Do you know this word?
I am trying, using a very scientific method, to determine if this word is Canadian or even Ontario specific.

So without looking it up, do you know what a thunderbox is?

Don't look at the other answers first... just tell me what you think a thunderbox is.

I've never heard the term, from USA.

I grew up in Michigan just across a bridge from Ontario. Some of our TV and radio stations came out of Canada. Never heard of it.

Sure. It’s a room adjacent to the Thunder Dome

It's not really a room so much.

A rather well-worn vagina, perhaps in the month post-delivery of a baby or from too many nights entertaining a rock and roll band (and the roadies). When you make love to it there are a lot of squishy, fart noises unless you bring massive girth to the party.

You know, like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

Am I right?

Like walking into a warm room.

But no, that is not right.

We have a winner.

Here in Ontario this would be your standard issue Thunderbox (if you are a backcountry camper)

Yeah, you have to spray in the box and possibly use a twig to remove spiderwebs (if you are the first person to use it in the morning).

So not the place the wife and kids go camping, huh...?

The family loves "camping", but only if there's comfort stations and nightly hot showers...lol

The thunderbox is your "comfort station". You can bathe in the lake. It might not be as hot as they want it.

Complete guess - boombox(portable radio)

Wife is from Ottawa so I texted her to ask. Will edit to add.

I am going to guess that it's a large portable box that one like Lil Kim would use to carry all his "shit" in with when traveling.

It's an outdoor outhouse, if that isn't overly redundant. A hole in the ground with a wooden box toilet set up over it, no walls or roof. Makes a good boom/thunder when you shut the lid, plus the witty double entendre of a thunderous bowel movement.

At least that's what it was when I was in Boy Scouts.

I grew up in Wisconsin, which is basically Ontario lite on these sorts of issues.

Having visited the north and less developed parts of Canada I am familiar with the term.

Have you heard of Honey-buckets?

I've never heard of a thunderbox. But we have lots of honeybuckets in Alaska. (Not at my house, fortunately.)

Never heard of that one.

You could put a honeybucket inside a thunderbox. In fact, I'd bet that's not unusual.

Thunderbox is Australian slang for toilet. The name comes from the "noises" involved. :)

In my neck of the woods, Honey Bucket is a fairly large porta-potty supply/servicing biz (kinda like ‘Ironman’ is to triatha... nevermind) ~ so in their case it has walls, w/ the thunderbox built in.

Down here in Oz Thunderbox refers to a toilet (although an old fashioned saying). I think it's derived from old days when the toilet was out the back before sewerage/septic tanks were installed. The wooden box/seat was above the pan (the Thunderbox) which was collected from the "dunny guy" that used a laneway between the rear of houses to empty the "dunny pan". Anyone who has used a thunderbox during an Ozzie summer knows why it's called a thunderbox.

Anything else?
