Do we know who's in that group of 4? Oliveira? Chura? Brandon?

Do the announcers not have the swim wave schedule? Seems they do not which age groups are going in each wave.

The gap now... 20min in... Lucy is out front by ~30m to a group of 4 and then another ~100m back is the 3rd chase pack, many women and the chatter is that Ryf and Haug are in that 3rd group.

That chase pack altough losing Lucy's feet, doesn't seem to be losing distance on her... it seems stable.

Lauren Brandon (with 3 on her feet) is holding this minor gap to Lucy

The eyeball test looks like Lauren has actually pulled back a bit of that gap.

SO Lucy has settled into a pace, and their are 4 chasers in a distinct group now, But they are not that far back, and I be Laura now wished she would have just got on Lucy's feet. She is working about the same now as she would have on the feet of Lucy, only losing a second here and there now. Not a huge gap, so I expect those 4 will ride up to Lucy quite quickly.
Maybe Lucy is also easing up to do what I thought in the first place, just a weird way to go about it

I agree with the other user above, it seems Brandon is actually closing in on Lucy.

yeah - is it worth it for lucy to try to stretch it out? or it there some use in trying to bring it home as a group of 5?
fenella's a decent rider but i'm not sure the other girls would be super-useful to lucy on the bike . . .

I know Lucy likes to race at the front, but there's enough fire power in that group to do some real damage and share some pulls for at least the first hour or two.
Re: Kona Women's Race-Day Thread [iron_mike]

Lucy is ending up with the best possible scenario. She is going to get here off the front bike group of 5, and she will have made those other 4 work much harder than if she had just let them sit on her from the gun. Like a boxer, this is a body blow to Laura and the others, as they would have not done a single pull if they had sat on her.
And looks like it will be a great gap to the uberbikers/runners, so they could conceivably be out there for many, many hours, and perhaps just a Danny will come up solo. That is the best case for Lucy for sure..

Lauren Brandon is leading the second group. Laura Phillip is in the pack well back.

This is shaping up for a really tough ride for Ryf. She is going to be almost 6 minutes back, and there is a strong group of 7 between her and the lead to catch first. I have a feeling that some of those 7 in the chase will get to the front before Ryf can bridge, so setting up for a super tactical ride for those trying to beat her.

Is there a financial incentive for being the leader out of the swim or for setting a swim record?
I suppose an athlete could have that as an incentive in their endorsement deals and we wouldn't necessarily know about it.

It's going to be 50+ minutes for Lucy. So that means Ryf's group is going to be close to the hour?

The current is pulling out pretty hard. The time coming back in is going to be much slower. That's the normal flow, but seems pretty strong today.

There's no prime from the race but I'm sure you're right about sponsor contract bump
