De nada, and thanks for asking. Seriously.

We're starting up a new wrenching column on the site in the near future, and one of the things we'd like to highlight is the huge body of tribal knowledge that people who spend way too much time working on bikes/work on bikes for a living take for granted. Case in point, I simply dropped that "daisy chain two rubber bands together" in an article without even thinking that maybe I should explain how to do so!

Serfas make a variety of lights that come with a mount that works exceptionally well on aero, including Cervelo seatposts. I’ve tried many different rear lights, and think their patented mount is excellent.

I use the Vulcan 350 light. Great brightness options, lightweight, and long battery. You can see the aero mount in the pictures below.

I use this mount with the light shown on my Cervelo aero post and I don't have a problem with it moving around. It's easy to swap the light over to my other bike with the round mount. The light has a flash mode and a constant on, so not many options, but it does what it's supposed to. Runs on 2 AAA batteries that seem to last a long time. YMMV

forgot to mention, it has angle adjustment if you need to tilt up or down.

I've got a lyzene light like that and have issues with the light twisting to the side. The rubber bit that hugs the seat post needs more depth to it.

Interesting. What kind of seatpost are you putting it on? I tried it on 4 different types and didn't experience that...

A 2012 Cervelo P2. The style with the two big holes for the saddle clamp. To be clear, it's not the exact same light as what you showed. Getting around the deep seatpost requires quite a bit of tension on the band of my light. A longer band would probably help. It works really well on my wife's bike (a giant avail), with a much shallower "D" shaped seat post.

My SC post measured about 60mm. I can try it on my friends p5 if that’s the same seat post.

Sure, please do, if you have the time.

I have a 2011 P3 (not my bike, but just like this), and I think the original P5 uses the same seatpost cross-section.

Perfect time for an excuse to get the Garmin Varia - which comes with enough bands to daisy chain around the Cervelo seatpost as mentioned above!

Gotcha. Yeah, definitely not the same light. The seatpost in the picture is the same as the one you have, and no such problems. Too much tension on the band sounds like it may well be the problem...

Yeah, I think the profile of the mount section is a little different than the one I tested... but can't say for sure, not having tested it!

Definitely try subbing out the stock rubber band for a couple of girth-hitched "standard" rubber O-rings, though. Please let us know if/how that works! We've got a dedicated thread where we're trying to aggregate knowledge on stuff like this, and this is the kind of thing that would be nice to get on there!

The SC one will not fit, but I think the Madone one will. Might be a bit off but fit at the bottom of the seatpost of my friends p5.

I use this $4 one: https://www.ebay.com/...p2057872.m2749.l2649

15 lumens (so fine for dawn/dusk, but not bright enough for daylight)
USB rechargable

Easily fits my Shiv's aero post.

Good to know, but if you go to trekbikes on the interweb, can you give a link to that one? I can only see the two speed concept versions there.

Thanks, but will that fit an aero post? The strap looks awfully short ...

Yes. Fits my wifes 2018 Cervelo S5 post nicely. I think I may have gotten the picture to finally upload. We have 4 in total. Love the ease of mounting and that some can be solid and some can be blinking. Long battery life too on CR 2032.

Great, but can you possibly measure the depth and width of that post?

Because the seatpost on the gen2 carbon P3 is I think considerably deeper than that one. I think.

52mm x 19mm.

I'd estimate the straps would be safe out to about 60mm x 25mm

Well, then that's a no go.

I retract my 60mm x 25mm statement.

Just tested. Wedged my finger between strap and front surface of seatpost. Was 66mm x 21mm. (the width is a non-issue)

They'll work. The straps are surprisingly stretchy.

Good to know.

How steady (in terms of mounting stability) is the light mount on the back of your aero post?

100% steady. Purchased a pair. Had for 6 months. Purchased another pair. Would purchase again.

Just don't forget to put a tape in between the seat post and the plastic bracket that holds the light.. I made that mistake and now my carbon seatpost have visible scratches.
