Some people would disagree.... paging CaptainCanada.

Sure, the harley crew is generally fat but the racers are in really damned good shape. Hell, Dani Pedrosa is smaller than Joaquim Rodriguez.

And watch out for them on the run!

Maybe he should be allowed to compete. It does have two wheels. He just can't use the motor. Remove the plugs and he can push it with his feet like a kiddie car

I think it'd be a shame if you had to start changing all the 'bikes' to 'bicycles' or 'pedal cycles' but maybe you could consider adding some small print.

"All admittance onto the race course is at the discretion of the race marshals. Absolutely no abuse of race marshals will be tolerated, offenders will be ejected from the race course without refund. All bikes must be roadworthy with good brakes and conform to USAT rules, riders must wear a CPSC certified helmet. Absolutely no competing on motorcycles - that'd be stupid"

"Non-motorized" cycle or bicycle.

At our race we had an athlete run 2 laps of the run course and then complain that he was misdirected. He demanded that we cut his run time in half and award him first place in his division. I listened to him patiently and then explained that it is his responsibility to know the course, that he was the only person in the race who ran an extra lap even though the finish line is in clear view and less than 100 yards from where he started his second lap. When he demanded his money back I said, "This conversation is over" and went back to what I was doing.

This. Do not engage. He isn't worth your time getting upset. Don't worry about running into him and let him save you should you need it. Are you really going to let him get to you so badly? Let it roll off you. Life is too short to spend your time in anger at this guy. Put it in a bubble and blow it away. I probably would have laughed in the guys face, taken the attitude of "don't waste my time" and "I don't have time for you" and walked away from him once I was certain he was not going to bother the course. Just don't engage.

i am definitely using the "don't waste my time". and i think i told him if he wanted to use his motorcycle, he could start his own event and do whatever the fuck he wanted. i am actually good about dealing with lots of characters here on St. john. I would say most of the people who live here are hiding from something, so there is an excess of strange and odd ball people. People who may have a hard time fitting in anywhere else. thanks for you input.

Ok timberdick, what am I missing? Your post clearly suggests you are a female. What's with you screen name? Just asking.

This was a first for me. we have a small race on st. John, about 80 athletes when you count relays, triathletes and aquathoners. i had a guy on a motorcycle show up thinking he was going to compete on his motorcycle. i tried to tell him this was a triathlon and he needed a bike. and he just kept saying this is his bike. after about 10 min.s, i had to call a bigger gun in to deal with this. motorcycle man seems to have a problem with females in charge. i had to call in a male to deal with him. He finally left, but came back to do the aquathon. i emailed this prick later, to ask if he seriously thought he could do the race on his motorcycle. and he said the flyer describing the race was not clear about the bike. i have been nice up to a point. (no name calling) trying to educate this guy about triathlon. stating insurance alone does not cover a motorcycle. the permit from the national park does not allow motorcycles in the races, and just general satety to the real bikers? after a few emails but a forth, he told me, i should look up the definition for a bike. Now i am mad. So, for next year, does anyone have any ideas on how i can word the flyer to make it clear what a bike is? Or same cleaver wording about no motorcycles. It was probably a mistake for me to engage this prick, but i was so shocked by his balls. and unfortunately, he placed 5th in the aquathon. This is a small island, and i am sure i will run into him.. i think he actually is a life guard for the park. i think i would rather drown then have this dick save me. thanks for any input on this strange issue.

Tell him he can use any bike he likes (except recumbants of course), but he's not allowed to turn on the motor.

Basic tri rules say you must follow the rules of the road. So just make sure the bike course goes along a "no motorized vehicles" trail as most seem to now. He'd have to obey, along with all posted speed limits. Then just make sure that in order to "follow the course" he'd have to drive a really freakin long way around to meet back up with the cyclists. Then put in a few really tight u-turns and you're all set.

If he had been competing at IMoo last weekend he would have had to take John Nolen drive instead of the bike course that goes under then around the back of the Energy Centre. Eventually he'd have hit traffic and lost his advantage :D

IMC would have been pretty tough too, some of those sections on 3a were crazy congested.

There are a few sections in the TdF where the bikes can descend the mountain sections faster than the motorcycles.

I'm still not sure what the big deal is letting the poor guy be included, he just wanted his $150 t-shirt. It's not like he's taking someone's Kona slot.
