I didn’t like what Ditlev did on a hill around 120km mark. First he definitely stayed closer than 12m behind Sam, for a long time starting from a left turn until the feed zone. Second, he disposed a bottle just below an AG, almost causing him/her to crash. Ugly.

Lol Frodo just called Dreitz as Lange's previous faithful companion at the bike.

He apparently TESTED 20 min at 508, so FTP early May was approx 480, as per this:

If you have different (documented) data, please share ...

He was miles back after the swim, behind Kienle, Dreitz and even Starykowicz I think. He has made up some places but still lost time to the leaders.

I like Joe hugely, it’s hard not to, but I wish he’d take his swimming seriously rather than dicking about with a bunch of pensioners. I don’t see it being possible to win or maybe even podium at big races any more with ‘just’ a solid bike/run.

Sam and Magnus out together on the run, with Patrick and Ben coming in together 12min down on the leaders.

Not much coverage of the ladies on the bike???

Ryff is just.. too good. I had really forgotten she could be so dominant!
Can a coach really change so much?

Skipper in 6th & should pick off a couple more people. Let's not act like this isn't a stacked field. Skipper was 5th in Kona & is on track for a similar result here.

Yes, that’s exactly my point. 5th would be a solid result in a stacked field like this, but it isn’t a win or a podium.

It’s possible that Laidlow blows up and Skipper maybe catches Kanute and makes it onto the podium, and I will be delighted to be wrong if he does.

Can't believe LCB is missing out on one of the biggest races of the year due to racing 70.3 Kraichgau instead and using up all her Visa......

Few things:

1.) Reminder, we have the livestream on our homepage. Please go visit it so we can potentially do stuff like this again. :)

2.) Laidlow has indeed blown up.

3.) Jan is outstanding on commentary. Talking about stopping and the "the pain stops, but the hell you put yourself through in your mind just starts" is...shit. A+. Somebody give him a bunch of cash to do this full-time when he's done racing.

I agree. First time they do it together as well. Jan is really good and race focused. IM always seems to be just talking over the race not about what is on screen

If you take Ryf’s bike leg at face value then you have to accept that every female triathlete in history has at best been average on a bike.

Belinda is great and never seems to get much respect here. I have hung out with her a few times and she has a HUGE personality so I look at her commentating and think "good on ya for controlling that unbridled enthusiasm" .She is great and knows the sport inside out as she has lived it at the top for decades.

I will say that the lack of live splits on screen are a miss on the stream. That's something IM has gotten *very* good at.

Eric's on the back of a Moto on site.

The atmosphere and the ever growing crowds of spectators at Challenge Roth are a good answer to those of us who think triathlon is declining.
IM maybe is declining, the sport is doing fine.

PS: how good is it to watch a race without advertising breaks every 5 minutes!
