I just switched to socket rockets. I'm liking them so far.

A few people recommended them in a thread i saw on fb, saying they were grear. That is about the best feedback i can give.

I bought a pair and have had ~5 swims in them. What can I say... They are a goggle, they don't leak, they don't fog (haven't had to spit in them yet), visibility is pretty good. So what more could you want?

They feel pretty good, no worse than the sometimes leaky vanquisher 2's I was using. They have a very nice carrying case, quality seems pretty good, I think they will hold up fairly well.

Would I spend the money again? Probably. But at this point I am not willing to spend the money for a second clear pair to use in the pool.

I don't remember all the models off the top of my head, but two types of Aquasphere (Kaiman, Kayanne), two Speedos, the mask style (seal something?), Tyr, Nike. All fit well in the store, but leak when I swim.

Are they all "open water" style goggles?

In my experience, smaller "competition style" goggles work better for more people, partly because the nose bridge is adjustable or interchangeble, and partly because they fit more securely inside the eye socket rather than around the eye. I use speedo "speed sockets" in competition, and they are like suction cups. I can feel the suction pull when I take them off, they are that secure, and have literally NEVER leaked. I like to keep them in good shape, so I use swede style in training, which once in a while will leak, but only because they have a cheap latex strap that stretches out over time. If I forget to periodically tighten them, then they might leak.

I just bought a pair of Blueseventy swedes, which came with a silicone strap, so they might be better.

The big open water style goggles never work for me.

I was very surprised that 'theMagic5' came with 3 different nose bridges. If they are custom made for me... why do they need to give different nose bridges? Really it is just the molding around the socket that is custom made, and the nose piece that it was assembled with fit without issue (which never happens - I always have to switch to a larger one) but it just kind of struck me as funny.

Do arena Cobra Ultra or Core fit her? If so problem solved... honestly if you had 3D printer patterns for the nose pieces on a bunch of the top race goggles that would be a better idea than Magic5.

Make sure you are trying goggles that have multiple nose bridges; I've found that is key to getting a good fit/seal (and having it hold up over an an extended period...I've found the silicone frames stretch out over time). Personally I've had good luck with the Aquasphere K180 (not the K180+). Speedo Vanquishers also work well for me, but are not as comfortable, and the gasket is not as accommodating.

When you do find a pair that work well, buy half a dozen so you have some after the discontinue or "improve" them.

I raced someone on their small staff and he spoke a little about his goggles. I decided I was sick of being blinded by sunrises in races with my mirrored Vanquisher 2s and I purchased a pair for OWS only. He saw my name come across and actually gave me a small discount, but I'd have happily paid full price knowing what i do now.

I have now raced at LP and Kona in them and done several outdoor training swims and I've never been able to see everything in and out of the water as clearly as I can with these on. I usually make sure the nose piece is tight when I put them on (It appears they've fixed this problem now), but otherwise they've been everything I hoped. I don't wont them as loose as they advertise but much looser than I did with my vanquishers. I still use clear vanquisher 2 in the pool because I have several pairs I bought on sale to use up.

So, to conclude: Perfect for OWS.

I had issues with my first pair leaking but I will give a 5* review on their customer service because they worked with me until I had a pair that wouldn't leak. Now I wouldn't buy a pair from another manufacturer. Are they pricey? Yes. Do I think that they are worth it? Yes. Do I spit in them? Yes but maybe that's just my own habit/security. Crystal clear vision in and out of water.

I've been reviewing goggles lately for my channel. I've been reluctantly impressed with the Magic5 goggles. My gut feeling was that they were doing some minor adjustments to eye spacing but that was incorrect. It's a 3d custom gasket based on the face scan. The nose bridge can be switched out. The 'custom' part is the gasket not the nose bridges.

The custom gasket doesn't have a ton of plush wiggle room so the scan has to be done correctly for them to work. And my experience is that they really do work well.

My normal goggles are $7. So $50+ is kind of a stretch. Crazy but I actually think they're worth it. They might actually be worth more. They come with a nice case and I can't imagine something like this going for much less.

That being said, they do have a subscribe pricing model which might be smart for people that love these goggles. Saves you about 30% making the goggles under $40. I'll probably circle back and do another review of these goggles after 100 days or maybe 100k of swimming but for now I think they're pretty solid.

Do they eliminate "goggle eyes"? They're advertised as not leaving typical goggle eye marks due to the custom fit, which is why I'm thinking of trying them. I'm not a vein person either, but I did a 100 X 100y swim a couple weeks ago and it looked like a bee stung me in both eye sockets. I also swim at the gym and then run. And although I'm happily married for 19 years, I'd rather not look like a raccoon running on a gym TM :)

I currently wear TYR Special Ops cause they're one of the few brands that fit my face and don't leak. But the soft gaskets wreak havoc on my eye sockets, and I don't even wear them tight.

Regular everyday training goggles just get thrown in my gear bag with everything else.

I've tried that in the past (sans case). What I've learned through the years is that I like to race in the pair that I currently train in. They seem to be more 'dialed in' to my current levels of comfort and expectation. When I've kept a special pair just for racing, that's when I've had goggle malfunction. The training goggles seem to have more trust come race day.

For fifty freaking dollars they should come with a carbon fiber case!!!

