Based on how the 3 of them look, Ellis has to be feeling good about her chances.

Surprised Steffen didn't get away from them when she went by them. Does she think she can outrun Ellis?

Must have taken a bit out of the tank to make those 4 minutes back after the penalty.

Hopefully he'll have a better last 1/3 on the bike and marathon, but matching the fastest splits right now is still going to leave him in a big hole to pick up even a top 10 finish.

marino has a 5 minute lead. is anyone a 5-minute-faster runner? Jacobs?

Taking 5 minutes out of this group of athletes may affect VanHonker's ability to run 2:46.

Historically yes (jacobs), but is Jacobs over biking? Is Mariano over biking, or going easy heading in to T2. Its a tough race to handicap because the winner will almost certainly be a new Kona winner.

it's a loooong race. i've seen macca, lothar, welchie, come off the bike in 25th or 30th and run into the top 3. rapp isn't going to do that, but, i absolutely think top-10 is achievable. whomever rapp puts 3 or 4 minutes on over this 15-mile segment is going to lose another 5 or 6 minutes to him in the last 22 miles. there will be at least a half-dozen riders in front of him right now that will fall into that category. however, this assumes he rides and runs as he is capable, which is not at all certain when you're in kona.

He is a top 10er, no doubt. All about how much he can hurt for it. You never know who will survive that second half.

i predict he'll ride about 37:30 in this 15-mile segment. that keeps him in the hunt. if he rides over 38 minutes, that's a bad sign. if he rides in the 36s at all, then he's on a tear.

Had to love leanda's interview, saying basically that chrissie was scared, and was beatable this year..Well if you count the top 15 men, then yes she was beatable, but i do not see anyone in the womens field that could have challenged a healthy chrissie..

Good to see his pro segment just air, with the plug for WBR. Haven't seen splits, but as someone else said in another thread, he's more of a back half racer.

They have a hard time challenging a hurt, mangled chrissie.
