Yup. There are many reasons to hate Trump but his demonization of the FBI is one of his worst legacies. People really don't understand what a critical job they do.

They said nothing when their fellow travelers shot up a mosques, schools, churches, synagogues, Wallmarts, etc. They will defend, deflect and obfuscate.......then they will start right back up again spewing hate and lies.

I don’t know. You would think zero people employed by the FBI would’ve voted for Trump in 2020 after his bullshit siege on us for four years but I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually had more votes than Biden. Sadly, party over country infiltrates all walks of life and the FBI skews conservative. All those people within the FBI that voted for Trump would investigate him to the end of the earth if needed and do their job without prejudice. But then turn around and support him politically. It’s a bizarre dynamic that I can’t square. Awesome that 99.9% of the time the job supersedes politics but one’s personal tribal politics is hard to shake.

I hope that they remain faithful to their oath of office.

I see this same thing. I live in a small town that was heavily in favor of Trump in the last two elections. I see many, many people in town that have indicated they would vote for Trump again without a moment of hesitation. Some of them believe all the crazy conspiracy theories but many of them realize that he was responsible for J6 and many of the other things he's been accused of, but they'll vote for him anyways. I just can get my head around that.

I can echo this as I have had family members say to me they would vote trump as they had great money making years while trump was in office. "He is good for my pocketbook".

The pure return is not as psychologically significant to a lot of people. (People hold onto losers and don't sell winners too).

The S&P 500 is higher in dollar terms.

Today it's at 4500 so unit is 45000. On 9/11 it was 1500 so a unit was 15000. A 10% bump today is worth 4500 bucks but the same bump 20 years ago was only worth 1500 bucks.

A lot of people only look at the dollar value of their account and not percentage return. That's where the disconnect comes from.

But percentage increase is the only metric that makes sense in a "but my 401k" discussion across a 30 year span.

Looking at just the S&P 500 also creates issues.

I have one account underperforming the market this year (it out performed in the past) but that's due to the mixture of stocks in it. Just looking at that one account I was doing better under Trump than Biden.

Most people have bonds in their retirement account in some fashion. Those are getting SMOKED because rates are going up.

Lots of people lost their asses in crypto. I have a buddy whose mom's club sat around and traded crypto. He staked her 10K and at one point she was up something like 200%. That is no longer the case but happy wife happy life

Sentiment also drives things. Inflation is real. Whether it is all Biden’s fault or not doesn't matter a lot because he's President while it is going on. People have less money generally which means less money to invest.
