What's the formula for the point system?

1 point = 100 yd swim = 1 mi bike = 1/4 mi run

how about the metrics the rest of the world uses? :) same? 100m/1000m/250m?

I didn't set up the point system but I get your point:)

I'm in for 2014. I have done it the last 2 years, and only hit the bronze level. Mostly cause I run more than anything. This year, I have a tri coach, I'm biking and swimming in addition to running and I'm going for gold!!

I wish every one a wonderful and injury free 2014.

I'm in. I only logged a little bit in 2013.

Looking at my year, I might be able to hit gold if everything goes well. Running almost every day, more swim volume, and the addition of a commuting bike will pave the way.

Of course, I'm a little under the weather this morning for the first time in a long time. Grr.

Is there any conversion or inclusion of indoor trainer rides?

Great challenge! Long long ago when I began swimming, I got pretty obsessed with it, and built somewhat of a reputation for being insanely consistent. I went for about a three year stretch being able to count on one hand the number of scheduled workouts I missed. I've been longing for that feeling again - that feeling of being fully absorbed, sinking completely into a thing. Gonna do my best to re-ignite that with this challenge.

Sorry, I think I missed how to sign up for the challenge, could somebody explain the process again? Thanks.

click "training log" in upper right hand corner of this screen
once in there click 'challenges' tab
it will say "join challenge" - click that

I got really bored and added in my stuff from last year. Turns out I had entered the challenge last year. :) Looks like it isn't too hard to hit 12K. That will be my goal this year - that and quality vs quantity.

Actually, I think the question is one of how to input distance of indoor trainer rides, and that is something I am quite interested in myself as well, since speed on an indoor trainer is pretty far from real world speed, and thus distance is ridiculously off. My approach is to take my ride time and use an approximate average speed for an equivalent outdoor ride to come up with a distance to input. Luckily, since I have a computrainer, I can take the NP for the ride from trainerroad and correlate it to an approximation of what mph that would have produced so the guesswork is somewhat minimized, but it isn't a simple proposition! Of course, if I use the RM1 software, I just tweak the drag factor until the mph is in a reasonable range but even there, we are talking a ton of fudge factor.

I do the same thing for trainer rides. I don't think any given ride is that far off, but over a year I'm hoping that the errors average out instead of add up. Not sure of any other way to put it in the log and count it since it's based on miles and not time.

Ya, I see you hit about 11,100 for 2013 so 12,000 should be easy if you set your mind to it:)

I make the conversion pretty straight forward. If I ride the rollers (which I always ride pretty hard), I give myself credit for 30 kph, even though my "speed" on those rides tends to be around 38 kph. If I ride my Computrainer moderately hard like 220W (which is half IM race pace), I generally give myself credit for 34-36 kph with the warmup and cooldown. If I ride at 240-250W, I generally give myself credit for 38-40 kph depending on how long my warmup/cooldown was. It's all an estimation but over a year it kind of evens off. In the end, it is all honor system. Give yourself credit for the work you do. If we cheat ourselves in an ST challenge, there are bigger problems that we need to be worried about. In the end, all of this is to get us fitter.

I have to say I really didn't think this challenge out before I joined. Some of you people are monsters. I really doubt that I can attain the 18k points but I think with some effort I will be able to achieve one of the lower levels. My biggest problem is that I am so damn slow in the water, hopefully undertaking this challenge will help with that. Good luck to all and Happy New Year.

It is great fun - can't believe I've not seen it before - my volume is benefitting currently from a few days off work but it is great fun. Swim is easiest points which motivates you into the pool which is great. I'm in Saratoga Springs NY and it was -5F this morning round 7am..... I had 8 lanes at the Y all to myself...... 2 lifeguards were the only others I saw in there!

Does anyone know how I can change my totals to display in Miles... I've selected US Standard in my profile, but metric still displays... I did not pay any attention in math, I don't know what 243km means.

Go to your profile in the training section - scroll down a bit and you'll see settings. Just choose US customary system and it should work fine.

Also - can anyone help me with the plodding of Garmin files from my 910? I have the Garmin Communicator installed in my MacBook and the first few times it all worked fine. Now tough, when I try to upload new workouts it all goes ok until I get to the "uploading to server" screen. It basically freezes here for ages, with no uploads going through.

I've checked on the Garmin Communicator site and I have the latest version.

Cheers

OK girl--you're on! But to just warn you--I've solved my peroneal problem and have a relatively free race calendar--it's all about building for Kona now. I am and am going to be putting up some big numbers in the weeks ahead....Nt to say that you won't but you have your PhD thing and are trying to accomplish things in life....I'm old and just living off of my past accomplishments....Still I can't resist taking down a vibrant young female athlete--you better be spending a ton of time in the pool dear or else you'll fall far behind!

All these years, never knew this was a thing

With 2014 almost half over, too late to jump in now [and I'm sure I'd be far FAR from competitive, anyway] but, for 2015 ...???

You can join now and just back fill your workouts...or just add your yearly volumes to date into one swim one bike and one run workout and you'll be up to date.

Rcmioga....not sure I will get to gold this year. My business travel schedule Sep-Nov is likely going to be insane from what I can tell right now and the next few months will be a lot of racing and tapering!
