Daniela Ryf has been running a lot in high altitude, completely ripped and she’s in best shape ever. She’s going to be untouchable today. Fast runner Anne Haug is possibly second and third place will be up for grab for the rest.

Ryf is looking good but rumours about her having a niggle might mean a 2nd half of run unravel.

Hard to know what shape Haug is in, been very quiet which makes prediction difficult.

I hope Lucy has a belter but I think top 5 will be a good result considering how much she missed. I think the back end of the marathon will be a bit much for her. I hope she gets top 3 but the 2 races she has done this season have been relatively short.

Lauren Brandon is leading the second group. Laura Phillip is in the pack well back.
She must be really popular in the Mid-West, I see lots of Let's Go Brandon flags on trucks around here.

I would say 2+ minutes slow course from a neutral one. Which makes the gaps to Ryf that much bigger too, so good for her.

We’ll see how the bike leg goes. But so far, really liking the coverage. To echo others, more Rinny please!

They should've gotten Alistair to commentate.

More like 7 minutes down for Ryf, and a pretty big gap to the 2nd group too. She has made it very hard on herself setting up this ride today, and letting others be with her that should have been 3 minutes in the rears to start the bike.

They should keep the camera and mic on Rinny and Mark for as long as possible. Like, for the next 7 hours or so.

Yeah this is going to be exciting. And Tissot agree on the coverage. The multicam stuff on Ironman.com is incredible. And can't get enough of Rinny on the mic.

I get one extra cam too, my hotel is close enough to get woken up by the cannon this AM. Got to watch it go down from my balcony!

Too old to go pro but doing it anyway

For anyone who isn’t already - watch the coverage via ironmannow.com rather than via Facebook. 5 different cameras plus live leaderboard showing average pace and gap. Really good coverage so far.

I think she gave herself a bit of heat stress with that acceleration.

Lucy is ending up with the best possible scenario. She is going to get here off the front bike group of 5, and she will have made those other 4 work much harder than if she had just let them sit on her from the gun. Like a boxer, this is a body blow to Laura and the others, as they would have not done a single pull if they had sat on her.

And looks like it will be a great gap to the uberbikers/runners, so they could conceivably be out there for many, many hours, and perhaps just a Danny will come up solo. That is the best case for Lucy for sure..

Attacking from the gun never works. Violates the “attack as late as possible, but just before everyone else” rule. But if LCB backed off for tactical reasons, then good. Hope she can sit on Ryf’s wheel for the rest of the race.
