They definitely do the loyalty program. My original Quarq Cinqo kicked the bucket a couple of weeks ago. Replaced it with the spider only. I don't feel as special without my serial number "138" handwritten on the unit. ; )

From the staging site:

DZero

● Bluetooth low energy technology and ANT+ wireless data transfer
● AxCad -- no magnet
● 10K Temperature Compensation
● Battery -- CR2032, 200 hour battery life, change without tools
● OmniCal -- swap chainrings without affecting accuracy
● 2-year warranty
● IPX7 waterproof rating
● Accuracy -- within 1.5%, measuring both legs

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

I have to think they spent two years of engineering labor doing more than adding Bluetooth and a BB standard. I hope.

Edit: OK, so they did some mechanical packaging to make it an easily swappable spider. OK. I guess that's nice. But doesn't given existing Quarq owners much incentive to upgrade.

It looks like you lose 100 hours of riding time (although on the specs page of the DZero it says 300 hours so this may be a typo). Also the Specs page doesn't list BB386 so maybe it just isn't fully updated.

I'm guessing this is due to the Bluetooth addition. Might be one of those, if using Bluetooth then 200 hours and Ant+ only 300. I'd think they would have it programmed to transmit Ant+ and Bluetooth upon waking up and if no Bluetooth device is paired/connected it will auto shut-off (at least I hope they'd put that feature in). That way it will sap less battery power. But that is speculation on my part but if I was involved with the development I'd try to get that feature put in.

When Quarq is launching on Aug 31, I'm betting he's got an embargo until that date as well.

Suffer Well.

Aren't the current Force 22 and Rival 22 cranksets already compatible with Quarq (as well as P2M) power meter spiders? So really, this whole "Quarq Prime" isn't really anything ground breaking.

From a marketing point of view though, it does seem pretty smart in that the crank arms now say Quarq on it...and a bike snob (most of us) may be more inclined to buy a Quarq instead of another brand PM just to make it match.

Hmmm, so it looks as though this new system is going to take the place of their entire lineup?

BLE
fits BB386 (which means I can finally consider those frames)
looks like they're doing an OE crank so bikes that have one can be easily upgraded to power

no details on whether dzero means anything for calibration

"The DZero Power Meter Spider pairs with Quarq Prime"

What's that??

I can't say, but I was told it would be revealed (or perhaps just shown?) here:

What is DZero?

The team at Quarq are decidedly science geeks. The
Spearfish, S.D., company was named after the quark,
the elementary particle that has never been observed or
isolated. The DZero detector involves an intense search
for subatomic clues that could reveal the building blocks
of the universe. It’s one of the world’s most sensitive and
accurate devices β€” just like Quarq Power Meters.

It reads that "quarq prime" is the marketing name for the crankset that is power ready. you have a quarq prime cranked and fit a dzero spider into it. as mentioned before this is a brilliant marketing move. adding a power meter is now easier to add in that many other bike components.

I understood what you ment. I'm saying that when you read all the marketing out now the quarq prime is the crankset only. there is no mention of quarq prime being a new system or tech or platform. please refer to the bicycling write up below:

I think that Quarq Prime is a new tech system. It's more than just the crank. Either way, we will know soon!

So the obvious question then becomes...are they going to start blowing out their Riken and Elsa products soon in a similar way they blew out the 975s. I got my 975 back in 2013 when the price was cut from to $999. This was also back when the Riken was priced around $1300 and the Elsa around $1600.

If the DZERO is now priced at $1079...you would think they might drop the price of the Elsa to around $799 and the Riken to $599. The Elsa was priced at $1249 I think...and nobody is going to pay even $999 for it now.
