New GP4000S II from Conti?
Herbert just posted a pic of an apparent "Grand Prix 4000S II" from Eurobike: http://www.slowtwitch.com/...ke_-_Day_1_3846.html

I wonder what they changed? (...and hopefully didn't make things "worse", if you know what I mean ;-)

Does this mean we should stock up on the originals, just in case?

Take a short break from ST and read my blog:

Dunno...they got a good thing going with the current 4000S. It's fairly durable, they've done a great job on lowering the Crr, and its "accidental excellence" in the aero department is tough to beat. I'm just hoping they didn't screw anything up trying to make things "better" ;-)

In other words, "If it ain't broke...don't fix it!"

If it doesn't wear out quick and doesn't puncture often ....... they might get more sales by fixing that "problem" ;-)

These things are my daily drivers and I've found them to be pretty durable. I even take them on dirt roads. Only time I've flatted was a pinch flat that would happen to any clincher. The problem with making them tougher is that usually results in really crappy Crr.

I'll bet that pinch flat wouldn't have happened to a clincher with a latex tube inside it ;-) (assuming you weren't running latex, that is)

Any updates on the secret, fast rolling tubless?

Uh oh.... like running shoe makers releasing an updated model of a great shoe? Time to stock up on the old one?

I run 4000S. Great tire. I don't have as many baby cuts as I was getting with Michelin service course. Don't know about CRR or aero. Haven't tested it myself, but I trust others who have.

Any chance you can find out what sizes they'll be making? 20C in the works to replace the Supersonic?

They already make a 20C GP4000 with "Black Chili" compound...they just don't call it an "S" for some reason...

You may be right as I had a slow leak in the front, but the rear went down immediately. They were some big rocks that washed across the road from all the rain we've had here. I wasn't paying attention when I hit them which was completely my fault. That being said, I don't use latex on my everyday wheels but do have them in all of my race wheels.

The only times I've pinch flatted in the last 5 years or so have been when I was running GP4000S with butyl tubes one a wide rimmed wheel (hit an unseen pavement edge...dang ride-mates didn't point it out!)

I don't think I've ever pinch-flatted a tire with a latex tube...and I've hit LOTS of stuff that I was worried would have done so...

Have you tested it? The Supersonic is been my go-to for narrow rims, but that might change if the GP4000 had an edge..

Yes, and it basically rolls the same as the old Bontrager AW19...so yeah, I'd probably stick with a SS as well...

Good to know! I'm running HED belgiums as my training wheels. Maybe I'll throw the latex. I'll admit part of why I haven't is due to not wanting to pump up my tires every time I ride. I'll probably get some 25's for the winter and put latex in them so I can do more dirt road riding.

Color on the bead strip a new width, 28. It's my understanding that other then the color options on the bead strip the tire is unchanged.

i have had 4 or 5, 4000 tires, some a while back so not all S's. all but one died the same way, side wall cut well before its time. the one that did not lasted way longer than most of my other tires.

one S from this year suffered teh sidewall cut as well. not bad enough to kill teh tire entirely, but enough that i retired it to winter trainer use. already had 2000 miles on it though, so not bad, just not great.

Interesting...I've heard tales of Conti tires suffering sidewall cuts going back many years, but I don't think I've EVER had that happen to one. Go figure...

When you say "bead strip"...do you mean the sidewalls?

Changing the material there could have an effect on Crr.
