yesterday I put my wetsuit on and played on my boggie board at Higgins Beach, Maine
now I'm in Mystic, CT through this coming Fri.
First yard swim since late Sept, didn't watch splits so much as just trying to acclimate to yards - and an analog clock, which I think is annoying. I am also a little tired from travel.

totals for this week are 13 miles of running and 13 miles of swimming. I've been babying the ankle I twisted on Thurs. It's almost 100% better.

500 on 7:30
400 on 6
4 x (50 kick, 100 fast)
300 swim
3 x (50 kick, 100 fast)
300 swim
2 x (50 kick, 100 fast) --- might have actually done 3 of these
200 swim
2 x (50 kick, 100 fast)
5 x 100 on 1:30
50 kick cd

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine

Did my first ever 100x100 yards on Saturday with my Masters team. Farthest I’ve gone before that was 5000 yards, at least as an adult (I quit swimming as a kid when I was 13/14 and don’t remember the yardage we were doing).

Felt pretty good for the first 8000 yards, then the fatigue set in which led to poor form and my shoulder acting up from the poor form. Last 2000 was a slog. Set consisted of 10x10x100s with 2 minutes break in between each set of 10. Roughly half was straight freestyle (1:30 interval, held 1:09 avg), with some equipment assisted free (pulls, drills, etc), some kick with fins (1:22avg - fatigued legs from a bike and run the day before), and some IM (1:15 avg) mixed in there. Kicks and IM were on 1:45.

I went into the set nervous like I was about to do a race, not sure if I could complete it but the camaraderie was great and it wasn’t as bad as I made it out to be.

It feels like it is very hard to get enough oxygen to output the level of power needed to go that fast. My HR was not that high, but I was sucking wind at the end of the 100 (and was pretty much breathing every 2 strokes).

today's swim:
2x[200 swim, 4x50 drill]
4x500 as cruise/strong on 1:20 base
1: 450/50
2: 400/100
3: 350/150
4: 300/200 (with paddles)
4x50 cruise

My 5 Day Covid Experience:

Wed - Woke up feeling like someone splashed concentrated acid onto my throat and lungs. Got test kits. Positive.
Thu - My throat/lungs are on fire. Positive.
Fri - My throat/lungs feel much better. I'm tired as hell. I'm sleeping 15hrs a day. Positive.
Sat - I feel much better. I go for a walk where no humans are, but feeling tired. Sleepapalooza. Positive.
Sun - I no longer feel tired. All symptoms are gone. Positive.
Today - Negative!! Twice, just to be sure. Swam 1500m in a gentle 29:45.

I hope I didn't break any rules. I figure 2 days of feeling relatively symptom-free and testing negative means that I'm ok.

I had 4 shots through the pandemic. I cannot imagine what this would be like if I was one of those "freedom" people. Good luck to them is all I can say.

I only swim.
I used to run. (31:09 10k)
I never did Triathlon.
Sue me.

Did my first ever 100x100 yards on Saturday with my Masters team.//

Great job on getting through the 100x100, and pretty study to average 1;09 for half of them and 1;15's for the IM's too. Maybe I could do 10 of each, but on like a 2 to 3 minute interval!! How old are you by the way(please dont say over 55) and certainly you had some college swim background??

Got into the hot pool today, 85.5 is my guess. Reduced expictations upon entering the water for sure:

Thank you! I'm glad I was able to do it after a year of battling injury. I'm 42, no college swimming background. I swam competitively from ages 8-14, then quit and didn't pick up swimming again until my early 30's. Did a couple years of consistent solo training, then a large number of years of very inconsistent training (we're talking less than 100k yards per year at most). I moved and joined a masters team finally June of 2021, and was consistent doing about 10-15k yards per week until November 2021 when I went to Thailand for vacation and did open water only there through February. Picked up a shoulder injury, broken thumb, COVID-19, and an injured back between March-July of this year so was again inconsistent. Since August I've been good and slowly working up the yardage peaking at 13-14k per week the last month.

Goal for this coming year is to actually be able to consistently swim and maybe work from 3 workouts per week to 4 or 5.

Thanks for filling us in on your history, and hope you have turned the corner on all the negative aspects of the past couple years. Well you must have been a pretty decent kid swimmer, it hardwired enough into your brain to be able to bring it back 15 years later.. You are about the same age as one of our fast regulars here, Adrian. You guys might even be similar speeds, makes for a great ST masters relay!!!

What do you think Adrian, doing 50x 1;09s on the 1;30, then a bunch of 1;15 IM's for a 10k workout, is this guy going 2nd in your lane??

Welcome to the fishes, come on in when you need to pinch a workout, or just get some motivation. We all drop in and out according to our injury and sickness schedules, although Tiger seems to just swim through all that stuff... (-;

I've been thinking of doing something silly over the holidays, maybe I will work up something goofy like 100x100, but it means like 3 hours at the pool which is a tough ask. But that's a really good performance.

Thanks for the welcome and words of encouragement Monty and Adrian! I was a decent swimmer as a kid, was top 10 in New England for anywhere from 4-7 events depending on the year during my 11-12 and 13-14 age group years. Never higher than 2nd place though! Story of my life :-)

Based on Adrian’s 54s 100y free during a practice without toys I’d say he’s on a whole other level from me! I haven’t done faster than a 58 off the wall in practice this year.

Ah no pace clock that's a tad annoying. At my regular pool there is a pace clock and a digital clock (with red numbers etc). Its funny as the digital and pack clocks are not in sync, and every week or so verge another 2-3 seconds apart. Starting to have a preference for the digital clock recently

Getting back into it LCM

today

200 easy
20x50 on 1 as fast efforts
100 easy
10x50 on 55 fast effort + 1 and getting t rex arms with fatigue
200 easy

Yesterday
1k easy
2 rounds of 2x100 on 120, 4x100 on 130, 4x100 on 140, 4 x 100 on 150 desc each block to best average on 150s
