Third 2.8km, Gomez at 3:13 pace, Frodo at 3:19. So Gomez alone out front now? Don't think there is gonna be any sprint finish!!

Tim's have it rough. We have to deal with Lassie, the kid from the Christmas Story and now transitions. We are always getting picked on.

It's not "dismissing" them, it's rooting for an insanely talented young guy, who has been CRUSHING DREAMS on the run at all the 70.3's he's done this year.
Frodo and Gomez are ridiculously talented at the Oly distance, but it was unknown if that would fully translate to 70.3.
I guess we have our answer to that one...

Watching them run up that hill was awesome. Gomez was flying compared to all others (which is incredible). Frodo looked to be suffering, imo. So did Sanders as well. These guys are on the limit for sure... exciting!

why wouldnt they 'love' some guy who has only been racing tris seriously for 4 or 5 years?? and consistently pops 1:09 runs of an increasingly improving bike?!?

I am probably one of the early Colonel FanBoy club members .going back two years now and you aint seen nothing yet!

And who is dismissing the 2008 gold and ..yadayada...??

Just be a great introductuon to the World if the Colonel can get on the podium today

The Colonel probably had to overbike it, to try to get back into striking distance. I'm sure that took a toll.

I had no idea who Lionel Sanders was until I started reading this thread.

In the Internet age..hard to believe but THATS whats amazing in all this. He is such a raw talent and to be up battling for a podium today says it all.

+1

It's clear now that he has to get more competitive in the swim. If he comes out of the water 4 mins faster (edited-sorry) it's a different race. Love to see LS would handle it if he was in sight Gomez.

I still think there are too many good runners out front for him to get on the podium after having to push so hard. I'll say he gets 5th maximum.

And I still think that's the case. Someone would have to blow up for him to go any better than that.
