Maybe more likely he knew he was going to bail so why not go out with a killer swim workout.

Sure, he knew he was going to bail out, had a fever last night but wanted to make sure he got a killer workout first... then to make his trip worthwhile he biked 50 miles up the Island. Makes sense I guess?

agreed. noticed during 70.3 that he's very dynamic generally - sitting up, looking around, surging ... restless.

as the grip used to say, "to win kona you need supreme confidence or supreme calm..."

Well, what does The Grip know about winning Kona?

Seriously though, top-5 all time nickname there.

maybe they are riding tight and don't want to show it!!!!! Some of those guys in that group are pulling a lange.

Matt Russel is on par.

also they will have to show it soon. they will catch soon.

Technique will always last longer then energy production. Improve biomechanics, improve performance.

Matt Russell is really having himself a ride!

Also impressive to see Tim Odonnell racing so well. Hopefully his recent foot injury doesn't hold him back on the run.

This is gonna be an amazing marathon. Are we looking at another Ironwar with Brownlee and Frodeno? I gotta think that right now those guys are the favorites, although this is Ali's first Kona.

He was probaly ready to drop off earlier and likely couldn't get a spot before then, etc. IE that may have been the *easiest* spot to bail and get picked up easiest.

Forget the year, but TO did this exact thing at this exact spot. But back then he rode like a cat 5 rider, looking around, surging in and out, it was painful to watch. hope he has learned from that old video..

looked like he came to a stop and the motor bike was there???

But even if he takes a break and grabs onto wurf or has a penalty he can run very well.

Ryf 8:30 back and continuing to lose time the entire bike (and swim) so far to Lucy. She will need a killer run to win this one. She's also doesn't have any female pros close to her. She won't take the win this year.
