Actually I think your correct and incorrect here. The US is pretty high in terms of sexuality in the media, yet we are also the most closed in our "familial" sexual communication. The result is that we have young people being bombarded by sexual information and media but have no clue as to the realities of sexuality, the "real world" sexuality not "Glamor" sex of the media. Of course this leads to alot of unknowlegable horney kids, with allusions and expectations of sexual fantasy land...and pregnancies.

Those of you shielding even young children from sex are severely misguided. No, you don't pop a porn video in after an episode of Barney, but to think you are doing them a favor by introducing as little info about sex as you can get away with is horrible parenting.

The real problem that no one talks about is that all this talk about the evils of sex and nakedness (which aren't the same thing, but get lumped together) is predominantly religious-based. Misinterpretations of the bible. Luckily there are more and more people (us evil fornicators) who are using their brains rather than passed down doctrine to navigate this issue. For those of you using the Bible as your sole guide to parenting sex issues, I will pray for you and your children. You need it.

I agree! It is OUR (parents) responsibility to educate our children about sex, violence........etc.......Stop blaming everyone else for the problems we experience. If you don't like it, don't buy it, and when your child asks how, why.............tell them. Don't sugarcoat the subject if you don't tell them someone else WILL! And this is why kids have all the wrong ideas about growing up and doing the right thing! Our country and the media makes Paris Hilton look like a hero to all the kids, here is where we are going seriously wrong. Many parents wait until kids are pre-teen to tell them about sex and their bodies, way to late, they already know what is going on, more than you think. Explain early and often and guide them.

What is your point? All those industries are fulfilling a need Americans have. If you have issues with the industry then place the blame where it belongs....on the indvidual people. If the people don't consume it, it won't exist.

Yes Matt, you are dead right in your post about societal issues. BUT, we have a whole crew here who want to blame Playboy, Amanda, manly-men like me, for the children being exposed to this stuff rather than the PARENTS who think they can put children in a bubble and keep them away it. And then they try to act like that is good parenting!!!


The problem with putting your 6 year old boy in a bubble and not let in any sexual information is that in about 10 minutes your 6 year old is going to get a little feeling in his wanky, and he's going to touch it and he's going to feel really good touching it. And when you let him out of the bubble to go to school (that is also in a bubble) he is going to see a cute little girl who makes his wanky feel the same way it did when he played with it. The point is that children, even VERY young children, innately know about sex, and will conger up their own images and fantasies, and they can be VERY disturbing to a young kid. That's where good parenting comes in. But some of you guys think that's preferable to societal influences. You are DEAD wrong. And your children will pay for it.

I think a few of the responses in this thread might illustrate the reason Amanda posed for Playboy. At least a couple of posters say they remember her as a little girl holding her teddy bear, now that she is a fully grown woman (as the pictures fully show LOL) she may have a harder finder work as an actress or spokesperson because too many peoples perception of her is of a child.
In response to the way this thread evolved into a moral question I will say the way network television has changed in last 20 years makes it uncomfortable to watch with children. The references to casual sex and oral sex make a lot of television innapropraite for children.

You really think network sitcoms and dramas are a frank discussion of sex? The problem is that what may be appropriate for one age is not for a younger age but it is thrown out for all. And I don't believe all 6-13 year olds are going to be masterbating.

Aren't all these issues though the perils of living in a free society where people are allowed to consume whatever THEY choose to (within a legal limit of course). You guys are free to say Amanda shouldn't be posing in this fashion just as she is free to pose nude. Both sides have to deal with the fact the other side will do the opposite of what they want. For those of us healthy folks who enjoy looking at a beautiful woman, I say thank you Amanda!!!

Maybe you didn't read my posts before we started chatting. i don't have kids and I LOVE looking at Amanda nude.

I'm just saying that it's not appropriate for all kids. I also think (per a previous post) it's up to the parents to control the inflow of information to the kids.

It seems like some posters on ST think it's ok for a 6 year old to look at nude pictures of women. I say no. If I had a kid, it'd be my problem to take care of that.

It's also the parents issue to show or not show, tell or not tell, their kids about issues.

Sitting idle and watching a show filled with sexual information with your kids is not parenting. Sitting and watching a show with your kids AND having a culture in the home that encourages them to ask frank questions that are responded to in kind IS good parenting. The only way that happens is to be frank and open with your kids about the subject.
