Anyone else notice the Pearl Izumi logo on the kit?

How does THAT work with newton?

I have blown up the pic like a CSI agent and I still can't see any features that are dead give aways. The area around and above the BB is odd.

If I had to make a bet right now, I would bet it's the new Orbea.

Can't tell much, but maybe someone else can better ID. When I'm trying to find things in a photo people don't want to see, I invert the colors.

What helmet is that?

I was hoping to just put the pic into my CSI database and have the bike-recognition software just spit out the 100% confirmation within seconds.

I'm thinking Orbea.

Maybe it's just me, but if you enhance the image and look at the top tube, it appears to be kind of flat and has a bit of a flare toward where the top tube and down tube meet, much like the current Ordu.

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking that it's an Orbea...

It may/probably be the new Orbea. He is wearing an Orbea helmet and on a recent trip to the Orbea HQ someone very very close to me was told that their new TT is ready and they are trying to have it ready to race prior to Kona for Crowie. They wanted it ready earlier but had some issues and also working on UCI approvals hence nothing released. But some of the Euskatel Pro team riders have trialled it apparently. The current Ordu will become their 2nd in the range with this new version their top of the line bike to go on sale by mid 2012. :)

Allegedly!

Looks like 1996 internet porn.

Imagine if it is the new Orbea, and Crowie doesn't win. That would break Cervelo's heart.

top tube looks like shiv. chainstay looks like a Cervelo R5... so maybe Orbea just copied parts off other bikes?

Yup. Looks like it'll have a bayonet-style fork.

Are you in Kona this year or are you "elsewhere?"

I don't know about the bayonet.... the fork (what's visible) looks kind of raked, like it's a standard fork. I'm still thinking Blue for some reason.

I'm "elsewhere" for the mo, but I'll be home for Kona to watch on the internet!

X2! And as another poster said, the top tube/down tube junction looks to be quite large as well.

Can someone just find him today and snap a 15 megapixel picture of the bike from all angles? Thanks.

Unless its a new Blue bike, I don't think its Blue. The bike Crowie is riding the chainstay is straight, were Blue has a bend in it.

It is not a BB 30-ish style bottom bracket (right?)

Isn't that the BB bearing cup that is visible on the non drive side, outboard of the frame.

Chain stays look like Cervelo to me.

The seat clamp looks like a P2 / P3 style double bolt clamp on the rear of the frame.
Maybe Cervelo went back to that style after the problems with the P4 clamp

The saddle clamp and shape of the seatpost look like Cervelo.

I vote Cervelo P5

(wouldn't Orbea to Blue be a bit of a lateral move speed wise?)

Marketing spin isn't going to make a Blue go as fast as a Cervelo (except maybe in their sales literature)

IF you guys guessing Cervelo are correct...then that top tube is a big departure for them, with the flat top aspect and somewhat triangular shapes. It is NOT an existing Cervelo, to be sure. Those guessing Shiv would seem have the same issue...the top tube cross section is not precisely like any current Shiv version in that the transition from top to sides is a more distinct break and the top looks more flat from side to side.

The seatstay/seatube detail seems to have a tail like the P4 and Shiv, though...which is unlike the blue...and even the Avanti, which I'd previously though was a possibility, has no tail.

The bottom bracket area is different from these bikes as well.

Nor does it have the flair-out detail of the Shiv's chainstays (to say nothing of the apparently different curve of the seatstays, but that MIGHT be optical due to the paint scheme)...again, arguing against the Shiv.

And its definitely not a current known Orbea. The angles of the tube cross sections are in their design idiom, though...so I wouldn't put it completely past this being the rumored new Orbea even though the odds are high.

It's hard to be definitive based on that small, grainy photo, but there are details which seem to disqualify it from being most of the guesses thus far of currently known bikes.

And lastly...this minor mystery is costing me far too much productivity...If this is truly (though unlikely) a completely planned marketing scheme rather than a fortunate collision of circumstances, it's bloody brilliant.

Crowie is sponsored by Shimano, they don't make BB30 cranks. The frame could be BB30, but would have an adapter installed for Shimano BB cups.

The challenge with trying to launch a new bike around an event is the UCI. No bike company in their right mind is launching a new bike without UCI approval anymore. I think Specialized learned this twice with the Transition and then the Shiv, and Cervelo with the P4. All 3 times the UCI were saying legal; wait not legal, wait we don't know....then confirming not legal.

UCI does nto govern WTC and USAT races. Hence the reson you can still ride Softrides, Zipps, etc. So unless you are only saying that companies looking to be in the Tour, the triathlon market really has minimal limitations...and definitely not the 3:1 limitations or 3 main tubes. Part of the reason Ceepo is gaining some momentum and the QR Illicito can do what they are doing. If I misunderstood what you were saying, sorry. Reading all this on my phone.
