It isn't his max HR if it's for a 10 min interval on the bike, far from it IMO.
. And it wouldn't be yours either. This is aerobic work.
The avg. watts is impressive though.

Louis :)

On the bike, I regularly see upper 160s to low 170s. In a bike race I'll see mid 180s. I'm in my early 60s.

I'll see mid 150's only sometimes, 57 years old. I have a stress test and echo next week, hopefully all is good.

Just over 200 back when I rowed in college, but that was a long time ago.

I'm 31 now (and started cycling 3 years ago) I think the max i've seen is 191 (on a hill interval)

FVC is 7.2L fwiw (just because I know it ;))

Did a 5k run last week and averaged 190. I've maxed at around 210.

My easy pace is mid 155-165. Usually racing in 170s.

7 w/kg for 10 mins is pretty good.

i hear there is some kind of chart or something that would help put that in context.

His numbers are completely debased from reality i can't take him seriously. That is close to 7 w/kg for 10 minutes which would put him in with a handful of world tour pro's. I don't know if he simply lies about power or has no clue how to calibrate/zero offset his trainer/PM's.

I'm age 29 and hit 197 bpm during a max hr test on a track running slower than Kipchoge's marathon pace...

I hit 200 yesterday during a zwift race while trying to track a guy down during the last quarter mile. Was definitely pretty high on the RPE scale.

I have often wondered about the numbers he throws out there. His race performance do not come close to what he does in training - even his swimming.

There are a couple world tour pros who are open with their power numbers. These are the absolute best of the best and 500w for 10 minutes is exceptional. He is getting out ridden by wurf who was a good cyclist but not exceptional by world tour standards. Even wurf called him out on his numbers.

I have #'s from a sprint

Swim: 145bpm (average)
Bike: 170 with 190 peak
Run: Started 150 to 175 then built to finish w/a 212 peak in the chute

58 y/o

I am concerned a bit these days with doing sudden, full output effort either on the bike or running up hills early in the am. Get a bit of a funny feeling under the sternum area - which could be my mid back as I ventilate @ full volume. idk

,, no other symptoms

I'm always a bit concerned about my heartrate being high, partly because heartattacks are in the family.

I'm 35 years old and weigh between 72 and 78 kilo (depending on on/off-season and lazyness). I easily get my heartrate above 200. Last weekend I did a 15km race (running) and hit 210 with an avg of 196.

I checked my heartrate multiple times with different watches and always with a breastband (Garmin tri combined with Forerunner 920XT, Garmin 210 with old band and polar cycling with polar band).

On easy runs (like yesterday, 10km @ 5:01min/km) I still average 165.

Something to worry about?

Louis :)

If I push my max for 10mn (clearly not 500w), I'm 10 BPM below my registered max (at the same period of time)

7w/kg is pretty much top of the pro peloton for VO2Max, indeed, from public data of Rohan Dennis, Froome, and some others top Grand Tour and TT players (generally TT players lower than GT players).

VO2Max considered as being more 5mn capacity than 10mn, but there is variances in measurement process (depending on the lab), leading to more than 5% differences in my own case, may be more in other cases.

Could have some PM calibration variance.

Not sure of LS real "efficient weight".

But I will not be surprised if Lionel, top triathlete, cycling being his best sport, had PMA not far from 7w/kg, and slightly above 500.

510w PMA, for 74kg, is 6.9w/kg.

Last 3 years the highest I hit was 199 at the end of steep climb on the bike. Until this summer, then I hit 205 at the end of a sprint tri, and a month later 203 at the end of a half marathon.

I’ve seen 192 before.

At 183 out of 190ish for over 6 minutes at end of a 20min test. Was into 180s for at least half.

185, step test

Comparison, 260w hour at 160:

Numbers aren’t that big, but it hurts nonetheless going deep for that long.

heart rate is so individual its a poor metric to try and compare between people...

I have lost 145 lbs and my all out 5k heart rate never broke 170 given it was only a 20 min 5k but still. I have almost never broken 160 on the bike 314 FTP etc.

Some are built like diesel engines. Some are built like high revving Honda engines. Max heart rates are pretty much individualized and don't mean squat. I'm over 50yo and I can hit low 190's during VO2 max intervals.

Could not agree more. I have a max in the low 200’s but can hold my HR in the 170-180’s for a whole 70.3. HR is 100% individualized and means nothing unless compared to yourself
