Ya I kinda only like WTC and ITU events... And the bike course for the frogs is pretty boring! Hard to decide.
Only reason I'm considering frogs is because it's 10 min drive.

Both races are tough, but very well organized.
SuperFrog is super low key local race feel. Be prepared for big surf on the swim. This race is an open water swimmers dream race (as are almost all San Diego area races). The bike is boring but will have a tail wind one way and a head wind possibly both ways (not sure how, but it happens on the strand). The run. Well... It's on the beach to say the least, and not all in the hardpack sand. If this isn't one of the hardest runs in the sport, I don't know what at this distance is harder. I'd do this race again in a heartbeat.
Lake Stevens is also a low key race with a fast swim. The bike course is tough as mentioned above, and each time I've raced there it has been a wet road from either rain or mist. That made for interesting conditions with all of the turns. Still an awesome course. The run course isn't "hilly" per se, but it's not flat by any means. Another fast course. This race has less than 1000 athletes each year (I think) and yet they still put on a great race! Be aware that there aren't a lot of places to stay within 15 miles of the race, but plenty of hotels are around there.
Just my thoughts. Can't go wrong on those two. You'll save $$$ racing SF.
