From today's stage when Lance was trying to bridge the gap on the cobbles :
"Here is Lance Armstrong, he looks like a coal miner from the forest of Arenberg, totally black in the face."
Love the announcing by the great Phil Liggett

During Stage 3 he was talking about some Italian rider that had wrecked and said "Italians never do well at the Tour de France. Perhaps it's because they don't serve enough spaghetti."

hahah this one was great...also from that youtube video that was posted....

"roche is either mad or full of confidence" ---i'm going to make this my signature line

and
"further up the moutain it was a good time to protest about the price of lamb this year"

"where the drama of the tour will reach a crescendo"

from today's broadcast about stage in the versus pre race show

PS" this stage is going to be a Humdinger"
BR "hahaha, a lolapalooza, a peach a dizzy, a wowzer" ------the other commentators just stared at him.

also....Bob roll comment about Craih Hummer pick of juan antonio flecha ""hehehe, it will not be the arrow salute"

and then PS"im going to through out Bob's book of logic and pick LA""
BR "ya i was thinking like...wow"

That one is so famous because of the association with the famous "Look" but you missed a bit out, it should read:

"And Lance Armstrong looks back to ask Ullirich 'Well, are you coming, OR NOT?'...And the answer is NOT..."

Great thread! To puase briefly... what was he talking about with the motors in the bikes on the cobbles and having to get replacement bikes from another team? What kinda motor , that's helpful, could actually be hidden in a bike? And, didnt Contador get a replacement bike from his own team on the cobbles?

Now, back to Liggett quotes...

Damn, that's a cold ass honkey.

As I briefly understood it: riders were only allowed to swap out their bikes for other official team bikes to thwart any possibility of them getting onto an illegal bike midway through the stage (e.g. a bike with a tiny motor hidden inside the seat tube). It sounds stupid, I know. Things I never quite understood:

1) have all the "official" team bikes been previously checked by the tour officials to make sure they're legal?
2) where the hell else are they going to get bikes from if not from their team car? Some dude on the side of the road with a huffy?
3) how the hell did this stupid story about tiny motors inside bikes grow legs to the point that it's being addressed at the TdF?

PL talking about Pavel Tonkov on D'Huez...
"And all of the sudden his legs have gone to rubber!"

Both PL and PS commentating on lance's "conquest" on the Sestriere stage in '99...they were so excited and shocked (as was everyone) at Armstrong's climbing form.

"He was certainly the strong man today!" is one that Phil has dropped a few times, "dancing on the pedals" and "pedals turned in anger" are always good as well. One favorite of mine was in '03 when Lance, Tyler, Jan and Iban Mayo kept trading places going up Alpe d'Huez - "And now we've got a big fight on our hands!". Phil is awesome.

2). Yes kind of. But for the rule most teams would have had a staffer at each cobbled section with a team bike in case the car was too far away to help out.
3). I'm convinced this is going to turn out to be a brilliant piece of guerilla marketing by the firm that makes them. The whole debate is ridiculous and the fact it was allowed to have an effect on the TdF is embarassing. I'm as cynical as the next guy bur come on.

I've got to admit that the French scenery porn really does add to my enjoyment of the race, and I dig all the tidbits that P&P get supplied by local French tourism boards.
