Were you at your ideal race weight?
Do you put on pounds and then try to lean out leading up to a race?
Any near collisions on the bike? What are your thoughts on a 3 loop course?
Everyone is asking about the bike and the run - How was your swim compared to your expectations?
- yes. 155lbs +/- 2lbs is what I shoot for, though I currently seem to hit that weight with appropriate training and don't need to diet to get there.
- yes. Mostly because otherwise I'd get too skinny. So when I put on pounds, it's mostly because I know I will lose weight once I start with heavy training. I don't ever put on a lot of pounds. I never really weigh more than about 161 lbs - or 6 lbs more than what I target for racing.
- Two "close calls." The closest was from someone putting a bottle in a rear carrier, which is part of why I hate rear cages. It's very unstable. I do like the three loop course though. You see family and friends, which is really nice. It's a very different experience than one-loop Canada, but I do enjoy it. I wouldn't have raced it three times if I didn't like. There are challenges, but I do like it. I also like it because other races are nice enough to cheer for me, which is really awesome.
- Great. Best swim ever. It was a bummer to get dropped off the back of the pack in the last 800m or so, but at the same time, I came out of the water closer to the front than ever. If I'd stayed in the group, I would have been two minutes off the back, which is probably a bigger improvement than I think is reasonable in one year. As it was, I already improved over a minute relative to where I was last year, which is great.
