Anyone thinking about racing the TTT next year? Registration opens today and I am trying to decide if I am up for round 2!

I wish I was ready to commit to that. It sounds like an awesome weekend, but I just can't say what the cards hold for my future of racing until after IMC. Of course, there is the distinct possibility that I will finish IMC and regret not signing up for some things for next year. Where is my psychic when I need her?

Chris - I see you are doing these still this year:
Aug: Great Buckeye 1/2 Iron
Sept: Toyota Challenge 1/2 Iron

I'm definitely going to be at Great Buckeye, and maybe the other. Maybe I'll meet you there.

Is it really just $200 for all 4 events? Damn, that's a HUGE bargain. Maybe in 2010 for me.

I'm trying to get in using my 2008 registration that I had to back out of. They told me I could use it in 2009, so I sent them an e-mail asking how I go about doing it. So, barring some changing of the rules over the last couple of months, then I'll be in for 2009 as well.

Could you do a short explanation of how the team thing works? I did read your race report from this year's race back after the race, but I just can't figure out when you work together, if they combine all times, etc. I couldn't find the info on how the teams work on their site, so if I'm just missing it please just direct me there :)

Race 1- super sprint. Individual race- combined times
Race 2- Individual Oly- times are combined
Race 3- Team Oly- Drafting allowed, time is the slowest member's chip time
Race 4- Team 1/2 IM- Drafting allowed- must finish together

So there ends up being 6 times that are added. Both member's first 2 races, then one time for the team races. It's a ton of fun!

I am almost ready to take the plunge for round 2. i do already have a room reserved at the lodge. The only thing holding me back is the long drive to and from the race. I hate to drive.

I entered as well. I looked at last year's race results and only saw one female in the grand masters category. Ha ha. Guess I should do okay.

Cat - the 'rumor' is that the team event is possibly more difficult than solo (I've heard more than one person say this). Basically team or solo, you do the entire course. It's not a relay. The increased difficulty comes from the fact that if you're the less-prepared team-member, you end up pushing yourself harder to keep up with your partner, hence the increased difficulty. Again, I've only done the race once as a solo, but a few folks I've talked to who have teamed said it was harder in some ways.

No matter what you decide to do, the weekend will kick your ass, and you'll love every minute of it!!

I think 2010 for me - as tempting as it is, reality - I am in my first season and this year Olympic is my longest distance - will do a HIM next summer, but not sure I could handle TTT yet....but I will get there!!!

I would LOVE to do it, but I don't think it's financially feasible. Maybe one year when I'm not doing an IM.

My husband is trying to convince me to do this. Where is the swim? How is the water in May?

The swim is in a small lake. It is cold as hell (56), but very calm and the TT start makes for NO contact.

Jump on it ASAP if you want to race. Only a couple dozen slots left.

Crap crap crap CRAP!!! I want to do this!!!

I'd need a lot of advice on training and such. I'll be in the middle of IMAZ training, the boys on the main forum said TTT is great IM training.

How hard physically will it be to do a half after a super sprint and 2 Olys??

AAHH!! What am I getting myself into? ;-)

It would be fun to meet some of the ST womens! We could get ST Womens shirts made!!

Ok, too much coffee today, but thinking about races like this gets me so excited...

I know! I just finished ChesapeakeMan and felt like I needed a cool challenge to get me through the winter, so this perfectly fit the bill.

I've never tried anything like this--maybe some of the TTT experts from Ohio can give us their tips for training/pacing?

I did TTT in 2007 in prep for IMLP. I just treated it like a long weekend of training. The first three races aren't too bad, but the half iron on Sunday is brutal. The bike is very hilly and you will find yourself going about an hour longer than your usual 1/2 IM pace (that was true for me as well as several of the fast guys I spoke to). Day 3 is all about just continuing to move forward. I think the run on the 1/2 IM gives you a preview into what the run feels like on an IM. You just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I didn't train for TTT since I was already training for LP. I also didn't taper for it. If you are IM training and your long ride is up around 3 to 4 hours, then you'll be fine from a training point of view.

It's true what they say about pacing. You really can't dig too deep on any of the shorter races or you will truly feel it on Sunday. I tried really hard to keep my exertion level even. Stayed in zone 3 most of the time, except for a few of the bigger hills were I had to work harder. There's lots of big hills on all of the bike courses, so you have to have good gearing so you can spin up the hills. I had 39/53 up front and 12/27 on the back.

It's a fantastic race and one that every long course athlete should consider.

2 years ago the water was awesome. I swam in my sleeveless wetsuit without an issue and there were a bunch of folks swimming sans wetsuit. I just think last year was a freakin cold winter everywhere. :)

I will be there for next year as well. :)
