32. I went out to walk and came back in for tights under my WU pants and a Woolie.

My glutes are killing me. Yesterday it was my calvEs.

Not quite that brisk down here, but still rather nipply out this am.

Good thing we got our pool opened yesterday!
:p

Speaking of which, my toe held up fine all day yesterday (it was my calf that kept me busy), but when the pool guys showed up yesterday, the dogs were freaking out, and when I opened the door to let them out, the larger one stepped DIRECTLY ON MY BAD TOE.
It's been killing me ever since. Sigh.

Besides that, and the calf, I feel reasonably decent today.
Pretty much the only upside of having that "restrictor plate" installed for the runs was, I couldn't go too hard, so I couldn't bury myself, so less of a hole to dig out of today.
Yay?

I actually didn't have any problems with the temperature yesterday, it was the damn wind and downed powerline (2 minute dead stop) that killed my bike.

Great meeting you and your wife yesterday. She was awesome out on course. As were you! Great job! You inspire.

The wind was special, indeed. My day was:
- slower than planned R1.
- ok bike, faster than publicly stated goal time but slower than what I thought I might be capable of, with a proper mix of WTF was I thinking staying in aero for that, and legitimate hope my bike would not get blown out from underneath me.
- R2 was all much slower than intended but I'll take neg splitting each lap. (ETA I guess I mis-read the on-site splits since posted results don't show this.)

My first overall female finish was nice, but I would have rather raced (or chased) for 2nd than defaulted to first. Damn, does that mean I have to do LC again...?

Well I love this event so will surely be back for some distance. I just gotta get better at conning, er convincing, friends to sign up.

And ditto this. Yesterday I got to pat myself on the back for wearing my cycling gloves on the run, as I tripped and went sprawling for my 2nd time at Amzof. I was also quite pleased to have missed the big rock less than 6" from my head.

There was at least 1 other Womens LC starter - our own holisticguru was back gunning for another win, but it wasn't her day and she dropped out.

90% of success is showing up, and the other 10% came from simply not stopping.
Which can be the hardest part of all.

Whoo-Hoo, congratulations on your WIN!!!!!! That is a long @ss way do go.

I just got back to Long Island and after three hours in the truck, everything hurts again. I was duck-waddling carrying our stuff into this house.

Just to complete my Shandaken weather reports: we had ice on the deck this morning!!!!!

Re discomfort, yesterday I think I left a little on the table, maybe there was a little something left in my legs. But omg the pain that settled in during the ride home... Terrible attempt at sleep and I still feel like I've been steam rolled. Guess I'd have to change my training load/strategy were I to do this one again 'cause this is certainly more discomfort than how I've felt following other races (except maybe my first IM, where I was one of the late finishers).

WHY would somebody who has a house in Shandaken EVER go back to LawnGuyland?!??!!!

Is it like a weekend parole/furlough thing? ;-)

Michelle has lived in this house for every year of her life except one. I gave up years ago that she would ever move.
