Some day, when I have won the powerball lottery, I will spend some of my newfound cash on hiring Phil and Paul to do a voiceover for a video of me and my friends doing a sprint tri, or a 5k or something.

or you take what is already there and be creative:

youtube: Commuter Dreams
A Portland bike commuter and dedicated Tour De France fan gets up early to watch the TDF live, but as the stage ends he realizes he is going to be late to work. His exciting "race" to work is narrated by Tour de France TV commentators Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin.

A few of my favorites from years past.

1. "The riders are spread eagle all over the mountain"

2. "He's a beastie boy" - in reference to jens voigt

3. "Ullrich is saying, bridge to engine room, more power! But there isn't any"

On an unrelated note, I'm really enjoying when they show the inside of the HTC-Columbia car - the things the DS says to the guys over the radio never seem appropriate for the situation. A couple days ago it was (in a unique german? accent):

"Heeeeyy Boys, ok everybooody, time to start thinking about movin up"

Did anybody hear when PS and PL refered to the breakway/peloton as a fish on a hook with the peloton as the line and fishermen.

No particular quote but I so enjoy Paul Sherwin's interpretations of the information provided by the race organization on the region each stage is in. The stories about the castles, the history of the towns- the background info. I love that.

The Tour de France is a "tour" in some sense, that it is a braod sporting event that brings sport to the people and now, the people and their homes to us through the media. That connection is a wonderful insight.

Part of the grandeur of Le Tour is that it is never just one story... one plot. It is many stories on many levels being written and told consecutively.

Can't think of one off the top of my head, but he absolutely makes the t.v. coverage entertaining, it wouldn't be the same without him.

1. "The fox is in the hen house now"!

2. "Indurain seems to have found his second pair of legs"

3. "He's thrown a cat amongst the pigeons"

4. "He's got the bit between the teeth"

5. "The peloton is riding like scalded cats"

6. "This is a big beefy boy!"

7. "And again they are crossing swords at the front."

8. "The mountains again have produced the truth, and produced two great men"

9. "And Armstrong is coming down the finishing straight like a grand prix motorcar!"

10. "An absolute beast of a man"

11. "And the peleton has been stretched across the road like a long sausage"

12. "The weather is something of a damp squid"

13. "Look at them! They're like goldfish out there!"

14. "He's turned himself inside-out!"

15. "The race is no respecter of reputation, your only as good as now".

16. "They've been thrown a bone... and it's a meaty bone."

17. “He’s pedaling squares”

18. "Ullrich is saying, bridge to engine room, more power! But there isn't any"

19. "And Lance Armstrong looks back to ask Ullirich 'Well, are you coming with me?'...And the answer is NOT..."

20. "And the riders of the Tour are struggling...well, not struggling..."

21. "shut your eyes, shut your mind to the pain".

22. “His suitcase of courage is empty”

23. “Roche is really digging deep in his man-purse of testicular fortitude!”

24. "He's turning the pedals in anger!"

25. “He’s Dancing on the pedals in the Polka Dot Jersey"

Love the quotes.

Only wish these guys wouldn't say "...I have to say." Perhaps it's the UK answer to the Canadian 'eh', or the US 'umm'.

I can't believe noone's mentioned it yet, as it's such a classic line during the mtn stages (unless it Paul): "He's popped."
