FBI Office in Cincy

Two guesses why a man with a gun showed up at FBI office in Cincinnati this morning.

Quote:
Ohio State Highway Patrol officers reportedly exchanged fire Thursday morning with a man who tried to break into an FBI building in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Northbound Interstate 71 was shut down after the suspect drove away from the scene and reportedly started firing at police from a cornfield, NBC 15 News reported. FBI negotiators have also arrived on the scene.

Assaulting police officers is one thing, causing the shutdown of an Interstate is whole other level of wrongdoing!

Yup. There are many reasons to hate Trump but his demonization of the FBI is one of his worst legacies. People really don't understand what a critical job they do.

I know that trump won't give a shit, in fact he will be thrilled that someone did that for him.

However, maybe the other GOPers will wake up and reconsider their rhetoric. I think it would be awesome if some Republican legislators and the far right wing media personalities had to worry about their safety from some crazed idiots.

Not only that, but the FBI is highly conservative. I'm guessing the overwhelming majority are Republican. It's law enforcement at the highest level.

Maybe too conservative? I mean real conservative where they value the Constitution over party.

That happened back on Jan 7. They finally saw the light and the danger of all the violent rhetoric. That lasted about 3 days. There is no reason to think this will last any longer. The GOP has embraced the nutjobs, the distinction between the two is gone.

What you guys said.

10 years ago I would have never imagined lies and bullshit rhetoric spewed out of the mouths of elected officials of this country would lead to events like January 6th and today.

There are a shocking number of dopey people in this country, a subset of which are crazy, dangerous, and gullible. Lies and bullshit rhetoric are what incite the dopey, crazy, dangerous, and gullible. It has to stop and people need to be held accountable. I shouldn’t have to worry about driving into my office and being ambushed by some fucking nut with an AR15 fueled by some politician’s (a President for fucks sakes) bullshit. There’s no need for my life or anyone else’s to be in danger over bullshit like this.

I don’t know. You would think zero people employed by the FBI would’ve voted for Trump in 2020 after his bullshit siege on us for four years but I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually had more votes than Biden. Sadly, party over country infiltrates all walks of life and the FBI skews conservative. All those people within the FBI that voted for Trump would investigate him to the end of the earth if needed and do their job without prejudice. But then turn around and support him politically. It’s a bizarre dynamic that I can’t square. Awesome that 99.9% of the time the job supersedes politics but one’s personal tribal politics is hard to shake.

I see this same thing. I live in a small town that was heavily in favor of Trump in the last two elections. I see many, many people in town that have indicated they would vote for Trump again without a moment of hesitation. Some of them believe all the crazy conspiracy theories but many of them realize that he was responsible for J6 and many of the other things he's been accused of, but they'll vote for him anyways. I just can get my head around that.

I'm not insinuating they wouldn't. In fact, I made the statement two sentences before your bolded part they would go to the end of the earth to fulfill their oath and duty. But then vote for him anyway.

I think my comment of "Sadly, party over country infiltrates all walks of life..." could have been written better. I meant that more in the way of tribal politics are so ingrained with some folks that they would never vote for someone from the other party.

I was a life long registered Republican until I moved to FL in 2019 and changed to no party affiliation because the GOP went wackadoodle on me. That's not to say I always voted R because I voted for a D POTUS a few times.

I'm generally a bit more liberal when it comes to domestic and social issues and more conservative when it comes to international and economic issues. I'm not a particular fan of a lot of the Democratic agendas, and certainly not the far liberal side of things. That stated, character trumps (see what I did there) tribal politics and there's no way I could ever vote for Trump and his ilk. I will vote for any D over the current crop of GOP leaders.

And Obama's.

I don't think it's really the 401(k) thing.

I was recently having lunch in a rural small town, and overheard the conversation behind me. The guy was describing how one of his clients was super great and friendly, but had once tried to tell him that "neither party was working in his interest" and to not believe Trump. And the guy proceeded to go on a rant about how the Democrats were trying to ruin the country, and he was super angry at this client who he liked in every other way. And the client (apparently) hadn't told him to vote Democrat, just to stop believing garbage.

Tribal politics can even distort math. At this point in their presidencies and taking % change in the the S&P500 as a benchmark, Biden's doing significantly better than Clinton. By the same benchmark both Obama and Clinton did much better than Trump over the first (and in Trump's case only) 4 years. Biden is behind Trump at this point but that's only been the case for about 6 months and the S&P fell pretty dramatically at the end Trump of Trump's second year so I'd bet that may well be reversed soon.

The pure return is not as psychologically significant to a lot of people. (People hold onto losers and don't sell winners too).

The S&P 500 is higher in dollar terms.

Today it's at 4500 so unit is 45000. On 9/11 it was 1500 so a unit was 15000. A 10% bump today is worth 4500 bucks but the same bump 20 years ago was only worth 1500 bucks.

A lot of people only look at the dollar value of their account and not percentage return. That's where the disconnect comes from.

To you and me perhaps but there's a reason retail is held in disdain.

Looking at just the S&P 500 also creates issues.

I have one account underperforming the market this year (it out performed in the past) but that's due to the mixture of stocks in it. Just looking at that one account I was doing better under Trump than Biden.

Most people have bonds in their retirement account in some fashion. Those are getting SMOKED because rates are going up.

Lots of people lost their asses in crypto. I have a buddy whose mom's club sat around and traded crypto. He staked her 10K and at one point she was up something like 200%. That is no longer the case but happy wife happy life

Sentiment also drives things. Inflation is real. Whether it is all Biden’s fault or not doesn't matter a lot because he's President while it is going on. People have less money generally which means less money to invest.

This is another topic entirely but 99% of those people don’t understand how the markets were falsely inflated under the trump administration. I’m not going to kid myself that I understand the market but I knew enough that I predicted whomever had the responsibility to try and fix it after him would get blamed for crashing the markets.
