So I'm in the market for a new bike, (probably a trek or cervelo) and I cannot seem to find color options on either of the manufacturers websites. (except for project one bikes)
Do manufacturers only like red, white, and black these days, or am I just not opening my eyes?
Red, black, and white consistently outperform other colors when coupled with another option. That said you'll see some team issue models deviate from that pattern and the "blackout" look is also gaining popularity as the high end hue.
For 2012 we're trying some new colors that deviate from our standard matte black with white decal. The first 2012 bike we showed was our new flagship 'cross bike which is matte carbon with neon chartreuse and silver decals. As another poster pointed out, we've tried bringing green and orange into some higher volume models. It seems however that these colors often have a love-or-hate reaction. Tom Demerly recently reported in his TriSports U review that our F4 looks better without the orange accented colors, I doubt we'd get any complaints from a black and white bike using black tires. Less flash? yes. Fewer sales? no.
We'll keep trying, we'll launch the 2012 website right around 9/1 along with many others. I think you might see some Leopard Treks, Garmin Cervelos, and Rabobank's Giants sporting something other than RB&W.
