Discounting people that work within my branch of government who are news famous (like FBI Directors and Attorney Generals and such) or that I've crossed paths with for work stuff.

I guess I'd say:

Gwen Stefani - Met her at an after party after a No Doubt show. I think they were crashing at a friend of mines house because they were a dirt poor band playing shitty clubs. This was long before they were a famous band and a year or so before their first record came out. My guess is sometime in 1991. In full disclosure, I did not actually attend the concert. I simply went to the party for beer and girls. Saw Gwen immediately upon getting there and made a beeline straight for her. Drop dead gorgeous and super cool. I'm sure I spent plenty of time hitting on her to no avail. Years later I was watching MTV and that Just A Girl video came on and I was like, "Hey, I hit on that girl at a party once." I was now married and my wife was like, "Yeah, sure you did." Wife still doesn't believe me. Gwen's loss!

Axl Rose - Snuck backstage at a Tom Petty concert back in college. Venue was an outdoor arena. Axl was back there standing by himself waiting for his limo. My friends and I chatted with him for about 15 minutes. He was actually very nice. Dressed in the same exact outfit he wore in the Paradise City video.

Alan Alda - Sat next to him on a plane from Houston to Boston. I was like, "Hey, that guy looks like Alan Alda." Because it was.

Jennifer Carpenter - Sat next to her on a plane from Houston to Las Vegas. The "what are the chances" thing was I actually had a DVD of season one of Dexter that I was going to watch on my laptop but just couldn't do it with one of the stars of the show sitting right next to me.

I've met various other alt-rock or punk band members that aren't necessarily super famous like Henry Rollins, Paul Westerberg, Bob Mould, and J Mascis.

Had about a 30-45 minute conversation with Stephen Hawking about dinosaurs. He was at the museum where my wife works on the '98 Superbowl Sunday and we happened to be there and had questions. Being a bit of a dino geek at the time, I and another guy who was a geologist got to have a good long talk with him and answered his questions as best we could. To say I was on cloud 9 is an understatement.

Well, let's have that beer before you move. You moving back up to the desert compound? //

Definitely, house is for sale right now, but of course there is a huge downturn in Orange County right now, bad luck. The good news is I got equity from the past couple years, so still above where I bought. Will probably go back to Valyermo for a bit, but plan is to head back to La Quinta, to be near the inlaws. My wife mother got a bad diagnosis of Parkinsons, so we are going to get the kids and her close for these next years. Build some lasting memories while it is still possible.

But looking there, and the fact that I have a guy we ride with up there on MTB that builds houses, it will be cheaper for me to build than buy in some gated, high HOA community. So for that down time, it is off to the mountains, clean air, and buses that actually pick my kids up and take them to school, like the old days!!!

Cool story about Heather, and I have heard she jumped the shark awhile back. And I dont know or have ever met Maxinne, but I hate her, and despise that she represents much of what I vote for...

Stan McChrystal, I guess. I don’t get to many rich and famous type places where those folks hang out.

My brother flew out of Andrews AFB for a while ... all the way up to AF2. He met a ton of political, beltway, and military types. Flew the first family multiple times, Powell, Condi, etc. he also flew a few USO trips to the desert when he drove tankers. Coolest celeb he met was Wayne Newton. Biggest jerk was Jay Leno.

The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald… striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one – big hitter, the Lama – long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga… gunga, gunga lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.

Yahoos seems about right - they're hilarious. Did a training camp for one of those multi-sport thingies some years ago, and the crew was those two + spouses and Jimmy R. Ah, to be.young again. ..

Yeah, I didn't have much anyway. I waited tables a long time ago and had the pleasure of meeting/ serving Miss Indiana of 1994. She wasn't very nice. That's all I got.

Literally no one...is that bad? Literally the only example I can come up with is Pat Burns (old Bruins head coach), I was a waiter for him at a small NH restaurant once, though didn't say a word to him beyond asking for his order and whatnot.

Next closest is an old security job I had at the Boston Garden; I was on the floor for Celtics games so saw a ton of NBA stars, couple of times worked the visitors locker room for Bruins games and was stationed outside Simon and Garfunkel's room and escorted them to the stage. Never interacted with any players/performers but it was pretty cool.

I went to a speech by the Dalai Lama at a local college. It was really good. He had a presence about him that was noticeable.

It didn’t help my golf game at all ...

I was on a committee that talked to both George Schultz and Neil deGrasse Tyson. In person, Schultz just seemed like the kind of person who doesn’t miss anything.

The funny thing about NdGT was that we had a few people call into that one and one of them had a hot mike. She said something like “he sure does like to talk a lot” and he just got a funny look on his face.
