ST: Xmas-New Years Virtual Training Camp
It appears there have been a few threads kicking around about people limiting weight gain, especially during the holidays. There are also many already starting prep for early season racing.

This past weekend we had a short virtual camp to coax one another on to some base mileage. Seems like there are lots of guys/gals doing moderate to big volume, so let's do this thing again from Xmas Eve till Jan 2.

The goal is to do as many hours of training as possible. Speed and intensity are irrlevant. The goal is to just put in some aerobic miles. The side benefit is that you burn off all that chocolate, alcohol and good food.

I have devised a system that is independent of speed, just hours/minutes trained, and I have converted things into "equivalent running minutes, where you get 1 point per minute of running"

This is how it works
  1. running, swim, weights = 60 points per hour
  2. XC skiing = 40 points per hour
  3. cycling = 30 points per hour

The Camp starts on Dec 24th, and goes through to Jan 2nd. My goal is to average 90 points per day (some days more, some days less), so in 10 days, I'd like to get to 900 pts. If I can get to 1000, then that would be a bonus.

Who else is in?

If you trek up each mountain, you can use total elapsed time. If you take the lift then zero.

I'm in. I'm only running, but what the hell ;-) I might get up to the trails for some XC if I'm lucky... (prays to gods).

I'm in, however dev, i'm starting a swim training camp in montreal on the 27th running through to the 5th of january, and it's gonna be like 2:30 hrs a practice, and also that doesn't include my daily trips to the gym. So don't be surprised when my points are way up high.

Zero?!, what the.......

10 pts/hour sounds fair as we do quite a bit of off-piste hiking also.

Ted, yes, the point system is really favourable for swimmers, and to some extent penalizes XC skiing. I did not want anyone get the impression that I was rigging the system so that I can get on the podium easily.

You should rack up 150 pts per day. What's your target ???...oh yeah, make the gym time count. I don't want to see posts about 120 min of gym time of which 60 minutes are actually spent chatting up hotties while flexing all your cosmetic bulk !!!

Since I have taken speed out of the equation, there is only an overall podium. No concession for clydesdale, age groups or gender. It is just the top three who log the most "equivalent running minutes"

Kittycat, weights/gym time (less gym biking which falls under biking) counts for 60 pts per hour, and for Ted McGregor we divide his gym points by two since half that time is chatting up hotties.

Awww can't it start today? I just swam 10,000 yds... 3hours, that'd get me 180pts!

I'm in.

it's a new gym so they have virtually no clients, and all the women i've seen are out of shape chatters who sit on the bikes and walk on the treadmills for like 20 minutes before they get tired and go home.
No chatting cause there are no hotties. Besides i'm commited now, swimming biking and running, didn't you read my post about training over girls?

Fine.

I'm on Christmas break from Dec 23 - Jan 16. I'm planning to get some long workouts in the pool and hopefully will be able to get a few short runs in after Jan 9.

I'll shoot for 700 pts for the Virtual Training Camp days.

[reply]The Camp starts on Dec 24th, and goes through to Jan 2nd.[/reply]

This is always my easy week. For me it is much easier to train if I have a fix work schedule than if I have holiday. And because I want to spend this week with my family I plan it as a easy week.

I hope to join you in another virtual camp.

I'll get in on this. Christmas day run, Boxing day 10-miler race, still putting in good time on the trainer. Can't day I will get 900+ points.

Game on...and good timing, right after Festivus!
