Yes, it works on people wearing normal clothes, most of the training dataset consists of normal people and not athletes/triathletes on spandex.

As far as I know, there are startup companies working on systems that are like mirrors with screens and AI analyzes your workout, although they are far from being state of the art.
I myself am a Scientist for a big tech company working on it but for applications other than sports.

Resources today are definitely already enough for reasonable accuracy for something like you mention. Just need to add UI, marketing, more functionally for users…

Ok, here's my quick ideas.

Cushion index, I need a industry standard test of sneakers cushion ability in the heel and forefoot. It needs to tell me how much cushion it provides and how many miles it lasts.
So, we need a machine to repeatedly strike the insole and measure the cushion and how long it maintains it.

Solar helmet, either to power small helmet lights or to store power in a small battery in case my phone or watch need a top up. It has to be lightweight too.

regenerative braking, more for touring or bike packing but a disc brake caliper that could also harness energy on long descents, saving your brake pads and providing a energy source.

Velcro tires, this would let me ride my mtb on smooth road tires to trails and when I get to the trail I slip on my knobby tire covers with straps that go over the rims.

I think I'd rather have slip-on slick covers if it reduced rolling-resistance or preserved knobbies of my nice MTB tires. I'm concerned that zipper MTB tires wouldn't have quite the same traction under duress when zippered. I guess it's equally likely that any slack in the tread could make for even better traction.

To be clear, you're saying that you can get a reasonably accurate assessment of the degree to which a lumbar spine is flexing during something like a squat, lunge, or deadlifting movement? Or at least a "yes-no" with regard to whether the lumbar spine is flexing?

Hi @Morelock,

I understand it's been a while since you posted, but I just joined and scrolled by your post on how you designed these aero extensions for windtunneltesting and must admit they look really nice already.
Would you be able to share the design for these so that I coud base a personal set of aero extensions of off these and have it printed in Al or Ti?

Looking forward to your reply!

Kind regards,
Thijs

Would it be interesting with

1) the possibility to ride with the pro`s in TdF/PTO open/Kona etc on Zwift?

2) A personal assistant to give you workouts based on x,y or z athletes strava profile/ research paper/study/training book, or

3) A personal assistant for non coders so they can start using AI to get 10 x faster at their job -> more time for triathlon training.

Hi Thijs,

I'm sorry the files for those extensions were lost with my old work computer. Really anyone able/with access to printing in exotic materials like AL or Ti should be able to recreate them quite easily (especially with the pictures as a guide)
or you can try messaging Wilco Kelderman and asking if he still has the files.

Maybe this exists. I'd love to see an easy-to-wear cooling shirt or jersey, that desert-dwelling folks could wear during super hot days. So rather than a monstrous vest like TdF teams use before and after hot stages, you could throw it in the freezer and wear it on a run or ride. I'd have removable gel packs on the upper back, maybe on the upper arms, as a starter.

I'd also like to see something really easy to use to build interval workouts and then be able to export them to whatever platform...TrainerRoad used to have (probably still does) a workout creator but it was really clunky to use. I liked the idea because you could drag and drop, copy and paste, easily create endless variations. But it required a separate (adobe?) program which was not very stable. I don't use TrainerRoad anymore but it would be cool to be able to export to TrainingPeaks, or intervals.icu etc...

Off hand, can you kind of do this with a camelbak type pack or front soft bottle pack? just fill them to what you think you need, freeze, stuff them in the pack and go. You can adjust the amount so it's does the job without being too heavy.

Not a coach. Not a FOP Tri/swimmer/biker/runner. Barely a MOP AGer.
But I'm learning and making progress.

You definitely can. When I lived in Vegas and had to do long runs in the summer I would freeze my camelbak bladder the night before. But I dislike running with extra gear if I can get away with it ;)

I'd like a braking system that's lighter, can be "tucked" in an aero fashion on top of the wheels (or at the bottom of the rear one), would allow for quick adjustments on the fly if rubbing (think opening system) and for a quick system release of the wheels.... oh wait....
Just kidding (but not really).

More seriously, I would definitely pay a premium for an improved torpedo-like bottle system that is still easy to refill but doesn't splash and leak everywhere and for improved large(r) aero frame bottles (all way too small, hard to get, hard to clean and all have stupid caps)

Then company can pay the person 10x less too

Love this idea. I'll add:

I'm awaiting the day that aero shocks exist.

I want a full suspension road bike with electronic wireless lockout.

I think folks have long over-estimated the energetic cost of suspension due to pedal bob, and long underestimated the energetic benefits of suspension for reducing rolling resistance and instability / vibration-related muscular fatigue and energy cost.

I harped on this a while back. I still think it would pan out as beneficial if well designed.

I also think tubeless would be easier if there were some hybrid tire liners that were like sealant trapped in an ultta thin bubble wrap, so it wouldn’t dry out and it would be much less messy to install. This layer could have a layer of loose or woven dry fiber matrix that would be activated by punctures. I bet overall it could be done lighter than the standard ~2oz road bike recommendation since you’d be able to apply it uniformly, and if well designed, inner pressures would rush sealant to the leak site like an opened ketchup packet

If install was easy, I would buy this. I would absolutely buy this if it was just part of the inner casing of every tire. What a dream.

It's probably worth talking just a little bit about what sealant is actually doing in a tubeless tire. Yes, it's there to prevent flats, but in almost all of the *fast* tires, it's also performing as a surrogate tube. The tires won't hold air without sealant. As has often been written, the rolling resistance of a tubeless tire with sealant and the same tire with a latex tube will essentially be identical because sealant in a tire acts *as* a latex tube. It's a liquid latex tube, but it's doing the same thing.
The alternative to this is to heavily butylize the sidewall of the tire, in which case - as the term suggests - you're essentially performing the air holding function with the equivalent of a butyl tire, with the concomitant hit to rolling resistance.
There are some new things coming down the pike, though. Schwalbe is beginning to use TPU as a sidewall treatment, and it seems certain that others will follow, and within a couple/few years we will see sidewall treatments that allow for fast rolling tires that don't require sealant to function as a surrogate tube. When this becomes ubiquitous (if it does) then the door will be open for something like an "activated by puncture" sealant device.

FWIW, I think the variant to this idea that would be immediately applicable and appealing is a small bag of sealant that you drop in the tire before you bead it up, and then subsequently open by squeezing through the tire until it pops, releasing the sealant into the already beaded up tire.

Is my experience of inflating tires without sealant, and thus believing that they hold air just fine without sealant, mostly an experience of impatience and haste? In that... I don't ever do this for more than a second to see if it's possible, and that it does take a few minutes or hours to leak out all the air through the tire?

If it is leaking slowly, it it leaking through the tire? I had assumed (with no knowledge) that the leaking might be happening more around the tire-rim junction, sans sealant.

Sign me up for Conti 6000 with ThermoSpeed & ActiSeal technology! I'd pay for that.

This sounds like selling single units of supplements like those little sachet's that Maurten (and every other company selling powdered nutrition) sells. I hate it. lol

Actually, it's not so bad because you only need one every so often, on the order of weeks or months. I'd probably buy this, too.

Sorry, I'm just always on fire about single use baggies and inane pricing.

Probably a combination of that plus tires that aren't as fast as they could be because they have sidewalls that are treated with butyl so that they hold air, at least to some degree.

This is much less the case now than it used to be, as manufacturers are now - more or less - playing on something approaching the same field, standards wise.

Agree on the single serve packaging thing. It's a serious bummer. That said, yup; this would be something that is used much less frequently. Should also be able to use some kind of lightweight biodegradable material as you actually *want* something that bursts easily.
