There isn't any reason they shouldn't be allowed to continue. They aren't racing for Kona spots or a win. Why shouldn't they get the emotional nod to go on for their LAST Ironman together?

are you joking? there actually IS a reason -- they missed the cut-off. why not just let anyone mop or bop draft as well? they aren't racing for kona slots or a win either.

heartbreaking seeing these last swimmers being told they can't continue - i dont envy the organisers who have to break the news - just heartbreaking :o(

No, she was 14:30 behind out of T1, so is making time on the bike. She was 11 minutes down out of the water so the ITU specialist was faster through transition.

No worries, I only remember as I thought she was slow in transition.

I don't get... cut-off for what?

They are already in Kona, what else is there? Christ, Frank Farrar got a spot to Kona after not making the cut-off.

Yup, so sad. He/they are such an icon and inspiration. Tough as nails guy. Someone mentioned earlier that it would be cool to have some else take Rick Hoyt around in Kona (if anyone else COULD). I'd have trouble pushing him for marathon, but possibly. NO WAY I could bike with him behind (or swim for that matter).

Each leg has a cut-off time. Swim IIRC is 2:20.

This from Slowdef:

Faris has been averageing 300 watts throughout this ride, and has recently spiked it up to 315 at times. He's leading this pack. In the pack is Cam Brown who's keeping pace but only producing about 225 watts on average to keep pace. Luke Bell is also in this group and is up to 280 watts, on average, but just produced at 346-watt spike. Clearly, Brown has figured out a way to ride very economically. Is it his Scott Plasma? Is it a very tight position that punches a small hole in the wind? Perhaps the SRM data is one indicator of why this Kiwi runs so fast off the bike.

Seems Cam's aero position is WAY better than Faris'.

Discuss.

Al-Sultan's style looks very heavy to me. It is early in the race for him to be slugging the bike so hard.

It hurts to see Dick Hoyt miss the cut-off. I wish he had made it. They are reporting he will miss the swim cut-off.

Seeing Dick Hoyt I wonder if there may be a better vessel for Ricky to ride in that produces less drag for Dick when he swims. I wonder if Ricky may be faster in something like a carbon-fiber racing canoe that is more streamlined.

Stadler with 5:00 minutes. Incredible. He needs 10....

I noticed that much lower wattage on the power website. That is a huge power difference! It seems like faris has a pretty good position, but who knows.
