San Diego triathlons - which one?
We are planning a trip to San Diego and making it a race trip. So, all you guys in San Diego, which one do I do? Looking for something very close or in San Diego. Ocean swim would be cool but not needed. Any race between mid April thru July would be fine. Sprint to Oly distance. The sprint bike needs to be at least 12 miles in length, shorter then that would suck : )

So, have at it....which one?

Carlsbad Tri.
Usually in mid-July. Nice enough course (minus the smoke stack). I'm not a local, but I planned my family visits to coincide with that and the Camp Pendleton (RIP).

I would recommend the SD international or the carlsbad sprint. The international is actually short for an international distance and the swim is the the harbor. Cool bike ride and run along the bay. Carlsbad has an ocean swim, very fast bike course, and run along the beach. Take your pick.

as mentioned already, the San Diego International or the Carlsbad Triathlon would be great choices.

San Diego International is on June 28th, 1km harbor swim, 30km bike up to Pt. Loma and back with a double loop back up to Pt. Loma. 10km run, point to point around the San Diego harbor. Keep an eye on registration, this race does sell out and is 42% full already. http://www.kozenterprises.com/...thlons/interdf84.htm

Carlsbad Triathlon is on July 12th and is a 1km ocean swim, 25km bike and 5km run. Both the bike and run are right along the Pacific on Hwy 101 with the road shut down for the race. I love this race as the transition is a half mile from my house. THis race sells out some years, I don't believe it did last year though. http://www.carlsbadca.gov/...eation/triathl1.html

Neither race is USAT sanctioned, but both are great races.

SDIT is a great race if you have never been to San Diego, Solana Beach isn't too bad, there is a pretty steep hill you have to run up after transition. But the most fun are the Camp Pendleton Races.

I also highly recommend San Diego International. It is a great race. I have done both it and Carlsbad and if I had to choose one it would DEFINITELY be SDIT. Longer race, better venue, better pre-race expo and WAY better post race food, awards, expo, and even live music. Just a better race, and longer too, so more bang for your $

camp Pendleton sprint. 18 mile bike, 500 meter ocean swim, 5k run( a slight kicker at the beginning)

bike is rolling
