does carbon fibre get old?
Hi
I am looking at buying a pair of 2001 HED carbon trispokes. Only 100km on them.

Does anyone know if carbon fibre get old?

Does it breakdown and become weak? I'm only 140lbs.

And will a Shimano hub with a 9-speed also fit a 10-speed cassette?

Would I have any problems with fit of these on a Cervelo p2C?

Thanks

Someone asked earlier about Carbon Frame longevity. Here is the thread, and the Velonews article that was quoted is also good:

Though you are asking about wheels. The carbon fibre itself does not breakdown on its own. You should try writing to HED and asking them, since they will know specific measurements, rim width, etc.

10 cog-set speed fits a 9-speed hub.

Are you missing a few zeros there?

Assuming they weren't crashed or run through a huge pothole they should just be broken in. I still ride my old specialized trispokes from the early 1990s.

Thanks for that
No. No zeros missing. They were used for a couple of olympics

I'm about your weight, ride an early 90's spesh Trispoke (tubular). It's built like a tank and as others have said, unless you crash or damage it carbon it will be structurally sound for many, many years.