I don’t trust any goggle company’s anti fog. I feel like they all work great for two weeks and then you’re on your own.
I’ll do another review of these goggles after 100 days or 100km but I probably won’t blame or give much credit to how well their anti fog coating holds up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, no one is buying these for the case but it’s nicer than any goggle case I’ve ever had in the past so I’m going to try to use it. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I also think it’s one of those nice subtle things that goes with the premium price tag. Like all of the fancy Apple unboxing experiences, it’s a nice touch. But I do wonder if they could have knock off another $5-10 if they didn’t send it to you with the case. 🤔

why is that? different style, or just differences in setup?

with swedes, I've gotten pretty good at tying the nose bridge so it's exactly the same on every pair of goggles I own, and since the time this thread was originally posted I've switched to bungee straps with a barrel adjuster on them. plus there's no gasket to compress over time, so every pair fits exactly the same.

I've been using my current swedes (the non-mirrored pair that come in the Speedo swede 2-pack) for about 3 weeks now, and the antifog on them is fantastic. Swimming fly, the water just beads right off, making it really easy to spot the wall for turns.

A couple of reasons:
-I don't use swedes and do use Vanquishers
-I think the contours of my face change a little bit over time. Perhaps it's due to weight changes. Perhaps it's due to skin elasticity. My current goggles are dialed in to my current face
-I think my preferences for how tight I like the straps change over time. Current goggles match those preferences.

Any time I go to a different pair of goggles (older or newer, doesn't matter), they just feel different. It's like putting on an old pair of running shoes. They were once excellent but now they've somehow changed. Goggles are like that for me.

back when I used vanquishers, and then speed sockets, I noticed that the fit definitely changed as the goggles aged and the seals compressed. I think it's more likely that the goggles change than your face. I could see the difference visually. Vanquishers are also more sensitive to strap tension too. swedes need almost nothing, the strap doesn't provide the pressure for suction on your eye sockets. they're just tight enough to keep them from falling off your face, whereas other styles need enough pressure to deform the seal. I haven't used the magic5's but that's the appeal of them, that the pressure needed to deform the seal is greatly reduced since it already fits the contours of your eyes.

you might want to try, if you haven't already, some of the newer Speedo goggles, like the speed socket 2.0's they've changed the seal to a 3d fit, so they should conform to the contours of your eyes better out of the box.

Easily best goggles I've ever used by far. I've had mine for a month or so. Excited to use them. Zero leak and zero fog. Love them! I just bought another - the Ben Kanute LE using that slowtwitch20 discount.

Just ordered and pair and did the scan. Now the waiting begins.

I got in during their initial Kickstarter campaign a year or two ago. I tried them once and then put them away because I was using Zone3 goggles and loved them.

I decided to pull them out and try them the last few months and WOW, simply amazing. I can keep the headband much looser than a normal pair of goggles, reduces headaches after 2 miles swimming, and they definitely don't leak at all. The only "drawback" I notice is that I can't see quite as well off to the sides because of they way they are shaped to fit my eyes, but overall I'm extremely impressed.

I've used these goggles for the past two years, and I can't imagine going back to speedo or arena. It feels like I'm not wearing any goggles, and the vision is great.
I had some issues with the fit at first, but after contacting them, they've been nothing but helpful, and altered the fit, and now they're perfect!

Can only recommend them!!

I'm thinking about giving them a shot... I've been using the Roka R1s the last couple of seasons. They sometimes leak which does bug me... but the sighting vision with the R1s "rapidsight" is pretty amazing when they don't leak.

How is sighting with the Magic5's? Specifically does anyone have comparative experience between the Roka R1s and the Magic5's?

If they don't leak and the sighting is really good... I think I'm in.

I haven't used the Rokas myself, but the vision is honestly so great on TheMagic5's.

From what I can see with the Rokas, though, they seem like they limit the vision when looking downward, whereas TheMagic5's have an angle on the lenses making you able to look downward as well.

Very broad range of vision, and the antifog on the lenses works great.

I'm just very happy with mine, and can only recommend them!

That's a lie regarding the vision. 0/10.

So, just like most contact point accessories, YMMV. Despite the custom face scanning, these are going to work well for some and less so for others. The scanning probably increases the % of the population who can get a good seal.

Not sure if it's because my eyes are small and deep set, but overall were definitely a no. I couldn't even wear them for 1 lap of the pool.

Right now they're offering nurses/doctors/hospital employees a discount code to get a pair for free to use for PPE since the crap we're currently using (and re-using after they're sterilized in the autoclave) are pretty subpar. I've never used them before..but I'm hoping they'll fit me better than what we've got at my hospital. I had a pair of the Roka F2s and hated them for swimming, they didn't seal to my face at all, so maybe these will be better. If not, I'll repurpose those Rokas.

I saw that Roka also created a PPE tab (clear "sunglasses" and X1 goggles). Is there actually a shortage of optical PPE? I ask since, unlike masks/gloves/gowns, eye shields/lab goggles are not typically disposable.

I've been using speed sockets for years. For me, they don't leak at all, but I wasn't crazy about the narrower field of view for open water swimming or the suction feeling on my eye sockets.

Magic5 have been awesome on those fronts. No leaking, wide field of view compared to the speed sockets, and I don't get that feeling of the goggles being suctioned cupped to my eyeballs. I'm definitely a fan.

I mean, pretty much all PPE are in short supply. Right now the hospital I'm at is doing a reprocessing thing for N95s and face shields/goggles/glasses, which pretty much means that they all get put in a trash bag and then run through the autoclave. I personally would rather use my own goggles in that case. I wear glasses, and trying to fit something over top of those is obnoxious, but if I'm wearing my own goggles, no matter how dorky they look, I'd be willing to wear my contacts.

I saw that Roka has a PPE tab now, but they're not donating their products so I'll go with my two free pairs of Magic5 goggles.
