GOAT squad round 1: Number
Harder than you'd think. None of these are my favorite or who I'd say is the GOAT in their sport, but cumulative GOATiness grouped by number is the goal here.

I'm going with #8.

NFL: Steve Young
MLB: Cal Ripken, Jr.
NBA: Kobe
NHL: Ovechkin

#34 was hard to pass up.

Just to be different. #1

Warren Moon
Oscar Robertson

How does Danny Hart sit down with balls that big?

I don't think you understand the assignment.

Isn't Johnny Bower that greasy little dude from Laverne & Shirley?

Better but relies too heavily on the hockey and baseball ringers. For reference:

Quote:
Steve Young: B+
Cal Ripken, Jr.: A
Kobe: A+
Ovechkin: A+

I get the Gordie Howe pick, but that required that you pass over Lanny McDonald, which is a shame.

Greatest players to sport a moustache:

Lanny McDonald
Rollie Fingers had a better moustache but Randy Johnson is the winner
Julius Irving
Walter Payton

I can't argue with any of that.

But modern day honorable mention goes to the Philly backup QB.

Not sure I’d go with Bird over Kareem

NFL: You got Aaron Donald, JJ Watt, Warren Sapp, Jason Taylor
MLB: Aaron Judge
NBA: George Mikan

#34 was hard to pass up.

if you are confined to Houston sports heroes 34 isn't even close:
Nolan Ryan, Earl Campbell and Hakeem Olajuwon all wore the number 34.

99 is surprisingly strong:

NHL: duh
MLB: Aaron Judge
NFL: JJ Watt or Aaron Donald
NBA: George Mikan

If Judge hits 600+ homers and Aaron Donald stays great for 3 more seasons this will be the answer. The problem with 8 is Kobe is 24.

Out of curiosity I looked to find a comparison of his stats in each jersey. They are surprisingly similar

Almost nobody is picking Bird over Kareem. Larry is an A+ HoF all-time gamer. No doubt! Kareem is at another level beyond that.

#5 seems to best be left to baseball:
Bench (all time greatest catcher to play the game)
DiMaggio
Pujols
