Pics of the bottom of one of my favorite climbs near my house, Highway 72/Coal Creek Canyon in Colorado. 10 miles north of Golden, 10 south of Boulder. During the weekdays at the right times, you won't see many cars nor any people. It's awesome! Cat 1 climb, 10.5 miles with 2300ft + of climbing (start at 6200ft, finish up around 8500). Drop down over the back and another 10 miles and you're on the Peak to Peak Highway, which runs along the backside of the front range and was a nice, wide shoulder.

Rolling hills of Southern PA

Last few kilometers of about a 100K loop in northern Simcoe County we do from our cottage (about 2 hours north of Toronto). No stop lights. A couple of stop signs, and maybe 5 - 10 cars encountered on a busy day!

If we want to see even less cars then we hit the gravel roads. The 2 - 3 cars you'll see at most, often will stop and make sure we are OK and not lost! :)

Nice! Nice place to ride too! In 55km you get about 1200m of altitude climb. Two laps there make for a brutal day.

Thanks for the post and pictures, they brought back some great memories. Not of riding up Mt. Jeez though. I've considered it, but heck the last time I drove up I wondered if I was going to get enough traction to just make it in a car. Always figured I would need to do it on a mountain bike too if I attempted it so I'm impressed that you guys tackle it on road bikes. My wife and I had our first date at Malabar Farm. I don't live in Ohio anymore, but every time we visit family in Mansfield I try to get a few rides in that incorporate Malabar Farm and/or Mohican. Great area and great roads. Enjoyed your You Tube too!

Thanks man! Malabar is a really nice area to do just about anything. I lived an hour north all of my life, and recently moved to Columbus, so now I'm an hour south. It's worth the drive every time.

Mountain bike trail a few minutes ride from my house - right in the middle of Phoenix.

Autumn afternoon ride along the Berlin Wall Trail. I'll be returning to the PNW this summer after living in Berlin for the past four years. I'm really going to miss the unique sights and history of this city and the surrounding countryside. Good times.

i miss living there! 3 miles from that exact spot, miss the surf at that point :-( Don't miss the cold.

Heh...hasn't been cold this winter...I think it was 35F the day I took that pic, but there was a 25 mph wind. Some people would think it was crazy to ride in those conditions. I think the crazy people are the ones that were surfing...

I had just started biking when i moved to north hampton, so was lot more surfing then biking, lots of early morning freezing cold surf sessions! Great area man, i do miss it!

I knew it looked familiar! I don't ride there, as I'm from just above Rochester, but I work in Portsmouth and do a number of 5k's/10k's in the seacoast, including Exeter. Although, at my last job, we did used to ride at lunch a lot in the Kittery area - great ride and also the only place I ever hit anything on my bike... stupid turkey...

I just went through there last week on the Tour Aotearoa. The endless gravel hills from Hunterville through to Palmy was definitely a highlight for me.

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. I was on my taper for IMNZ but looking forward to getting back up there shortly.

This (with the antenna) is our town's landmark mountain, from 4 sides a 450m climb .. different long .. different steep .. and different rhythms .. pro racers take the peak under 15min from the steep side. The character school this year took very hard 6min longer for me with the pre next year weight ..

Peak to Peak highway at 9200ft

Ochsenbach is a short sprinter hill with a nice run. To compete there with the left rider 800 Watts for 20 seconds is just enough to see his back wheel. Fortunately I was his guest for this No 100 of his regular lunch break ride this year ..

Whoa. Haven't seen so much flat since driving from OKC toward Tulsa one time. Around here (PNW) if you aren't a climber you aren't a cyclist. We have a 1400 foot climb 2.5 miles long, right in the city. Go out of town a bit and you can find Giro d'Italia level madness. 20 mile long climb? 10 foot snow banks on either side on a 70 degree June day? Yep got it.



Closer to home, I ride on this trail nearly every day. There's almost no one there mid day during the week:

On vacation with wife's family, for a two year postponed huge family reunion, like 24 something in laws. They all determined destination on their own. Packing Saturday night, laying luggage by door.

Wife: WTF is that?
Me: My bike.
Wife: Oh heck no!
Me: But, Babe, it's Kona
Wife: What does that mean??
Me: Kona
Wife: I know, I booked the trip. So what?
Me: Kona, Slowtwitch Kona.
Wife: Wait. is that why you upgraded the rental to a mini-van?? Long pause...Fine. Go early, and don't even look tired.
