Bad memes in response to the Baltimore riots
Quote | Reply
There have been a couple of disturbing memes floating around that, as usual, completely gloss over the problems that the protests/riots were supposedly over.

To be clear, the protests (the protest part, anyway) were specifically about police brutality. I'm certain that many felt that there was a racial component to it, but it was specifically a response to police brutality. IOW, the statement being made is that, "cops should not be beating the shit out of the local citizenry, even if arrested for a legitimate crime."

The memes floating around have centered around one of two points: 1) that crime will be worse without the cops and 2) that criminals are worse than cops.

Fantastic, but what the heck does this have to do with police brutality? Are they suggesting that we should deb lucky that we have police, and that...hey, you know, so you've got to break a few eggs to make an omelette.....but omelettes taste good, right?

Discuss.

That's one of them. There should be a picture of Jefferson rolling in his grave attached to it. =)

I googled Baltimore memes. Some are so bad (in a racist way) that even I won't post them. We're talking straight up overt racism, not that secret hidden invisible racism that only you seem to be able to see.

I am still confused over that whole thing because I was always under the impression that only white cops beat only black people.

My favourite part of that story is that they never put "Black cops beats black man" in the headline but if it was all white cops? Oh, you better believe that would be the headline.

Carry on...

Well unless its Obama playing the race card, or pictures of white people losing jobs to black people, then its not possible, because racism doesn't exist anymore.

But I actually wasn't talking about the racist ones. Mainly just the idea that we should accept police brutality because its better than just letting criminals do what they want.

On a side note, we're talking mainly about police brutality against petty criminals, not murderers.

Everyone knows that petty crimes are a gateway drug to violent crimes.

When the police give a petty criminal a good beat down, it saves them from advancing their criminal career and helps them stay out of jail.

The police are simply looking out for these misguided youths.

Are those who are simply accused of murder candidates for righteous police brutality, or are condoned abuses by police reserved for those who have prior convictions?

I think the point here is that no one really gives a shit if a child molester gets a beat down.

So you're saying we'd need to convict someone of a petty crime before the police could give them a good beat down?

Wow, I never thought I'd see the Goobdog come down against the cops like this.

At least some of the protesters who looted, rioted, burned buildings and overturned police cars in Ferguson, Missouri, last year were promised payment of up to $5,000 per month to join the protests.

However, when the Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE), the successor group to the now-bankrupt St. Louis branch of ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), stiffed the protesters, they launched a sit-in protest at the headquarters of MORE and created a Twitter page to demand their money, the Washington Times reports.

This is kinda funny because it has Dory in it, but I'm on the side of taking steps to reduce police brutality.

Not down on police... The was just goofing around a bit.

But I do think police would be better served with body cams as there is a balance needed and there are nut job police on major power trips.

Of course, on the flip side they should be able to shoot runners as long as it's recorded and car chases should be stopped with helicopter launched smart missiles.

Seriously if any other person posted this, it wouldn't be funny.

You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Towers. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying stripes of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway." T Durden
