no problem with 11 SAC ... you obviously had eXistenZ in there accidentally ... all the others are pretty bullet-proof, but d-cronenberg clearly let his weird body-machine-sex fetish get control of his movie. i have never seen a movie with so many f'ed up bone-gun, flesh-port, eating, inserting, finger-dipping scenes as that giant monument to creepy shit you don't want to look at while your mom's in the room! and nobody got naked!

dude just lost it with that one.

I've been on a Sean Penn kick lately, but "I am Sam" or whatever that one he stars as a handicapped Starbucks employee raising his daughter alone, that was pretty rough.

Anything with Ed Norton Jr. esp. "25th hour"

Truman Show/Forrest Gump get honorable mentions for creativity if there is such a thing.

more as I think of them.

Silent Running: Probably the best Sci Fi film ever. If you don’t cry at the end, you’re not human.
Barbarella: Hubba, hubba, hubba.
The man who would be King: Sean Connery and Michael Caine. Two of my favourite actors
The Italian Job: Caine again
Out of Africa: because the visuals take me right back to the months I spent out in the bush.
Blade Runner:
Breakfast at Tiffany’s: Audrey Hepburn, wibble.
Withnail & I
Apocalypse Now
The Quiet Man: Best John Wayne film, and so different from all the westerns
Fifth Element: A visual feast
Matrix: A new form of film
The Lost Boys
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: Ok, last 3 due to being an early 80’s teenager.
Laurence of Arabia: Oh they don’t make them like this anymore
The Crow
The Magnificent 7
True Grit: not bad for a fat old man.
Life of Brian: It just doesn’t get any funnier than this.

good catch ... no, not really ... i have this theory about all truly great movies having an essential element of sadness. which is not to say you can't enjoy them or say "that was a great movie" if it was happy go lucky, and all ... but it was not truly great. it's the way that a sad, or troubling movie leaves you affected, whereas happy movies are forgotten as soon as you pass the burger king drive through ... that's just the way it is ... in my opinion.

honestly, name a movie that doesn't have an undercurrent of sadness that makes it to the pantheon of truly great movies ... (i play this with my friends and co-workers, it's tougher than you think) ...

man Requiem for a dream is a TOUGH movie...it's really hard to watch...anyone who's got kids and worried about drugs...show them that movie...that makes you think twice for sure!

american history X was awesome. Wonder how Edward Norton goes from skinny to bulky then back to skinny in the 25th hour...he was also very very good in 'The players' (I think that's the title...with Matt Damond as a bright law student and card player)

How about (in the disappointments...)

Ocean's eleven (that I really liked, awesome rhythm etc.) and the oh so disappointing Ocean's twelve...that could have been great...
